    PRESTON, April 4 - Aftermath of a heart attack, which necessitated his removal to hospital Sunday, John Sykes, well-known Preston resident, died at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener, today at the age of 83 years. Surviving are his wife, the former Jane Clough, two daughters, Mrs. A. Mercer of Rochester, N.Y. and Mrs. Peter J. Nickoloff, of Anchorage, Alaska and one son, Benjamin Sykes of Preston.

    Sykes, Samuel Private, Enlisted with the 80th Battalion of Napanee and transferred to 73rd Battalion and later to 42nd Battalion. He was twenty years old in April 1918 and the son of Mr. and Mrs. W.J. Sykes of Preston, Ontario. He was wounded at Vimy Ridge April 9, 1917 and on August 28, 1918 he was killed in action.

    SYKES, Benjamin

    Of 742 Duke St., Preston (Cambridge), Sunday, Jan. 6, 1974, at the South Waterloo Memorial Hospital, Benjamin Sykes, beloved husband of Minnie Fink and dear father of Samuel and John of Kitchener, in his 74th year; Mr. Sykes was born in Yorkshire, England. He came to Preston in 1911. He was a contractor, member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church and a life member of the Preston Masonic Lodge. He is also survived by two sisters; Vinnie (Mrs. Peter Nickoloff) of Washington, Sarah (Mrs. A. Mercer) of Rochester, N.Y. and four grandchildren. Mr. Sykes is resting at the Barthel-Stager Funeral Home, corner of Queen and Argyle Streets, Cambridge (Preston), where funeral services will be conducted, Tuesday, January 8, at 2 p.m. Cremation.
