Notes:
Jacob Bliehm, "was born January 20th, 1810. He was married to Elizabeth, daughter of John and Barbara Scheirich who resided on the old "Hiestand Farm" two miles south of Berlin. Having to meet a payment of several hundred dollars in the bank at Dundas, he left home in January, 1836, and drove to Dundas where he had his horse put up in the stables of the McEwen hotel. This was the last of him. A few days afterwards his horse was still in the stable, his overcoat was hanging in the hotel, but no deposit was made in the bank. All trace of him since then has been lost. Rumor has it that he was murdered in the McEwen Hotel that night for his money and his body hid in an old well near by the hotel. A year or so after this occurrence there were a number of bodies (in a half decomposed state) found in this well, all supposed to have been murdered in this hotel, one of which bodies is said to have favored that of Bliehm's."
