    She was the daughter of the late Isaac and Polly Petchen. She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Baden and in the past had been a member of the LCW.

    Beloved wife of Gordon Newmaster; dear father of Janet and her husband Art Palmer of Listowel, Jean and her husband Lorne Ander chek of Ottawa, Shirley and her husband Ted Sivyer of Kitchener. Survived also by two brothers, John and Fred, both of Kitchener and three sisters, Pearl (Mrs. Ervin Knarr) of Waterloo, Mrs. Susan Such of Kitchener and Vera (Mrs. Alfred Detzler) of RR 1, Cambridge. Fondly remembered by six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Predeceased by one brother, Henry.

    Friends and relatives may call at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron St., New Hamburg after 7 p.m. this evening and until Monday at noon, when transfer will be made to St. James Lutheran Church, Baden, where the service will be held at 2 p.m. Interment to follow in St. Peter's Lutheran Church cemetery, Linwood..

Dear mother of Helen McKie of Kitchener and Betty Hogg and her husband Robert of Cambridge. Lovingly remembered by 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Predeceased by her parents, Isaac and Pauline Bettschen; three sons, Joe, Jim and Tom; one daughter, Marjorie; one grandchild; one great-grandchild; four brothers, John, Fred, Henry and George and three sisters, Pearl, Susie and Margaret. Mrs. Detzler was born in Dashwood, Ontario and had been a lifelong resident of the area.     PRESTON - Thomas John nine-year old son of Mr. and Mrs, Alfred Detzler, of Blair and formerly of Preston, died at the Sick Children's Hospital, Toronto, early today. The youth had been confined to hospital for the past 10 days, having undergone an operation. Born in Preston, Thomas had resided with his parents in Blair, where he attended school. Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs, Alfred Detzler, two brothers, a twin brother, James and a brother, Joseph; three sisters, Helen, Betty and Marjorie, all at home; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Detzler, RR 2, Hespeler and a grandmother, Mrs. Bettschen, St. Thomas. The body is resting at the Stager-Pass Ltd. Funeral Home, where the funeral will be held on Sunday at 2 o'clock with interment in the Preston Cemetery. Rev. R. T. Appleyard of St. John's Anglican Church will officiate.

    By DAVE RIDER Toronto Sun Saying he was "just fed up" with life in Cambridge, Jim Detzler struck east to Toronto where he could meet other gay men and indulge his twin passions of sewing and cooking.

    After some 30 years and a term in jail - where he was known as cross-dressing "Gracie" and met his accused murderer \emdash the 54-year-old was found drowned and beaten late Friday in another man's bathtub.

    Police say he was killed late Wednesday in an apartment off Jarvis St. "This (murder) just shocked me," Detzler's brother-in-law, Don Orton, said yesterday from Cambridge, where the slain man's mother, brother and two sisters still live.

    "About 30 years ago, Jim moved to Toronto where nobody knew him. He was just fed up with things here and wanted to be on his own," Orton said, adding his homosexuality was no secret.

    Liked to sew and cook

    "He loved the big city. He had friends down there where he was a seamstress and he cooked." Steven Todd Craig, 26, released on federal parole only three weeks ago, is charged with first-degree murder.

    A lawyer called police with directions to the body of Detzler, an epileptic living on a disability pension in a Sherbourne St. apartment.

    The pair met in Kingston Penitentiary and became lovers, said a former jailmate who spoke on condition of anonymity.

    Acted like a woman Detzler, average height and stocky, was released about a year and a half ago after serving a five-year sentence for a non-fatal stabbing during a fight, said the ex-inmate.

    He affected the mannerisms of a woman, was known to guards and other inmates as "Gracie," and spent much of his time behind bars sewing, said the ex-inmate and a Corrections Canada source.

    "He wasn't a violent guy.

    "He didn't deserve to go that way, no matter what," said the ex-inmate, who bumped into Detzler on the street after his release.

    Orton said early yesterday he hadn't reached his wife to tell her about her brother's fate. She is in Florida visiting Disney World with their 13-year-old grandson who has deadly leukemia \emdash on a trip provided by the Make A Child Smile foundation.
