    BUSCHERT - Wendell Buschert was born at Williamsburg, Ont., Sept. 13, 1847; passed away to his eternal rest at Breslau, Ont., on May 30, 1917; aged 69 y. 8 m. 28 d. His entire life was spent in Waterloo county. Bro. Buschert was a member of the Mennonite Church for many years, keeping the faith unto the end. He was married in 1871 to sister Lydia Cressman, to which union were born 12 children, 2 of them dying in infancy. There are left to mourn his departure a sorrowing wife, 7 sons, 3 daughters, 3 brothers, 2 sisters and 23 grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Breslau on Sunday afternoon, June 3, conducted by J. S. Woolner and Oscar Burkholder. Text, 11 Cor. 5: 1.

    BUSCHERT. Norman Buschert was born Oct. 2, 1872, near Kitchener, Ont.; died at his home Nov. 16, 1935, near Carstairs, Alta.; aged 63 y. 1 m. 14 d. He left his native home and came to Alberta in 1899; taking up a homestead where he resided till death. On Dec. 2, 1903, he was united in marriage to Mary Weber formerly of Kitchener. To this union were born 6 children. He leaves his sorrowing widow, 4 sons (Earl, Lorne, Roy, and Gordon), 2 daughters (Myrtle and Mabel), 3 grandchildren, 6 brothers (Ira, Joseph, Ammon, and Chester of Ontario; Ivan of Cereal; Ephraim of Dogpound, Alta.) And 1 sister (Mrs Alexander Sherriffs of Carstairs). He united with the West Zion Mennonite Church on Sept. 15, 1901, the time when the church was first organized. He was ordained deacon in 1925, serving in this office till the Lord called him home.About a year ago he suffered with a stroke, but had regained his health. Then about 2 weeks before his death he suffered with an inward stroke and the day before his death his one side was paralyzed. Death quickly followed. From the time he took sick he was unable to talk or show very little signs of recognition; but we have the consolation that he lived a Christian life. May he rest in peace. Funeral services were held Nov. 19 at the West Zion Mennonite Church near Carstairs. Interment in adjoining cemetery. Text, II Cor 5: 1; "For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens."

    Norman C. Buschert: deacon in the West Zion Mennonite Church near Carstairs, Alberta, was born 2 October 1872 near Kitchener, Ontario, and died 16 November 1935 near Carstairs, Alberta. He married Mary Weber, formerly of Berlin (Kitchener), on 2 December 1903. They were the parents of 6 children.

    Norman Buschert purchased a homestead in the Carstairs district in 1900 and was one of the founding members when the West Zion Mennonite Church was organized in 1901. Mary Weber was one of two young ladies who arrived in Carstairs from Ontario in 1902. She and Norman were the first couple to be married in the West Zion Mennonite church. They remained in the community and continued to serve the church all through their married life.

    In 1925 Norman Buschert was ordained by lot to the office of deacon, a position he filled diligently and sacrificially until the time of his fatal illness in 1935. He suffered a stroke in 1934 but regained his health briefly but died shortly after a second stroke in November of 1935.

    BUSCHERT. - Ira, son Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Buschert, was born at Winterbourne, Ont., May 8, 1882; died at the K. W. Hospital, Oct. 19, 1945, from a complication of diseases; aged 63 y. 5 m. 11 d. On March 20, 1907, he was married to Nancy Binder of Breslau. Surviving are his widow, 2 sons (Claire and Herbert W., both of Kitchener), 3 grandchildren, 4 brothers (Ivan, Cereal, Alta.; Ammon, Waterloo, Ont.; Joseph, Kitchener, Ont.; and Chester, Preston, Ont.), and one sister (Mrs. Alexander Sheriffs, Carstairs, Alta.). Early in life he accepted Christ and united with the Mennonite Church. His religious experience was not a matter of much talk but rather of consistent living. He will be greatly missed by the family, church, and community. Memorial services were held at the First Mennonite Church, in charge of C. F. Derstine and Merle Shantz. Text, I Thess. 4: 14. Interment was made at Breslau.

    Sitler. - Hannah Buschert, wife of Jeremiah Sitler, was born at Winterbourne, Ont., Jan. 7, 1884; died at the Kitchener-Waterloo, Ont., hospital on Nov. 24, 1933; aged 49 y. 10 m. 17 d. She suffered a stroke on Wednesday morning, Nov. 22 and never regained consciousness. She accepted Christ at 19 years of age and retained her faith to the journey's end. On Aug. 6, 1916, she was married to Jeremiah Sitler at Youngstown, Alta. Those who mourn are her husband, 1 son (Paul), 1 daughter (Arlene), 7 brothers (Norman, Carstairs, Alta.; Ephraim, Dogpound, Alta.; Ivan, Cereal, Alta.; Joseph, Kitchener, Ont.; Chester, Preston, Ont.; Ammon, Waterloo, Ont.), and 1 sister (Mrs. Alex.     MRS JEREMIAH SITLER


    Following an illness of Hannah Sitler, wife of Jeremiah Sitler, R.R. No. 1. Waterloo, passed away at the K-W Hospital at o'clock this morning. Death was due to a stroke, Mrs. Sitier in her both year, was born in Winter bourne and was married on August 6, 1916 to Mr. Sitler at Youngstown, Alta. She was a member of the Cressman Mennonite Church Breslau.

    Surviving are her husband, one son and one daughter, Paul and Irene, both at home, Seven brothers. Norman Buschert, Carstairs, Alta, Ephriam of Dogpound, Alta, Ira in Kitchener, Ivan of Cereal, Alta, Joseph in this city, Chester of Preston and Ammon of Waterloo, and one sister, Melinda, Mrs. Alex Sherriff, Carstairs, Alta, also survive. One sister, Mrs. S. Wenger of Grand Rapids, Mich, predeceased her 15 years ago.

    Remains are resting at the Ratz Bechtel Funeral Home.

    Buschert Chester, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Buschert, was born at Winterbourne, Ont., Dec. 28, 1889; passed away at his home in Preston, Ont., Sept. 18, 1946; aged 56 y. 8 m. 20 d. On Oct. 20, 1923, he was married to Mary Edna Snyder, who survives. Also surviving are 3 sons (Robert, of Goshen College, Goshen, Ind.; and Donald and David, both at home), one sister (Mrs. Alex Sheriff, Carstairs, Alta.). and 3 brothers (Ivan, Cereal, Alta.; Joseph, Kitchener, Ont.; and Ammon, Waterloo, Ont.) In his early youth he united with the Mennonite Church, and for many years served as Sunday-school superintendent. In 1944 he was ordained to the office of deacon, and was actively engaged in charitable and mission organizations of the church. Funeral services were in charge of B. B. Shantz and Oscaar Burkholder, assisted by Levi C. Hartzler, of Goshen, Ind., and Merle Shantz, of Kitchener. Text, Acts 11: 24. His body was laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery.

    DONALD EDWARD BUSCHERT 1928 - 2010 Passed away at Parkwood Mennonite Home, Waterloo, on Saturday, January 16, 2010, at the age of 81. Beloved husband of Betty (nee Rudy) and loving father of Karen Buschert and her husband Geoffrey Vanderkooy and Kevin Buschert and his wife Clare Leonard. Sadly missed by his grandchildren Theo, Miranda and Emily Vanderkooy and Anna and Oliver Buschert; brother David Buschert and his wife Joyce and his sister-in-law Joy Buschert. Fondly remembered by Betty's family, brothers-in-law Carl Rudy (Ruth), Willis Rudy (Susan), Harold Rudy, John Rudy (Catherine) and Elvin Rudy and sisters-in-law Doreen Good (Dale), Barbara Stager (Arthur), Karen Bergey (Ed) and Elizabeth Rudy. Predeceased by his parents Chester and Mary Edna Buschert; brother Robert Buschert and brother-in-law Glen Rudy. Born March 16, 1928, in Galt, Donald grew up in Preston. Donald's career as an educator and business manager led him to a 19 year teaching position at Rockway Mennonite Collegiate as well as owner of Rural Carriage Supply in Elmira. Donald's faith kept him active as a lifetime member of Preston Mennonite Church as a Sunday School teacher and involved on several committees of the church. Family was very important to Donald and he enjoyed family vacations, sailing and steam trains in his spare time. Friends are invited to share their memories of Donald with his family during visitation at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Thursday, January 21, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Preston Mennonite Church, 791 Concession St. Cambridge on Friday, January 22 at 11 a.m. Interment at Hagey Mennonite Cemetery Cambridge.
