    DEATH OF MICHAEL ALLGEIER

    The death took place at the Hamilton hospital yesterday afternoon of Michael Allgeier, a former well-known and highly respected resident of Elmira. Mr. Allgeier had been ailing for the past three years, but during the past year his decline was most noticeable.

    Mr. Allgeier was born in Woolwich township, a son of the late Philip Allgeier, and until 27 years ago he was a farmer. During this time he was married to Catherine Axt, who passed away only six months ago. After coming to Elmira he went into the woodworking trade being engaged in the Interior. woodworking plant for some years and later following the occupation of capenter-contractor. He took a prominent part in municipal affairs, being a Councillor. Reeve and Mayor in due course. His health compelled him to discontinue his active life and he has lived in retirement for some years.

    A family of two daughters and two sons survive, namely, Fred. Zeigler of Peterson Sask. Mrs. Ernie Wales of Brampton and Messrs. Alvin and Clayton Allgeier of Elmira. One sister also survives, Mrs. Amos Mus-selman of Elmira. The funeral takes place tomorrow (Friday) afternoon at 2.30 o'clock to the Elmira Cemetery.

    YOUNG LIFE PAID AS WAR SACRIFICE
    DEATH OF HERBERT ALLGEIER OCCURS AS RESULT OF WAR EXPERIENCES

    Another sacrifice to the great war was consummated in death last Monday of Mr. Herbert Allgeier, son of Reeve Michael Allgeier, who passed away in Byron Sanitarium after a prolonged period of ill health resulting from his experiences overseas, when he was gassed by the enemy in the battles on the French front in 1918.

    The late Mr. Allgeier was twenty-seven years and six months old. He was born in Peel township on the old homestead on the eighth of Peel, and came to Elmira with his parents sixteen years ago. He lived in Elmira continuously until he went overseas in July 1918, returning in April 1919.

    The funeral is being held to-day to the Evangelical Church, and thence to the Elmira Cemetery. In the absence of Rev Mr. Bean through illness, Rev. Mr. Jewitt is taking charge of the services.

    Besides his parents, the late Mr. Allgeier is survived by two brothers, Alvin and Clayton in town, and by two sisters Mrs. Ernie Wales of Brampton, and Mrs. Fred Ziegler of Dana, Sask., for all of whom much sympathy to expressed through the community in this the hour of their bereavement.

    Alvin Allgeier of 6 Ernst St. died January 27 in Victoria Hospital, London, Ont., following a lengthy illness. He was 73. A son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Michael Allgeier, he was born in Woolwich Township Sept 19[?], 1896. He was a member of Zion United Church. Surviving besides his wife the former Beatrice [S…?] are a son, John of Elmira, two sisters, Mrs. Frederick Ziegler of Elmira and Mrs Ernest [Wa…?] of Inglewood, and three grandchildren. Mr. Allgeier was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters. The body was at the Dreisinger Funeral Parlor where the service was conducted Thursday at 3 p.m. by Rev. M.E. […ber?]. Burial was in Elmira cemetery.

    ALLGEIER, Robert "Bob" Mellis - Bob died peacefully on December 14, 2014, aged 88. Born in Elmira on July 23, 1926, second child of Clayton and Helen (nee Tyack) Allgeier. Survived by children Jen, Doug (Wendy Newbery) and Gordon, grandchildren Evie and Clare, brother Don (Betty), and brother-in-law Cec Mayer. Predeceased by siblings Herb Allgeier and Joyce Mayer, and granddaughter Pamela Allgeier-Glebe. Bob was fortunate to have many good friends. He loved driving, jazz music, making wine, playing golf, planes and social events of all kinds. A celebration of Bob's life will be held at The Holiday Inn, 510 Norwich Avenue, Woodstock on January 18, 2 - 4pm. The family would like to thank CCAC and Lisaard House for their care and support.     Passed away peacefully with Betty at his side on Sunday January 4, 2015 at the Chartwell Westmount Retirement Residence, Kitchener. Don was formerly of Morningside Village, New Hamburg. He was born 86 years ago in Elmira and was the Son of the late Clayton & Helen (Tyack) Allgeier.

    Beloved husband of Betty (Schneider) Allgeier who he married October 18, 1952. Sadly missed by his Brother-in-law Cecil Mayer of Owen Sound, Sister-in-law Mildred Kraft & husband Don of Waterloo, Brother-in-law Howard Schneider & Cathy of Kitchener. Don was predeceased by his brother Robert Allgeier of Kitchener and by his Brother Herbert Allgeier & wife Shirley and Sister Joyce Mayer.
    Don was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, New Hamburg and was employed at Ellis and Howard for 44 years.

    Cremation has taken place. A memorial service to celebrate Don's life will take place on Thursday January 8, 2015 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, New Hamburg with visitation from Noon until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. . Rev. David Gallas officiating. Interment in First Union Cemetery, Elmira. As expressions of sympathy donations may be made to Alzheimer Society, Canadian Cancer Society or charity of one's choice. Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, New Hamburg assisted with the arrangements.
