After graduating from Preston High School, Joyce studied at Waterloo Lutheran University and Stratford Normal School. She pursued a career as a primary teacher at Maple Grove Public School in Preston before assuming roles as a wife and mother. Joyce enjoyed quiet leadership in the community. She was a Sunday School teacher at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in her youth and at Preston Mennonite Church as an adult. For many years, she was a leader of 4-H Homemaking Clubs. As well, she was a director in the Ladies' Division of the Cambridge Fall Fair. Along with her husband, she supported a number of community agencies for the well being of others. She was instrumental in starting and supporting the Holstein Dairy Youth show in Woodstock and Elora for children under 14 years old. Most importantly, she aimed for excellence in her tasks as a wife and mother. This devotion was evident in her superb cooking, sewing and gardening skills and in the maintenance of the family dairy farm operation. A special thank you goes to all staff at Cambridge Memorial Hospital who helped Joyce in the last six years and kept her positive, strong minded and hopeful. The care and concern showed to her by her doctors and those working in Medical Daycare, The Laboratory, X-ray, Ultrasound, Surgery, Physiotherapy, and nurses on the 3rd and 5th floor, was most appreciated. Thanks also to nurses Pat and Joanne from Community Care. Visitation will be held at Lounsbury Funeral Home , 1766 Franklin Boulevard, Cambridge on Tuesday, June 9, from 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday, June 10, from 2-4 and 7 - 9 p.m. A private family funeral service will be conducted by her cousin Rev.
