Dettwiler. - Joseph W. Dettwiler was born in Waterloo Co., Ont., Feb. 17. 1834; died at the home of his eldest daughter, Mary Brubaker, Morris, Alta., April 29, 1917; aged 83 y. 2 m. 12 d. He was married to Annie Martin, and the union was blessed with twelve children. His companion preceded him to the spirit world about three months and seven children died in infancy. There remain to mourn his departure 1 brother (Jonas W. Dettwiler, Versailles, Mo.), 1 son (Simon P.), 4 daughters (3 in Michigan and 1 in Alberta).Deceased moved to Kent Co., Mich., about the time that the Civil War broke out in the United States, having with him his wife's mother who was later buried in the Mennonite graveyard near Caldeonia, Mich. After this he cared for his mother during the remainder of her life. In 1879 he with his family moved to Emmert Co., Mich., where his mother died and was the first to be buried in the Mennonite graveyard at Brutus. Having lost all that he had in his old age, he with his wife and a grandson moved to Alberta where they had their home with their son-in-law, Bro. A. Brubaker. He was the first to be buried in the new Mennonite Cemetery at Reist, Alta. Services conducted by Bro. Moses Schmidt. Text (selected by the deceased) II Cor. 5: 1. Bro. Dettwiler was sick part of a week. He longed so much to go home and finally fell asleep in peace.

John Detweiler was born in Canada, October 1, 1857. He came to Michigan with his parents when 8 years old. He lived the greater part of his natural life near Caledonia. He married Martha Nogles. To this union were given seven children; of this number three survive: Ephraim of Grand Rapids, Freeman and Mrs. Harvey Shook of Caledonia, Michigan. His second marriage was with Sarah Warner, who with two brothers, three sisters, and six grandchildren,survive. The funeral services were conducted from the United Brethren Church in Caledonia. The body was laid to rest in the cemetery at Holy Corners. The Rev. C. L. Snyder officiated.

Dettwiler. - Joseph, son of Abraham and Barbara (Koch) Dettwiler, was born in Waterloo Co., Ont., Sept. 8, 1860; died Nov. 9, 1940; aged 80 y. 2 m. 1 d. He was blessed with good health, never having required the services of a physician during his lifetime, until about 10 months ago his health began to fail and about 4 months ago, after a doctor's examination it was discovered that cancer had developed. When a young man he joined the Mennonite Church and was faithful to the end. In 1882 he married Elizabeth Leinbach. This union was blessed with 5 children. One son preceded him to death in 1911. There remain to mourn his passing his widow and 4 children (Amanda Wilson of Kingman, Alta.; Noah of Limon, Colo.; Aaron of New Paris, Ind.; Malinda Dettwiler at home); also 1 brother (Abraham, of St. Jacobs, Ont.), and 1 sister (Elizabeth of Goshen, Ind.), 15 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. Three sisters and 2 brothers preceded him in death. At the age of 3 he moved to Michigan with his parents and lived there until 1910, when he moved to Youngstown, Alta., with his family. In 1924 he moved to Kingman, Alta., at which place he lived until his death. He had a deep desire for spiritual things, always attending the place of worship whenever it was possible to do so. Funeral services were conducted in the home and at the Salem Mennonite Church, Nov. 12. Services in charge of Bros. M. D. Stutzman and J. B. Stauffer. Texts, Rev. 14: 15; Psa.36: 9. Burial in near-by cemetery.

Dettwiler.-Abraham K., son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Abraham W. Dettwiler, was born near Floradale, Ont., Oct. 20, 1862; died at the Kitchener-Waterloo Hospital, Kitchener, Ont., after a brief illness, May 4, 1949; aged 86 y. 6 m. 14 d. He spent some of his early years in Michigan, took up residence in St. Jacobs, Ont., in 1913 and lived there until his death. On March 12, 1893, he was united in marriage to Veronica Sauder, who preceded him in death nearly twelve years ago. To this union were born 8 children, 3 of whom died in infancy. Surviving are 3 daughters (Sevilla, St. Jacobs, Ont.; Mrs. Annie Ramer. Markham, Ont.; and Laura-Mrs. Eden Cressman, St. Jacobs), 2 sons (Enos, West Montrose, Ont.; and Reuben, Floradale, Ont.), one sister (Mrs. Elizabeth Culp, Wakarusa, Ind.), 16 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. He was a faithful member of the Mennonite Church from his youth. Funeral services were held at the St. Jacobs Mennonite Church on May 6, in charge of Roy S. Koch.

Eby,-- Cyrus, son of William K. and Susannah (Dettwiler) Eby, was born Oct. 31, 1866, in Conestoga, Ont.; died Dec. 28, 1951, at New Paris, Ind.; aged 85 y. 1 m. 28 d. He was married to Elizabeth Brubacher in 1890, to which union were born 6 children who survive him (Jeremiah Eby, Mrs. Susannah Brubacher, William Eby, Israel Eby, Mrs. Amanda Kulp, Mrs. Lydia Kilmer). His wife Elizabeth died Jun 11, 1913. He was married again to Susannah W. Martin in 1917. She died Nov. 20, 1934. Also surviving him are a stepson (Mahlon Martin, Brutus, Mich.), 45 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and one sister (Mrs. Daniel Brubacher, Elverson, Pa.). He moved withhis family to Brutus, Mich., in 1898 where he lived on a farm till the death of his wife, after which he made his home with his daughter. He accepted Christ as his Saviour in his youth and faithfully served the Lord until his departure. Weaver.-Susan Weaver, aged 68 y. 8 m. 6 d., died at the home of her son Perry, in Salem, Oreg., April 21, 1937. She was born in Michigan Aug. 15, 1868, and lived most of her early life in Kansas and Missouri and lived the last 30 years in the West. She united with the Mennonite Church in her youth and endeavored faithfully to serve her Lord until death. Her marriage to Menno B. Weaver occurred at Harper, Kans., Nov. 27, 1890. Her husband was ordained to the office of deacon, Oct. 17, 1920, in which capacity she faithfully served the Church with her husband until his death Apr. 26, 1923. To this union were born 9 children (William Earl, Valsetz, Oreg.; Fanny Jane, who died in infancy; Mrs. H. C. Nendel, John S., Summit, Oreg.; Luke E., Atwater, Calif.; Paul V., Lorane, Oreg.; Mrs. Earl Stewart, Albany, Oreg.; Perry L., Salem, Oreg.; Clarence Dan, Blodgett, Oreg.). She also leaves 34 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. One grandchild preceded her in death. Two brothers (W. E. Detwiler of Harper, Kans., and Jonas Detwiler of Versailles, Mo.), and 3 sisters (Mrs. Adeline Fenton, Cherry Box, Mo.; Mrs. Leah Horst, Terra Bella, Calif.; Amanda Detwiler, Harper, Kans.) survive her. One brother (John S. Dettwiler) and 1 sister (Barbara Detwiler) preceded her. She was always a loving, kind mother, and a friend to all. Her greatest happiness was in doing some service for others. Funeral service at Albany Mennonite Church, Daniel Shenk and N. A. Lind, officiating, and burial at Oak Lawn Memorial Park, Corvallis, Oreg.

Detweiler, William E., son of Jonas and Amanda (Eby) Detweiler, was born near Versailles, Mo., March 9, 1872; died at his home near Harper, Kans., Oct. 7, 1961; aged 89 y. 6 m. 28 d. On May 4, 1904, he was married to Emma Shepp, who died Feb. 18, 1939. Surviving are one son (Ernest, Harper), 4 daughters (Bertha-Mrs. A. R. King, Harper; Pearl, Denver, Colo.; Velma-Mrs. Howard Dunbar, Harper; and Emily-Mrs. John Diller, Hesston, Kans.), 14 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Two sons preceded him in death. He was a member of the Pleasant Valley church, where funeral services were held in charge of James Detweiler, H. J. King, and H. I. Jennings.

Dettwiler. - Amanda Jane, daughter of Jonas and Amanda Jane (Eby) Dettwiler was born near Versailles, Mo., June 11, 1875; died at her home near Harper, Kans., Dec. 21, 1938, after an illness of several months; aged 63 y. 6 m. 10 d. She was converted and joined the Mennonite Church in her early teens and remained faithful to her Lord and the Church through her entire life. She never married, but devoted her life completely to others. She loved children and spent from 1912 to 1923 taking care of the boys in the Orphans' Home at West Liberty, Ohio, and later spent a few years in the Children's Home in Kansas City, Kans. Since 1927 she has spent her time in caring for others in the homes of her brothers, sisters, nephews, and nieces who lived in Missouri, Kansas, California, and Oregon. She leaves 2 sisters and 2 brothers (Adeline Fenton and William E. Detweiler of Harper, Kans.; Leah Horst of Terra Bella, Calif.; and Jonas Dettwiler of Versailles, Mo.). Her parents, 2 sisters, and a brother preceded her. Thirty-three nieces and nephews remain who loved and respected their aunt Amanda. She always was so thoughtful of each one. She endured her suffering with much patience and cheerfulness. The little poem "The Home Land" meant much to her the last few days of her life.

Solomon S. Schiedel, 70, a farmer living at 4388 Douglas avenue, Cooper Center, ended his life by hanging in his garage, the sheriff's department reported today. The body was discovered last evening by the victim's son and daughter Walter and Harmena S. Schiedel, 824 Parchmount avenue, Parchment. Dr. Horace Cobb, county coroner, was summoned to the home by the deputies and said the man had been dead since last Tuesday or Wednesday. Newspapers, dating back to last Tuesday, had been left untouched in the mail box. The son said that he became alarmed when his father did not come to his house for dinner yesterday and investigated to find the body. The body was removed to the Langeland funeral chapel. Mr. Schiedel has been a resident of Kalamazoo and vicinity since 1918 and was a farmer until his retirement two years ago. Born, Nov. 7, 1879, at Caledonia, Mich., he was a member of the Damon Methodist church. He leaves a daughter, Mrs. Irene Nieskens, East Leroy, Mich.; two sons, Harold, Portage and Walter, Parchment; two brothers, William, Fairfield, Ia. and Owen, Petoskey; four siters, Mrs. Mary Snyder, Caledonia; Mrs. Malinda Noggle, Cameron, MO; Mrs. Bell Schileh, Middleville, Mich.; Sarah Clemens, Portland, Ore; and nine grandchildren.

On Dec. 12, 1923, he was united in marriage to Ella Weber. He leaves to mourn his departure his loving companion, 3 children (Fern-Mrs. Osiah Horst, Manheim, Ont.; Leeta-Mrs. Melvin Horst, West Montrose, Ont.; and Gladys, at home), also 4 grandchildren, 1 brother (Enos, West Montrose), 3 sisters (Mrs. Annie Ramer, Markham, Ont.; Laura-Mrs. Eden Cresssman, and Sevilla, both of St. Jacobs.), and a wide circle of relatives and friends. His death was caused by an attack of pneumonia and a stroke caused by an attack of pneumonia and a stroke. He was ordained to the office of deacon at Elmira, Ont., Dec. 15, 1929; five years later Nov. 11, 1934, he was ordained a minister; May 11, 1947, he was ordained a bishop. The funeral was held Jan. 19 at Dreisinger's Funeral Chapel, conducted by Moses Roth, followed by a service at the Floradale Church with O. D. Snider and J. B. Martin in charge. Interment was made in the adjoining church.

Reuben Dettwiler; two sisters, Sevilla Dettwiler and Annie Ramer; three brothers in infancy; three great-grandchildren; and son-in-law, Lloyd Martin. On Oct. 25, 1915, he was married to Barbara Snyder, who died on Dec. 12, 1977. Surviving are 6 children (Amanda, Magdalena, Anna- Mrs. Israel Bowman, Ada-Mrs. Almon Bauman, William, and Amzi), 13 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother and 3 sisters. He was a member of St. Jacobs Mennonite Church, where funeral services were held on Nov. 3, in charge of Richard Yordy; interment in St. Jacobs Mennonite Church Cemetery.

Wideman, Leah D., daughter of Amos H. and Mary Ann Brubaker, was born near Brutus, Mich., Aug. 20, 1884; passed away at her home in Sheridan, Oreg., Sept. 8, 1956, after an illness of about 7 months; aged 72 y. 19 d. Near the turn of the century, she with her parents, was among the pioneers who moved to the prairies of Alberta, Can. During her girlhood she was converted in evangelistic services conducted by the late Bro. S. F. Coffman. In 1902 she was united in marriage with Edwin H. Wideman, who survives. They spent a number of years on a homestead near Mayton, Alta., and in 1924 moved to Sheridan, Oreg., where she resided until death. To this union were born 2 sons and 6 daughters (Rachel-Mrs. Wesley Ellis, Mary-Mrs. Dan Lauber, Oscar, Anne-Mrs. Willard Byers, Lena-Mrs. Amos Hostetler, Ethel, and Irene, all of Sheridan, Oreg., and Walter, of Grants Pass, Oreg.). Also surviving are 19 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 4 sisters, one brother, and a host of other relatives and friends. Two sisters, one brother, and 3 grandchildren preceded her in death. On the death of her brother Joseph, she filled a mother's place in the life of his children. Funeral services were held at the Sheridan Mennonite Church, Sept.11, in charge of D. F. Shenk, Raymond Mishler, and G. D. Shenk, with interment in the Sheridan Mennonite Cemetery.
