Snyder. William Snyder died at his home near Bloomingdale, Ont., on Sunday evening, Nov. 21, 1937, aged 88 y. 2 m. 30 d. He was a son of the late Jacob S. and Magdalena Snyder, and was born on the Snyder homestead in Waterloo Co., Ont., Aug. 22, 1849. He farmed in the neighborhood of his birthplace all his life until old age prevented him from going to the fields. He was united in marriage to Susannah Snyder. This union was blessed with 5 sons and 2 daughters. He leaves his wife, 3 sons, and 2 daughters (Clayton at home, Ivan of Breslau, Ferman of Kitchener, Mrs. Arthur Hockborn and Mrs. Ivan Cressman of Bloomingdale). He is also survived by 2 brothers, 2 sisters, 22 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. About 12 years ago he united with the Mennonite Church and remained faithful until he was called yonder. Funeral services were conducted by the brethren, C. F. Derstine and H. W. Stevanus.

It becomes our painful duty this week to chronicle the death of one of our well-known farmers, Mr. Frank Snider, who passed away on Sunday evening. About 24 years ago deceased had an accident, which partially disabled him, so that he could never walk very freely after that. Nearly two years before his death he suffered a paralytic stroke, and has been helpless ever since. Dropsy and heart failure was the immediate cause of his death. He leaves a sorrowing widow, a grown-up son and a large circle of other relatives. The remains were laid to rest in Snyder's cemetery, Bloomingdale, on Tuesday afternoon.

ST. JACOBS.\emdash Many friends and relatives of the late William Clem-ens attended his funeral on Monday afternoon. The late Mr. Clemens died, on Friday night at the home of his sister, Mrs. Harry Fisher, with whom he had lived for several years. He was born in the Winterbourne district 70 years ago, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Clemens.

He is survived. by one sister, Mrs. Harry Fisher, and two brothers, Thomas of Carlingford, Ontario, and Archie of High River, Alberta. Rev. J. P. Hauch and Rev. C. H. Cornwell were the officiating ministers. Rev. Cornwell preached the memorial sermon.

They died as a result of an auto accident last Tuesday on county road 2 about four miles north of Elmira, burial was in the Presbytrian cemetery Charitable donations are being accepted as expressions of sympathy.

ST. JACOBS - Mrs. Harry H. Fisher of St. Jacobs died at her home on Saturday after a heart attack. She was 77.

The former Rebecca Clemens she was born Sept. 12, 1890 in Winterbourne, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Clemens and lived in the St. Jacobs area most of her life.

She was a member of Calvary Evangelical. United Brethren Church in St. Jacobs.

Surviving are her husband she whom she was married in Kitchener on April 7, 1915; four sons, Ralph, St. Jacobs; Ronald. Alma; Harold, Bridgeport, and Kenneth, Goldstone, two daughters, Mrs. Clayton (Dorothy) Rieck, Waterloo, and Mrs. Donald (Thelma) Derbecker, St. Jacobs; one brother, Thomas, Elmira 13 grandchildren and two greast-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters.

Wismer, -- Orphen H., son of Mr. and Mrs. Moses E. Wismer, was born in Waterloo Twp., Ont., Aug. 30, 1869; died Oct. 14, 1951; aged 82 y. 1m. 14 d. He was ordained to the ministry on July 10, 1893, and served as pastor of the Shantz Mennonite Church for over forty years. His wife, the former Sarah Bechtel, predeceased him in January, 1951. They were married May 10, 1892. Surviving are 5 sons (Byron, McCallisburg, Iowa; Milton, Windsor, Ont.; Herbert, Baden, Ont.; Elmer, Kitchener, Ont.; and Jeremiah, Bright, Ont.), 3 daughters (Florence- Mrs. Isaac Snyder, Adams. Lorne Shantz, both of Baden; Alice- Mrs. Lloyd Shantz, Waterloo, Ont.), 3 brothers (Addison, Grimsby, Ont.; Nelson, London, Ont.; and Herbert, Doon, Ont.), 3 sisters (Mrs. I. B. Erb, Kitchener, Ont.; Mrs. Nathaniel Snider, also of Kitchener; and Mrs. Phelps McNab, Owen Sound, Ont.), 23 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at the home of Lorne Shantz and at the Shantz Mennonite Church on Oct. 18 by L. H. Witmer and Manasseh Hallman, assisted by J. B. Martinand Peter Nafziger. Burial was made in the Shantz Cemetery.

WISMER, Herbert D., was born in Waterloo Co., Ont., Apr. 23, 1886; died at his home in Kitchener, Ont., Jan. 11, 1979; aged 92 y. He was married to Caroline Lehman, who died in 1962. Surviving are 2 sons (Reginald and Harry), one daughter (Mrs. Kathleen Sully), one granddaughter, and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by one daughter (Dorothy). He was a member of Pioneer Park Christian Fellowship (Mennonite), where funeral services were held on Jan. 14, in charge of Darrell D. Jantzi; interment in adjoining cemetery.

Mrs. Ivan Cressman

Mrs. Ivan Cressman of Bloomingdale. mother of Mrs. Neil (Esther) Steinman of Bright, died last Sunday at the home of another daughter living in Bridgeport, Mrs. Irvin Brubacher. She was 73.

She was a widow of the late Ivan Cressman, for many years a Breslau area farmer. The former Alda Snider, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Snider, she was born in Bloomingdale Feb. 19, 1895, and lived in the community all her life.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Laurence Martin at Bloomingdale Mennonite Church last Wednesday, with burial in the Bloomingdale cemetery.

STRANGE MALADY CAUSE OF DEATH
Bridgeport Man Succumbs To Sleeping Sickness After Six Weeks Illness

BRIDGEPORT, Dec, 25. Eudore May Reist 42-year-old resident of this village who had been suffering from encephalitis lethargicus sleeping sickness as it is commonly termed, for the past six weeks, died at his home on Christmas Day. During that period the deceased, according to the attending physician, Dr. N. A. Morrison, had been in a continual semi-stupor. It had been possible to rouse him to certain point only. He would remain in a semi-conscious condition Where the infection, which at ticks the central nervous system was derived, could not be suggested
be the physician. It is the first death directly atributable to sleeping sickness in tis district for some time and it is not looked on as a matter of concern by either Dr. Morrison or Dr. JW. Fraser, medical officer of health for Kitchener.

The deceased, a machinist at the Canadian Blower and Forge Co. was born in Waterloo township, a son of Mrs. Isabella Reist, Kitchener, and the late Soloman Reist. His mother survives with two sisters, Eleanor Reist, Kitchener, and Mrs. Florence Pitman, Kitchener.

The funeral will be held on Wednedsay afternoon at the home of his mother. 152 Queen street north, Kitchener, at 2 o'clock and thence to the Bloomingdale Mennonite church for services at 2.45 pm. Berial will take place in the adjoining cemetery. Rev. Elmer Becker of Alma Street United Brethren church, Kitchener, assisted by Rev. Lautenschlager, will officiate.

Mr. Endore Reist is Victim of Painful Accident.

Was Out To Shoot Sparrows.

An extremely unfortunate and painful accident happend to Mr. Endore Reist of East King street this morning when a gun he was carrying suddenly exploded and shot off the big toe of left foot. The young man was rushed to the hospital where his injuries were attended.

From information received it was learned by The Record that Mr. Reist. who resides on East King street just beyond the city lintits, went out about 7 o'clock with a strange shot gun to shoot some sparrows. Not being accustomed to the particular make of gun it accidentally exploded as he was fingering the mechanism. The full charge struck the big toe and that member was blown to atoms The second toe also was considerably injured, but the attending physicians have hopes of saving it.

The young man is troubled, not so much with the loss of his toe, as the fact that the accident temporarily will render him unfit for military service. Being categoried A2 he recently had been ordered to report in London today and it was while anxious to enjoy a parting shot at the sparrows and at the same time improve his knowledge of musketry that the unfortunate accident happened.

SHOOTS HIMSELF IN LEFT FOOT

Eudore Reist, aged 20, of King street east, accidentally shot himself in the foot Wednesday at about 7.30 o'clock when a double-barrelled shot gun with which he was shooting sparrows exploded while he was carrying it, slung over his arm with the muzzle pointing toward the ground, The charge entered the left foot with the result that one toe had to be amputated while a second toe was badly lacerated.

The accident happened in the rear of Reist's home. He was occupied shooting sparrows and was walking about the yard looking for birds carrying the gun with the muzzle pointing to the ground. The gun accidentally went off and the full charge of buckshot caught the young man in his left foot. Assistance immediately rushed to his aid and Dr. J. F. Honsberger was called.

Ex-councillor dies following lengthy illness

Harold Snider, a well-known Woolwich township assessor and politician, died Saturday at age 69 after a lengthy illness. The Waterloo resident was an assessor for the former Waterloo township, tax collector and assessment commissioner for the former county of Waterloo, and a councillor of the Woolwich township council for four years after it was formed in 1973.

He was a long-time Bloomingdale resident and owned and operated Snider's Market, along with his son Ken, for many years. In 1978 and 1976, Snider was defeated in bids to be mayor of Woolwich township. Snider was elected president of the Western Ontario Association of Assessors in 1959.

He resigned as county assessor in 1964 mainly for business reasons, but he also said the attitudes of some politicians and former politicians were a factor. He strongly represented his rural constituents, saying, at one point that they should not have to pay for improvements to Elmira's downtown. He is survived by his wife, the former Margaret Bechtel, a son Ken of Bloomingdale, a daughter Frances (Mrs. Wayne Starr) of Barrie, and six grandchildren. He is also survived by foster sisters Joyce Schlatman of Guelph and Gladys Pfanner of Kitchener. Funeral services were held today in the Ratz-Bechtel Chapel, with burial at Bloomindale Mennonite cemetery.

It is with great sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of Ronald William Fisher, in his 87th year, on Friday December 17, 2004. Loving and devoted husband for 58 years, of Aline Fisher (nee Garner) of Alma. Dear and loving father of Larry and his wife Lois of Elmira and Janice and her companion Frank MacKinnon of St. Jacobs. Ron was also a beloved grandfather to his only granddaughter Melissa and will be fondly remembered by his sister's Dorothy Rieck of Waterloo and Thelma Derbecker of St. Jacobs, his brother's Harold Fisher of Kitchener and Ken Fisher of Elmira, brother -in-law Jack Garner of St. Jacobs and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Harry and Rebecca Fisher, his twin brother Ralph, brother- in-law's Clayton Rieck and Don Derbecker and sister-in-law Eleanor Fisher. Ron was born in Erbsville, July 7, 1918 and served overseas in World War 2. He farmed in Alma for 25 years and was a member of the Alma United Church. A Celebration of Ron's life will be held at Alma United Church on Monday, December 20th, 2004 at 2:00 P.M. Private Interment at Elora Cemetery. Beloved husband of the former Elmina Mayer, whom he married May 28, 1931; dear father of Arlene and her husband Carl Riness of Bright, Jean and her husband Bob Innes of Innerkip, Shirley and her husband Bill Thomson of Plattsville and Bruce Wismer and his wife Celeste of Williamsford. A son, Earlus, predeceased him in infancy. He is lovingly remembered by one sister, Ada (Mrs. Lorne Shantz) of RR 2, Baden, 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents, the late Rev. Orphen Wismer and the former Sarah Bechtel; four brothers and two sisters.

She had been ailing for about two years with nephritis, but her end came rather unexpectedly. She leaves her sorrowing parents, two sisters, four brothers, and a host of friends. One brother predeceased her 27 years ago in early childhood. Sister Grace united with the Mennonite Church at Strasburg nearly five years ago, and by her own testimony leaves the assurance that she was at peace with God and her fellowmen. She lived an exemplary Christian life. Her pleasant smile and cheerful attitude will always be cherished by all who knew her. Funeral services were held May 15, at the First Mennonite Church, Kitchener, by Jesse B. Martin and C. F. Derstine.

Margaret enjoyed teaching and music, and was an active life-long member of Breslau Evangelical Missionary Church. She was also vitally involved with Kitchener-Waterloo Christian Women's Club, especially in leading home Bible studies. She further expanded her horizons by volunteer teaching of English as a Second Language to wives of international visiting scholars at the University of Waterloo. Along with Harold she enjoyed hosting prayer groups for Wycliffe Bible Translators and Gideons.

GLENNYS DOREEN CRESSMAN 1923-2006 Passed away, at St. Olga's Lifecare Centre in Hamilton, on Wednesday, October 25, 2006. Survived by her sister, Helen Brubacher of Cambridge; brothers, Willis Cressman of Cambridge, Maynard Cressman and his wife Carol of Kitchener, David Cressman and his wife Phebe of Scottdale, Pennsylvania and brother-in-law, Neil Steinman and his wife Marnie of Woodstock. Lovingly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, Ivan and Alda (Snider) Cressman; sister, Esther Steinman; brother-in-law, Irvin Brubacher and sister-in-law, Ruth Cressman. Helen was the loving wife of the late Irvin Brubacher ( 1980 ), Loving Mother of Linda Bender ( Ken ) of Kitchener, Dianne Shantz ( Larry ) of Breslau, Pat Klassen ( Art ) of Kitchener and Jennifer Horne of Waterloo. Dear Grandmother of Nathan Bender ( Audrey Mendella ), Melissa Downey ( Greg ), Troy Shantz ( Cory ), Brent Shantz ( Leigh Anne Swayne), Quinn Klassen ( Matt Madigan ), Logan Klassen, Matthew McCormick, Nick Betik ( Krista ). Great Grandmother of Tyler, Kyle, Jillian and Owen Downey, Claire Shantz and Alexandra Betik. Helen will be remembered her brothers Maynard ( Carol ) Cressman and David ( Phoebe ) Cressman. Sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents Ivan and Alda Cressman, her son Douglas (1956), her granddaughter Emilee (2010), as well as 1 brother and 2 sisters. Helen's church community was important to her and she was an active member of Breslau Mennonite Church. She enjoyed bowling, games of all kinds and spending time with her family and friends. Helen was also an avid Toronto Blue Jays fan for many years.

CRESSMAN, David W. 84 of Scottdale, passed away peacefully, Tuesday evening, July 25, 2017, at his residence, while being comforted by his loving wife and son. He was born June 15, 1933, in Bloomingdale, Ontario, Canada, a son of the late Ivan and Alda Snider Cressman. David was a graduate of Goshen College, where he obtained his degree in Elementary Education, he was also enrolled in the Mennonite Seminary (AMBS) for three years. He was appointed Pastor, at Holdeman Mennonite Church, for four years, in Wakarusa, Indiana. David was also marketing manager for the former Scottdale Mennonite Publishing House with 17 years service. David loved music and was a member of the Scottdale Heritage Singers and the Scottdale Choral Society. Dave was a self-employed contractor and real estate owner, where he enjoyed remodeling his properties and was contracted by others throughout the area for their needs. He was known by many as an outstanding softball and hockey player in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. Dave also managed the "Yankees" a Little League Team in Scottdale. David is gone from our lives, but will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him His loving wife of 56 years, Phebe A. Epp Cressman, whom he married June 9, 1961. His caring children Michael B. Cressman and wife Cori, of Stow, Ma., Jerold L. Cressman and wife Kristin, of Westford, Ma., and Timothy F. Cressman, of Scottdale. His grandchildren Luke, Ross, Erin, Anna, Rachel, Colin, and Shane Cressman. His brother Maynard Cressman and wife Carol, of Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. SHOEMAKER, Robert Leander - Peacefully at his residence, Guelph, on Monday, April 14, 2008, surrounded by his family and friends. Bob Shoemaker, in his 85th year, after a rich and full life.
