Habermehl. - Barbara Ringler, wife of William Habermehl, was born Oct. 24, 1852; died Dec. 11, 1920, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Jacob Sauder, Breslau, Ont.; aged 68 y. 1 m. 17 d. She was afflicted with heart trouble for several months. Six days before her death bowel trouble set in and she suffered great pain, but bore it all patiently. She was fully resigned to God's will and longed to go home to be with Jesus. She leaves husband, 5 sons, 4 daughters, 38 grandchildren, 2 sisters, and 3 brothers. We rejoice in a hope to meet her again. Funeral services were held at the Shantz Church by Orphan Wismer and Manassah Hallman. Interment in the adjoining cemetery.

In 1903, he was married to Anna Shantz, who died in 1917. Later he was married to Martha Bauman, who survives. Albert and Anna had wanted to marry sooner than they did but when they approached their minister (name unknown), he refused to marry them and suggested that they wait a while. When they approached him a second time, he again refused to marry them. This refusal was due to the fact that Anna's father did not want Anna to marry "a cripple" and had convinced the minister that he should not marry them. Anna had previously worked for Bishop Jonas Snider so they asked him to marry them. He not only conducted the marriage ceremony when Albert married Anna S Shantz, but also performed the marriage ceremony when Albert married Martha G Bauman.

He lived in the township for over 30 years before moving to RR 2, Preston. He was an unordained minister of Hewitt Mennonite Church for 21 years and later a farmer. Surviving are his wife, the former Catherine Schwantz; three sons, Rev. Albert Habermehl of Didsbury, Alta., Clarence of Hespeler, William of Washington, Ont.; three daughters. Mrs. Alger (Mildred) Hilborn, RR 2, Preston; Lila of St. Marys and Marjorie at home. There also are four bothers and four sisters. The body is at the Stager Funeral Home, Hespeler, until Wednesday at 11 a.m., when removal will be made to Warmer's Mennonite Church for funeral service at 2: 30 p.m. Rev. After a brief illness William Habermehl, 75, of Breslau died Saturday, April 11, at K-W Hospital. Born in Wilmot Township he was a resident of Breslau since 1928. He farmed in Waterloo Township prior to coming to Breslau.

He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Habermehl. His wife, the former Lilian Sauder, died six years ago.

Surviving are three sons, Jerry of Breslau, Moses of Waterloo and William of Toronto, three daughters, Mrs. Barbara Henderson of Hamilton, Bermuda, Mrs. Merman (Catherine Hopf of Breslau and Mrs. Emil (Caroline) Kuschnereit of Kitchener; three brothers, Albert of St. Jacobs, John of Kitchener, and Levi of Walrous, Sask., and four sisters Mrs. Elizabeth Bartin of Preston, Mrs. Amande Brubacher and Mrs. Christian Kropf of Kitchener; and Mrs. Jacob Sauder of Breslau. She was a member of Stirling Avenue Mennonite Church, the Friendly Circle and formerly a member of the Centreville Women's Institute. Her husband died in September, 1961. Surviving are two sons, Clarence and Lloyd A., both of Kitchener, a daughter, Mrs. Paul (Viola) Korrac of Parry Sound; a sister, Mrs. Jacob (Katie) Sauder of Breslau; 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. The body will be at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home until noon Thursday when removal will be made to Stirling Avenue Mennonite Church for service at 3 p.m. conducted by Rev. James Reusser. Burial will be in Woodland cemetery. Donations to the Women's Missionary Association memorial fund will be accepted as expressions of sympathy.

MRS. MOSES REIST

Conestogo Mrs. Menno Reist, formerly of Elmira, died here today at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Jesse Gingrich, after a brief illness. She was 81. The former Lydia Heer, she was born June 7, 1889, in Wilmot Township, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Herr. She was a member of the Elmira Mennonite Church. Her husband predeceased her in 1960. Surviving are one son, Edwin of RR 1, New Hamburg; three daughters, Mrs. Jesse (Perceda) Gingrich of Conestogo; Salome and Lucinda, both of Elmira; one brother, Albert of Waterloo; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by one son, three brothers and six sisters. The body will be at the Dreisinger Funeral Parlor, Elmira, until noon Thursday when removal will be made to Elmira Mennonite Church where Rev. Vernon Leis will conduct a service at 2: 30 p.m. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.

Albert Holtzworth

Albert Holtzworth, RR 2, Petersburg, died Saturday at the K-W Hospital after a brief illness. He was 83.

A son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Holtzworth, he was born Sept. 26, 1885 in Waterloo Township. He farmed at RR 2, Petersburg for many years. He was a member of Mannheim Mennonite Church.

Surviving are his wife, the former Mary Anne Knarr whom he married April 3, 1912 in Wilmot Township; two sons, Harold, Kitchener and Carl, at home; three daughters, Mrs. Julius (Seleda) Wagenknecht and Mrs. Clayton (Alberta) Oesch, both of Kitchener and Mrs. Irvin (Lydia) Weber, RR2, Petersburg; two sisters, Mrs. Jacob (Annie) Holst, RR 2, Petersburg and Mrs. Edna Asmussen, Kitchener; 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by an infant son Elmer, a brother Norman, and a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Rueffer.

Funeral service was held at the Mannheim Mennonite church yesterday, Rev. Gordon Bauman officiating.

Burial was in Mannheim Mennonite cemetery.

FEICK, Beatrice March 11, 1927 - February 27, 2012 Beatrice Habermehl Feick was born to Albert and Martha Habermehl on March 11, 1927 at St. Jacob's, Ontario. Her life's journey took her to Northern Ontario, Toronto, Elora and Cottam, Ontario, Luseland, Saskatchewan and finally to Saskatoon. In each place she made many friends and blessed many lives. She experienced numerous challenges in her life but always found a way to make the best of them and even to overcome them. Though they lost two of their own children, Beatrice and Ed were adopted as mom and dad by someone in almost every community in which they lived. Growing flowers, stitching quilts and doting on her grandchildren were her passions, and she always had time for anyone who came to visit. Beatrice died Monday, February 27 at Luther Special Care Home, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Left to mourn her passing are her husband of 57 years, Ed Feick, her son Dave and his wife Joanne and their children, Carissa and Eric Boschmann, Jason and Scott, her sisters: Alice Weber and friend Ray Erb, Doris and Bill Ermel, in-laws: Eileen Habermehl, Don Snider, Aileen Feick, Jim Feick and Liz Shiell, Grace and Edward Snider, many nieces and nephews and their families as well as many, many dear friends. Beatrice was predeceased by her parents, Albert and Martha Habermehl, her children, Larry and Barbara, her older siblings and their spouses, Vera and Eli Bauman, Ada and Norman Buhler, Edna Habermehl, Clayton and Olga Habermehl, Erma and Elvin Drudge, Ida Habermehl, Rita Habermehl (in infancy), younger brother Leonard Habermehl. Funeral Service is to be held Saturday, March 3, 2012 at 2 p.m. at Osler Mennonite Church, 212 2nd Avenue, Osler with arrangements in the care of Funk's Funeral Home in Rosthern, Saskatchewan (306-232- 5245). On Wednesday morning, Aug. 31, 1994, at her residence, St. Luke's Place, Cambridge. Marjorie Habermehl, in her 82nd year. Beloved daughter of the late Abraham and Catherine (Schwantz) Habermehl and dear sister of Clarence of Cambridge. Miss Habermehl, was predeceased by three brothers and three sisters. She will be sadly missed by her friend, Lois Wiechers and her many nieces and nephews. Marjorie was a longtime music teacher (ARTC), in the Hespeler District of Cambridge. The pianist and organist at the Hespeler Baptist Church and worked for many years in the infant nursery of the church and was a member of the Music Teachers Association of Ontario. Resting at the Nelson Funeral Home, 1766 Franklin Blvd., Cambridge, where the family will receive friends, Thursday evening, Sept. 1, 1994 (today) from 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held Friday afternoon, at 1: 30 p.m., September 2, 1994, at Hespeler Baptist Church, with interment following, at Wanner's Cemetery, Cambridge.

SAUDER, Orvil Of Lacombe, AB, passed away at the Lacombe Hospital on Monday, December 14, 2009 at the age of 92 years. Orvil was born on November 3, 1917 near St. Jacobs, ON. At the age of two the family moved to the farm on the hill overlooking the village of Breslau, ON, where he grew up with three brothers Clare, Gordon and Carl and four sisters Nelda, Alice, Marjorie and Edith.

He attended the one room school which was attached to their property and his father cared for by keeping the furnace lit, etc. Orvil spoke of many escapades along with the hard work - that he and his family and friends did over the years. They attended a little Mennonite Church in Breslau and for the most part the girls got to ride to church in the horse and buggy but the boys would have to walk.

Orvil spoke of his memory of milking the cows with his mother and singing hymns together. Orvil married Elizabeth Stan in 1944. They had two children 'Diane and Larry. Orvil worked very hard providing and caring for his family. In 1953 he was hired on in the trade as an electrician which continued to his retirement. As his children married and moved to Lacombe, Alberta, Orvil soon followed and eventually moved on to Larry and Carol's farm. Orvil's greatest love was his family and being with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He would share many rhymes with them (both in German and in English). He had a wonderful sense of humour and enjoyed playing euchre and crokinole. He enjoyed working with Larry on the farm and together establishing Sauder Electric. He also loved to fish. He would take his grandchildren fishing and went on many fishing trips with Larry and others. Orvil was predeceased by his brother Clare, his sisters Nelda Bergy and Marjorie Zieman as well as his parents, Jacob and Catherine Sauder.


He is survived and lovingly remembered by his sister Alice O'Donoghue of Kitchener, ON, brother Gordon (Ella) Sauder of Dunnville, ON, brother Carl (Mabel) Sauder of Manitoulin Island and sister Edith (Emerson) Hisey of Lions Head, ON; his children Diane (Reg) Darnell of Lacombe, AB, Larry (Carol) Sauder of Lacombe, AB; his grandchildren Tim (Stephanie) Darnell, Kevin (June) Darnell, Chris (Michele) Darnell, Krystal (Mark) Berg, all of Lacombe, AB, Jennifer (Dave) O'Brien of Fort McMurray, AB; his great-grandchildren Ben, Bryan, Alyssa, Abigail, Haley, Nick, Hannah, Matthew, Hope Darnell and Taya Berg. How blessed we were to have him in our lives and will treasure forever all of our wonderful memories.

A celebration of Orvil's life will be held at the Meadowbrook Church on January 7, 2010, at 1: 00 pm with his son-in-law, Pastor Reg Darnell, officiating. Rev. Carl Wagner officiated at Grace Lutheran church, Kitchener, on Monday for the funeral of Moses Heer, 50, of Kitchener, who died Friday at St. Mary's hospital. Burial was in Mount Hope cemetery, Kitchener.

Born in Kitchener, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Heer, he lived in the twin-city area all his life.

He served with the RCAF during the second world war.

O'KRAFKA, Helen November 29, 1922 - March 30, 2011 We lost a wonderful lady and heaven won a new angel just after midnight on Wednesday, March 30th. Helen Lillian O'Krafka (Ringler) passed peacefully into God's loving arms. She joins her husband Harry "Steve" (1990), her sister Beatrice Stephenson, her son Peter (January 2011), her parents Charlie and Ida Ringler and many brothers and sisters-in-law. Left on earth to celebrate her life and mourn her death are her children Sharon (Dana Anderson), Katherine (John Collins), Steve (Linda), Paul (Dianne) and daughter-in-law Debbie (Peter). Helen also leaves 16 grand- children and 13 great-grandchildren with two on the way in the next six weeks. Helen will be remembered as a good neighbour and a good friend to many in the neighbourhoods where she lived. These include: Hespeler; Eagle Lane on Puslinch Lake, Doral Villas in Clearwater Florida and Apple Blossom at St. Joseph's Health Centre in Guelph. Helen's first job was at Dominion Woollens Mill. It was here that she met her husband whom she married while he was on a brief leave from WWII. Most of her adult life Helen was a homemaker. She worked at the Hostess Potato Chip Factory, the Hespeler Public School and O'Krafka Brothers. Helen received strong support from her church family at St. James Anglican Church in Hespeler, especially the Reverend George Ferris in recent years. She enjoyed the company of the Fellowship Club where she and Steve hosted annually for many years for a summer barbeque. In retirement, Helen and Steve added on to their cottage at Puslinch Lake. It was the family and neighbourhood gathering centre for most of the summer. Helen enjoyed swimming and water skiing but most of all she enjoyed cruising the lake on her pontoon boat, usually with many grandchildren in tow. She and Steve spent about 20 winters in Florida in their winter home at Doral Villas in Clearwater. They had another group of good friends there. Together they spent time going to Flea Markets, shopping in the big malls, swimming, golfing, playing pool, playing cards, visiting and riding their three-wheel bikes. Friends and family from Canada were always welcome and they enjoyed the visits of many guests. Helen's last stop and last home was St. Joseph's Health Centre in Guelph. She moved there on September 22, 2004. The facilities were brand new and lovely but more importantly the staff continued the more than 100 year history and tradition of caring of the Sisters of St. Joseph. They were her caregivers, but much more than that they were surrogate family to Helen. The O'Krafka family are extremely thankful to all associated with St. Joseph's and especially the wonderful staff who cared for and loved our mother on Apple Blossom. You are the best. Thank You. Helen's life will be celebrated on Friday, April 1st and Saturday, April 2nd. Her memory will last for ever. Memories can be shared at the Lounsbury Funeral Home, 1766 Franklin Boulevard, Cambridge on Friday, April 1st from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 2nd at St. James Anglican Church, 520 Ellis Road, Cambridge at 11 a.m. with Father Mario Hryniewicz officiating. By Record Correspondent PETERSBURG, March 17.-Pte. Carl H. Holtzworth was wounded in both legs while fighting with the Essex Scottish Regiment in Holland on Feb. 28, and is recovering in a hospital following an operation on the legs.

He had served with the Royal Canadian Artillery on the west coast for two years before going overseas in August, 1944. He later transferred to an infantry regiment.

Pte. Holtzworth is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Holtzworth, Petersburg.

He was born 83 years ago in Wilmot Township and was the son of the late Jacob and Annie (Holtzworth) Holst. George was a member of Steinmann Mennonite Church, Baden. George enjoyed gardening, woodworking and volunteering at Nithview Home and the New Hamburg Thrift Store for many years.

Beloved husband of Grace (Jantzi) Holst whom he married June 2, 1948. Loving father of Robert and Vera Holst of Gowanstown, Bruce Holst and Brenda Meadows of Goderich, Paul and Cindy Holst of New Hamburg, Shirley and Steve Kennel of Bright, and Audrey and Paul Rooney of Kitchener. Loving grandpa of 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. HOLST, Clarence - Passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, on Wednesday, July 6, 2005, at K-W Health Centre of the Grand River Hospital, Kitchener, Clarence Holst, of RR1, St. Agatha. He was born 78 years ago on June 20, 1927 in Wilmot Township, a son of the late Jacob and Annie (Holtzworth) Holst. Clarence was a member of St. Agatha Mennonite Church where he had been the cemetery caretaker for many years. He farmed at RR1, St. Agatha for over 50 years, was a member of the Happy Farmers Harmonica Band and enjoyed woodworking, planting trees and spending time with his grandchildren. Beloved husband of Mae Victoria (Zehr) Holst who he married October 6, 1951.
