John Gauthier, 72 Cambridge

John Gauthier died at Cambridge Memorial Hospital on April 7 after being rushed to the hospital the day before. Gauthier spoke to his doctor by phone when he had symptoms and thought he might have pneumonia. But he deteriorated quickly and when he went to hospital his family couldn't see him.

"They go alone. They die alone," said Gauthier's daughter Carey Stone.

"I couldn't kiss him. It's so awful," she said.

It's not known how Gauthier contracted the virus, Stone said but her dad had chronic asthma. Her father, a retired Grand River Transit bus driver, spent much of his time with his children and grandchildren.

Stone, who was a GRT driver before she had children, said her transit colleagues called her "Little G," referring to her dad who was known as Johnny G.

"He was a warm, good person," she said.
