    Some Auto Crash
    A. Nelson, Almost Instantly Killed and I. Martin Dies on Way to Hospital Following The Crash
TRUCK CAREENS OFF ROAD AND CRASHED INTO POLE
Contents of Load Catapulted From Force of Impact Into Nearby Fields a Distance of Fifty Feet and More
Elmira was deeply shocked to hear of the fatal accident near Baden on Tuesday Afternoon when Alexander Nelson, 39, was almost instantly killed and Ivan Martin, 43, died shortly after the track in which they were riding sideswiped a car, careened into the ditch and crashed a distance of fifty feet into a hydro pole.
Mr. Martin, who owns a produce store in Elmira, together with his driver, Alex Nelson, left Elmira as Tuesday afternoon for Stratford with a truckload of cream, chickens and produce. On their way they approached the intersection of highway 7 and 8 and the Wellesley highway. Jacob Heinz, driving a car back from Baden, where he had cast his vote in the provincial election, was proceeding west. Coming to the intersection, he stopped his car on the right hand side of the road to allow traffic to pass before making a left turn, it is stated. He told the police he signaled, but seeing no traffic he turned slowly. Just then the truck with the Elmira men and driven by Nelson, it is stated, came along and after striking the turning car bolted across the intersection and crashed off the road into the ditch and the hydro pole. The truck was badly damaged.
Motorists who passed some time after the accident rushed to the aid of the men in the truck. With difficulty they extricated the body of Nelson from the wreckage and found he was dead. Coroner Feick, who examined the body, stated his neck had been broken. A. Langley truck rushed Mr. Martin to the K.-W. Hospital in a dying condition. He passed away before the truck reached the hospital.
Crates of chickens and cream cans catapulted into adjoining fields for a distance of 50 feet and more from the force of the impact. Chickens, eggs and cream were strewn along the highway. None of the chickens were killed although five crates of them were hurled through the air into the ditch. A man from the Canadian Swift Co., of Stratford, identified the bodies of the men. He took charge of the load and had it removed to Stratford.
The Coroner has announced that an inquest will be held a week from today (Thursday). It is stated no charge is likely to be placed against Heinz, the drive of the car which the truck hit.
Mr. Nelson had been working only several months with Mr. Martin, having been out of employment for a number of years. Mr. Martin went into a local polling station and cast his vote just before leaving on the trip, The Signet was informed.
The truck and contents were both insured, with the Miller Insurance Agency, having been placed on both several days ago. The truck was owned by Mr. Alex Nelson, who purchased it only recently.
