Christian Wagler.

One half mile west of Baden is the home of this well known farmer. The residence is a substantial stone structure erected in 1857 The vicinity abounds in a great variety of fruit trees and ornamental shrubbery. The village of Baden is in plain view and the rural scenery round about is of pleasing aspect. The farm contains two hundred acres of fertile land. Mr. Wagler was born in Alsace, then under the dominion of the French Government, in 1838. He came to this country in 1848 when he was about ten years of age. His parents settled upon the farm now owned by the Livingstones He has been identified with farming all his life, and to-day can be numbered among the most successful and proeperous farmers of Wilmot township. At that time the old homstead was purchased for $3,000 and eighteen years thereafter was sold for $14 000 Mr. Wagler was married in 1861 to Magdelena, daughter of the venerable Joseph Zehr. They had seven children, six of whom are still living.

The farm was originally purchased in 1848 by his father-in-law, who with his aged wife live upon the premises and who erected the house. Mr. Wagler produces thousands of bushels of grain annually and is a successful breeder of live stock, bis favorite breed being the Holsteins, and anyone who visits his farm to-day will admit that he has a number of magnificent animals, his herd of milch cows being particularly worthy of notice. He has fourteen now in hand. "Margetta, "one of the first importations of this breed into Canada, has a noble record as a milk producer and a breeder. She is now seventeen years old, but is still a profitable animal. The price paid for her was five hundred dollars, and one of her first progeny sold for three hundred dollars. When in her prime she produced from sixty-five to seventy pounds of milk per day."Susie Cassel," also a fine animal and a great milk producer, has produced some fine stock, one of which recently sold for ninety dollars as a calf. The calves and young cattle of this herd are all splendid animals, showing fine breeding, carefull handling and good feeding. Mr. Wagler is also a successful breeder of swine, and has at present six Berkshire brood Bows, some of which would undoubtedly be formidable competitors for first premiums at any agricultural exhibition. In fact none of the animals on this farm would bear unfavorable conparison with those of the same strains brought to our county shows. The person who visits the premises will not be disappointed and will fine cordial hospitality.

In apartments of the old homestead, set apart for their own special use, reside the venerable father-in-law, Joseph Zehr, and his wife. Here in comfort they are passing the declining years of their lives. Mr. Zehr was born in Lorraine, Germany, in 1817, being now in the 81st year of his age. He came to America with his parents when he was only six years of age. For about a year the family lived in Pennsylvania, after which they removed to St. Jacobs in Woolwich township. In 1848 he settled upon the firm where he now lives. At one time he owned 840 acres of land in this section. His long life has been one of constant toil, and to-day in the twilight of life he is never idle during working days, except when his attention is absorbed by a friendly visitor. When not attending to some duties in the field he is occupied at the work-bench manufacturing a contrivance of his own invention for unwinding yarn from the skein. It is a very useful bousehold article and is put together as neatly as it can be done by the most expert mechanic. He speaks good English and possesses a retentive memory. Mrs. Zehr is now in the 79th year of her age, and like her husband has been a hard worker all her life. She is yet active and able to perform her household duties without experiencing much fatigue. She has adhered strictly to the mother tongue and is unable to converse in English.

On this farm there are unmistakable evidences of rich deposits of iron. A large lump selected from among others of like description turned up by the plow contains quite a large per cent. of pure iron. There is no telling what an excavation deep down into the bosom of mother earth might reveal here. In the not far distant future a great iron industry may find development in this very locality. More unlikely benefits for man have unexpectedly come to to light in the nineteenth century and no plainer indications were visible than we have right here.

I am informed that right in the midst of the village of Baden itself there are plain signs of iron deposits. Such indications in localities within three-quarters of a mile of each other should arcuse an inclination on the part of the citizens to ascertain the extent of this metal deposit that might prove to be a bonanza and in the course of time create Baden the Manchester of Ontario.

It is with deep sorrow that we have to report the death of Mr. Jacob Wagler, who died on Tuesday, the 5^th inst. at 5 o'clock in the morning. The funeral took place on Thursday morning at 9, and was well attended. Mr. Wagler was the first Amish settler in this community and was a man highly respected by all who came in contact with him. Many a weary traveller found shelter under his roof and he always was kind to them. No doubt he will be much missed. The sympathy of the community goes out to the bereaved family in this their sad affliction.

DEATH OF BISHOP WAGLER.

Mr. Jacob Wagler, Bishop of the Amish Mennonite church, died at his home on the fifth line on Tuesday morning. He had been ill but a few days and was in Wellesley village within a week or so. He was in his 62nd year and was apparently a healthy man until attacked by pneumonia a few days ago. He has lived in this section a very long time and enjoyed the highest esteem of all with whom he came in contact. For nearly 20 years he has been a bishop in his church and was a powerful speaker. His remains are to be interred at 9 o'clock this (Thursday morning.)

John W. Wagler In the death of John W. Wagler which occurred at the home of his son, Mr. Chr. Wagler, in South Easthope on March 31st another of the old pioneers of this district has passed to the Great Beyond. The late Mr. Wagler reached the advanced age of 89 years, 4 months and 7 days. He was born In Elsace Lorraine on November 24th, 1842. In the year 1848 his parents migrated to America and the family settled on the farm at Baden now owned by Mr. J. P Livingston. The family crossed the ocean in the old sailing ships and it was five weeks that these pioneers were on the water when they reach New York from Havre. In his youth the late Mr. Wagler pledged his religious faith in the church of his forefathers, the Amish-Mennonites, in which faith he worshipped as a true Christian all his life. He married Anna Zehr, of Wilmot, and with her lived in the holy bonds of matrimony for 63 years. Their union was blessed with seven children, six of whom survive. After his marriage the deceased farmed for some years near New Dundee and later settled in South Easthope. He retired from active work in 1905 and he and his wife had since made their home with their son, Mr. Christian Wagler in South Easthope. Besides his widow he leaves five sons and one daughter, 29 grandchildren and 42 great grand-children. The surviving members of the family are Moses and Noah, of the Gravel Road, Chris and Joseph in South Easthope, John of Wellesley village, and Mrs. Nich. D. Roth, of Clarence, N.Y. The funeral was held to the Amish Mennonite Church on the 16th line East Zorra and a very large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends attended to pay their last tribute of respect to the departed. The funeral services were conducted by Bishop Daniel S. Jutzi, of East Zorra, assisted by Chris. Gascho, of Baden, and Daniel Lebold, of Wellesley. Interment was made in the adjoining cemetery.

On Jan. 25, 1886, she was united in marriage with Christian S. Zehr. To this union was born 1 son (Aaron W.). She leaves her bereaved husband, an aged mother, 1 son, 1 foster daughter (Mary - Mrs. Moses Erb), 2 grandchildren (Mary and Harold Zehr) 3 sisters (Mary - Mrs. Jonathan Jantzi, Barbara-Mrs. Christian B. Jantzi, Katie - Mrs. Joe K. Schwartzentruber), 3 brothers (Aaron, Isaac, - Simeon, who preceded her to the great beyond), besides many other relatives and friends. In her young years she gave her heart to Jesus, united with the Amish Mennonite church, and stood in her faith to the end. She will be greatly missed in her home, neighborhood, and Church in which her voice was always heard among the rest while singing. She was a loving companion, a kind mother, and her kindness was not only shown to her immediate family but her home was always open to strangers. On Wednesday, May 30, 1928, she took a paralytic stroke from which she never recovered. Funeral services were held June 27 at the home by Bro. Christian Gascho and at the church by Brethren Chris. Schultz, Daniel Steinman, and Daniel Lebold.

WILMOT CENTRE Mrs. Christian B.. Jantzi, 85, of RR 2. Petersburg, died at her, home last night. She had been ill for four months.

The former Barbara Wagler, she was born in Wilmot township, July 6, 1869, a daughter of the late Christian Wagler and Magdalene Zehr. Her husband predeceased her in 1939. She was a member of Steinman Amish Mennonite Church, near Baden. Surviving are two sons, Allan, at home; Aaron W., Wellesley; a daughter, Mrs. C. E. (Mary) Schwartzentruber, RR 2. Petersburg; a sister, Mrs. Jonathan (Mary) Jantzi, Kitchener; 11 grandchildren and 17 great- grandchildren.

The body is at the Futher- Omand Funeral Home, New Hamburg, until 3 p.m. today when removal will be made to the residence where a short serv- ice will be conducted Monday at 1:30 p.m. It will be followed by a memorial service at Steinman Church at 2:15 p.m. Interment will be in Wilmot Centre Cemetery. Bishop Orland Gingerich will officiate.

BADEN, Aug. 14. - The death occurred at St. Agatha yesterday of Isaac Wagler, 75 The deceased was born in Wilmot Township, Jan. 18, 1872. His death followed a lingering illness. He was a son of the late Christian and Magdalene Wagler.

Surviving are his widow, Catherine Litwiller; two sons, Elmer of New Hamburg, Ervin of St. Agatha: 3 eight daughters Mrs. Noah (Victoria) Boshart, Baden, Mrs. John (Ida) Dietz, Waterloo, Mrs. John (Katie) Leis. New Hamburg. Mrs. Elmer (Mattie) Schwartzentruber, Baden, Mrs. Eli (Sarah) Zehr, St. Agatha. Mrs. Erie (Vera) Schulz, Kitchener, Mrs. Ervin (Verna) Zehr, Milver- ton, Mrs. Jonas (Laura) Wagler, St. Agatha; two sisters, Mrs. Jonathan Jantzi, Kitchener, and Mrs. C. B. Jantzi, Pine Hill. Thirty-nine grand- children and two great grandchildren survive. Two sisters, two brothers and two grandchildren predeceased him.

A service will be held at the home of his son-in-law, Eli Zehr. St. Agatha at 2:00p.m., Saturday. A public service will be held at the St. Agatha A.M. Church. Interment will be made in St. Agatha A.M Cemetery. Rev. Benjamin Gingerich will officiate.

Wellesley - Michael Wagler, 97, of Wellesley died Saturday at his home.

Born in Wellesley Township, Dec. 30, 1862, he farmed in the township until retiring in 1934. He was a son of the late Jacob Wagler and Magdalena Gordner.

He was a member of Cedar Grove Amish Mennonite church.

His wife, the former Magdalena Schultz, died in 1934.

Survivors include one son, John Wellesley, five daughters, Mrs. Daniel (Barbara) Lichty of Wellesley, Mrs. Ezra (Elizabeth) Leis and Mrs. Jacob Z. (Nancy) Lichty of Wellesley, Mrs. David (Magdalena) Gascho and Mrs. Joseph (Catherine) Lichty of Millbank; one brother, David of Wellesley Township; 28 grandchildren and 50 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

The body is at his home in Wellesley where the funeral will be conducted Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. Memorial service will be held in the church at 2:15 p.m. Bishop Samuel Roth will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

July 9. Michael Wagler, 98, was born on a farm (owned in 1960 by David Wagler) on the fifth line of Wellesley Township. When the Wagler family of the Amish-Mennonite faith came to Canada from Alsace, they brought Bibles which had been printed in their mother tongue, German, at the time of Dr. Martin Luther. The late Mr. Michael Wagler and his brother David, became the possessors of the Bibles. One, owned by the late Michael Wagler, contained an early exposition written by Martin Luther. Each time one visited the late Mr. Wagler and enjoyed seeing his treasured volume under his direction, it was the owner's graciousness and humility which gave the visit its greatest value.C. Noah Wagler

Ill for the past year, Noah Wagler, age 61, died at his home near Wellesley. He was born in the Fifth line of Wellesley Township. He attended Lichti's Amish-Mennonite Church, Third line of Wellesley.

Surviving are his wife, three sons, and three daughters, namely, Samuel, Fifth line, Wellesley; Christian of Wilmot Township; Allan, Lydia, Clara, at home, and Mrs. Ezra Erb, Millbank; also four brothers and two sisters, Michael, Wellesley; David, Fifth line of Wellesley; Daniel, North Easthope, and John, Toronto; Mrs. John R. Gerber, Wellesley; Mrs. Joseph R. Gerber, Fifth line of Wellesley; also seven grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Saturday at 9.30 a.m., from the residence to Lichti Amish-Mennonite Church, Third Line of Wellesley, for public service. Interment was in the adjoining cemetery. Bishop Jacob Lichti was in charge.

Wagler, John Z., son of John and Annie (Zehr) Wagler, was born in Perth Co., Ont., June 10, 1879; died at the Brunner Rest Home, Sept. 16, 1970; aged 91 y. 8 m. 6 d. On Nov. 4, 1900, he was married to Catherine Streicher, who died on May 4, 1961. Surviving are one son (Rudy), one daughter (Lena), and one grandson. He was a member of the Maple View Church near Wellesley, Ont., where he was ordained deacon in 1923. Funeral services were held on Sept. 18, with Jacob Roes and Chris O. Erb officiating; interment in the adjoining cemetery.

John Z. Wagler

John Z. Wagler of Wellesley died September 16, at the Brunner Nursing Home after a lengthy illness. He was 92.

Born in East Zorra Township, he farmed in Wellesley Township until retiring to Wellesley in 1929. He lived at the nursing home for the past 7 ½ years and was a member of Maple View Mennonite Church.

He was predeceased by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Wagler; his wife, the former Catherine Streicher, who died in May, 1961, a son; five brothers; and a sister, and a grandchild.

Surviving are a son, Rudy of Wellesley; a daughter, Lena, a resident at the Brunner Nursing Home, and a grandchild.

The body rested at the Futher Brothers Funeral Home, Wellesley, until noon Friday when removal was made to the church for service at 2:30 p.m. Burial was in the church cemetery

Arnie was born 86 years ago in Mornington township, a son of the late Christian Herrfort and the former Barbara Albrecht.
Arnie is remembered by one sister, Mary Zehr of Tavistock and one sister-in-law, Lavina Herrfort of Millbank. He was predeceased by two brothers, Henry and Christian and one sister, Veronica Zehr. He was a dear uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Nicholas Herrfort

Nicholas Herrfort of lot 33. concession 15, Elma Township, brother of Solomon of Wellesley, died at his home on Saturday, November 30 at the age of 84.

A son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Herrfort, he was born July 20, 1884 in Wellesley Township. He farmed all his life until a year ago.

His wife, the former Mary Keupfer. predeceased him and he is survived by two sons. Solomon of Aylmer and Andrew at home: one daughter. Katy at home and his brother Solomon and five grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted at the residence last Tuesday, by Bishop Solomon S. Keupfer.

Interment followed in the 7th Line cemetery.

Born Oct. 19, 1890, on the fifth line of Wellesley, she was a daughter of the late Andrew Herrfort and Barbara Wagler. She was a member of the Amish Mennonite faith. Mr. Zehr's family will receive friends at the Edward R. Mrs. Christian E. Schwartzentruber, 72, of R.R. 2, Petersburg, died suddenly Sunday, April 17, at her home.

The former Mary Yantzi, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Christian B. Yantzi, she was born on November 11, 1893, in Wilmot Township, where she had lived all her life. She was a member of Steinman Mennonite Church, Wilmot Township.

Surviving are her husband; three sons, Paul, of New Hamburg; Earl, of R.R. 2, Petersburg, and Frank, of Toronto; two daughters, Mrs. Roy (Ruth) Schlegel, of R.R. 2, Petersburg, and Mrs. Delton (Helen) Boshart, of R.R. 2, Petersburg; two brothers, Aaron, of Wellesley, and Allan, of Baden; 21 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter, Glenda Dawn Schlegel.

The funeral service was held Wednesday afternoon at Steinman Mennonite Church. Rev. Elmer Schwartzentruber and Rev. Elmer Grove officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.

JANTZI, Aaron W. -- Passed away on Sunday, August 31, at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener.

He was born in Wilmot township 82 years ago. He was the founder of Wellesley brand apple butter and cider products. He also operated the Wellesley Lumber Mill from 1935 to 1944 and was the operator of the John Deere dealership in Wellesley.

He is survived by his wife, the former Sarah Leis and two sons, Lloyd and Ralph; two daughters, Mabel (Mrs. Andrew Steckly) and Norma (Mrs. Arthur Steckly), all of Wellesley; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Christian B. Jantzi and the former Barbara Wagler; also by one brother and one sister.

The late Mr. Jantzi is resting at the Futher Bros. Funeral Home in Wellesley until noon on Wednesday when removal will be made to Maple View Mennonite Church for a memorial service 2 p.m. Rev. Elmer Schwartzentruber will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Vera was predeceased by her son, Harold Schultz and granddaughter, Nadine Williard; sisters and brothers, Victoria (Noah) Boshart, Elmer (Lizzie) Wagler, Ida (John) Dietz, Catherine (John) Leis, Magdalena Schwartzentruber, Ervin (Orillia) Wagler, Verna (Ervin) Zehr, Laura (Jonas) Wagler and Simeon Wagler in infancy. Wagler, Mrs. Laura \endash On Monday, Feb. 22, 1993, at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener, Laura Wagler, of New Hamburg.

She was formerly of Parkhill and was born in Wilmot township 76 years ago, a daughter of the late Isaac and Catherine (nee Litwiller) Wagler. She had worked at Nithview Home prior to retirement and was a member of Steinmann Mennonite church, RR 2, Baden, where she was a member of the WMSC. Laura and Jonas were involved in Prison Ministries and were members and supporters of Truck Stop Evangelism Ministries.

Beloved wife of Jonas Wagler whom she married July 26, 1936. Loving mother of Myrtle and her husband Robert Davies of London, Ont., Elaine and her husband Abe Stouffer of Woodville, Delores and her husband Daniel Euler, Marylou and her husband Claude Phaneuf, all of Morinville, Alta. Lovingly remembered by nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mattie and her husband Pastor Elmer Schwartzentruber, Sarah (Mr. Eli Zehr), all of New Hamburg and Vera (Mrs. Eric Schulz) of Kitchener. Also missed by one sister-in-law, Mrs. Orillia Wagler of St. Agatha and one brother-in-law, Ervin Zehr of Tavistock.

Laura was predeceased by a number of brothers and sisers, Victoria (Mrs. Noah Boshart), Elmer Wagler, Ida (Mrs. John Dietz), Catherine (Mrs. John Leis), Elvin Wagler, Mrs. Verna (Ervin) Zehr and Simeon in infancy.

MILLBANK-Mrs. Joseph Lichty of Millbank died Sunday at Listowel Hospital. She was 78.

The former Catherine Wagler, she was born in Wellesley Township, Jan. 18, 1891, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Michael Wagler. She was a member of Riverdale Mennonite Church and of the church sewing circle.

Mrs. Lichty was predeceased by her husband in January, 1963, by two sisters and three brothers.

Surviving are two sons, David and Samuel of Millbank; two daughters, Mrs. Daniel (Nancy) Leis and Mrs. Aaron (Emma) Jantzi, both of RR 1, Millbank; one brother, John of Wellesley; three sisters, Mrs. Ezra (Elizabeth) Leis and Mrs. Jacob Z. MRS. DAVID GASCHO

Mrs. David Gascho, 69, of Millbank, died Sunday, June 11 at the Listowel Memorial Hospital.

The former Magdalena Wagler, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Michael Wagler and was born in Millbank.

She was a member of the Maple View Mennonite Church Wellesley.

She is survived by her husband; sons, Gerald of Millbank, Glenn of Wellesley; a daughter, Mrs. Norman Gerber of Millbank; a brother, John of Wellesley; sisters, Mrs. Ezra (Elizabeth) Leis and Mrs. Jacob (Nancy) Lichty, both of Wellesley, 10 grandchildren.

She was predeceased by three brothers and four sisters. The body rested at the family residence in Millbank until noon Tuesday when removal was made to the Maple View Mennonite Church for a service at 2: 30 p.m. Rev. Alvin Leis officiated. Burial was in church cemetery.

She was a member of the Cedar Grove Amish Mennonite Church. On Feb. 20, 1913, she was married to Christian R. Erb, who predeceased her Nov. 1, 1920. On Jan. 18, 1925, she was married to John S Nafziger who survives. Also surviving are one son, Dan W. Erb of Poole, Ont.; four daughters: Mrs. Sylvester (Annie) Martin of Linwood, Ont.; Mary, widow of the late Aaron Steckly of Wellesley, Ont.; Mrs. Christian E. (Katie) Gerber, Wellesley; and Mrs. Norman L. (Amy) Zehr, Brunner, Ont.; 19 grand-children; 35 great-grandchildren; one sister Mary, widow of the late Menno Brenneman. He was a member of Cedar Grove Amish Mennonite Church. Surviving are his father, John Jantzi, and his stepmother. His mother, the former Mattie Wagler, died in 1907. Also surviving are his wife, the former Katie Albrecht; one son, Alvin, Wellesley; one daughter, Susanna, at home; three brothers, Noah, of Bamberg, John and David of Wilmot Township; six sisters, Mrs. Christian (Barbara) Albrecht, of Vero Beach, Florida, Mrs. Jacob (Lydia) Albrecht, of Crosshill, Mrs. David (Katie) Nafziger, of R.R. 2, Milverton, Mrs. David (Mattie) Zehr of Crosshill, Mrs. David (Elizabeth) Roes and Mrs. Enoch (Sara) Horst, of Millbank. Five grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were held at his residence on Saturday morning followed by church service at 10 o'clock at the Cedar Grove Amish Mennonite Church. Interment was in the adjoining cemetery. Rev. Mose Nafziger officiated at the church and Rev. Samuel Roth, Wellesley, officiated at the house. The pallbearers were Ervin Nafziger, Clarence Miller Emanuel Albrecht, Aaron Jantzi, William Albrecht and David Jantzi. The funeral, which was one of the largest in the district, was attended with relatives and friends from Vero, Florida; Bay Port, Mich.; Buffalo, N.Y.; Kitchener, Baden, New Hamburg, Crosshill, Milverton and the surround district.

David W. Jantzi of RR 1, Wellesley, died today at his home after a brief illness. He was 63.

Born in Wilmot Township, Feb. 16, 1905, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Jantzi.

He was a member of Cedar Grove Amish Mennonite Church near Wellesley, and farmed in Wilmot Township before his retirement in 1961.

One brother and three sisters predeceased him.

Surviving are his wife, the former Annie Gerber, whom he married in Wellesley Township March 3, 1927; three daughters, Erma, Mrs. Ernest (Marion) Roth and Mrs. Emmanuel (Emma) Lichty, all of RR 1, Wellesley; two brothers, Noah of Wellesley and John of Crosshill; five sisters, Mrs. Christian (Barbara) Albrecht of Vero Beach, Fla., Mrs. Jacob (Lydia) Albrecht of RR 1, Millbank, Mrs. David (Mattie) Zehr of Crosshill, Mrs. David (Elizabeth) Rose of Millbank, and Mrs. Enoch (Sarah) Horst of Linwood; four grandchildren.

Beloved husband of Leah (Lebold) of Brunner Nursing Home. Dear brother of Christ Wagler of Nithview Home, New Hamburg, Allan and his wife Emma Wagler of Millbank, Matilda (Mrs. Ezra Erb) of Hillside Nursing Home, Sebringville and Lydia and her husband Lloyd Zehr of RR 1 Millbank.

He was predeceased by two sons, John and Irvin and also by one daughter in infancy; by one sister, Clara Wagler; a sister-in-law, Katie Wagler and a brother-in-law, Ezra Erb.

Visitation at the Futher Bros. Funeral Home, 40 Henry St., Wellesley, where the family will receive friends on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A family service will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday, July 22 at 1 p.m., followed by the funeral service at Cedar Grove Amish Mennonite Church at 2 p.m. John Zehr and Mahlon Gerber will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Roth.-John W., oldest son of Nick D. and Mary (Wagler) Roth, was born near Tavistock, Ont., Jan. 2, 1892; died Oct. 10, 1928; aged 36 y. 9 m. 8 d. He was married to Barbara S. Bender, Oct. 11, 1916. No children survive except an adopted daughter. He lived in Canada all his life and was never ill. He had united with the Amish Mennonite Church near East Zorra and remained a member till his death, which was sudden and a great shock to many. He was drawing his last load of gravel for the day when he was killed by a passenger train. Both arms and legs were severed and his skull was fractured. He was taken to the hospital but died a few minutes after the accident, without regaining consciousness. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife and daughter, parents who live at Clarence, N. Y., 4 brothers, 5 sisters, grandparents, and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at the home of his wife's parents by Daniel Steinman in German and Peter Nafziger in English. Burial took place in the East Zorra Cemetery. The funeral sermon was preached by his uncle, Daniel Yutzi.

She was born in North Easthope township 85 years ago. A daughter of the late Christian Z. Wagler and the former Fanny Schwartzentruber. She was a member of St. Agatha Mennonite Church, where she was a member of the WMSC and enjoyed quilting as a hobby.

Beloved wife of Allen Schwartzentruber who she married January 29, 1925. Lovingly remembered by three sons, Kenneth and his wife Grace of Campinas, S.P., Brazil, Vernon and his wife June of Kitchener, Leonard and his wife Delphine of RR 1, New Hamburg; one daughter-in-law, Eleanor (Mrs. Gerald Roth) of New Hamburg. Schwartzentruber, Mrs. Lavina - Passed away on Friday, September 5, 1997 at her residence, Nithview Home, New Hamburg. Lavina was born 90 years ago in South Easthope Township and was a daughter of the late Christian Z. Wagler and Veronica Schwartzentruber. She was a member of Steinman Mennonite Church, RR 2 Baden where she had also been a member of the WMSC.

Beloved wife of the late Solomon Schwartzentruber, who predeceased her in 1973. Dear mother of Nelson and his wife Irma, Elroy and his wife Alta, all of Waterloo, Harold and his wife Delores of RR 2 Baden and Grace and her husband Raymond Schwartzentruber of Tavistock. She is fondly remembered by 17 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Alice Wagler of Kitchener, Lauretta and her husband Louis Lichti of RR 1 Shakespeare; a brother Kenneth Wagler of Nile. Also remembered by two brothers-in-law Elmer Schwartzentruber and Lloyd and his wife Pearl Yantzi, all of New Hamburg.

Predeceased by two sisters, Elizabeth and her husband Allen Schwartzentruber and Mrs. Katie Yantzi. Friends and relatives may call at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron Street, New Hamburg on Sunday, September 7, 1997 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday, September 8,1997 at noon transfer will be made to Steinmann Mennonite Church. RR 2 Baden for the service at 2: 30 p.m. with Pastor Herb Schultz officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to Nithview Home, New Hamburg or the Mennonite Central Committee.

Yantzi, Catherine, daughter of Christian and Veronica (Schwartzentruber) Wagler, was born in Shakespeare, Ont., July 21, 1909; died at K/W Hospital, Kitchener, Ont., July 10, 1974; aged 64 y. On Nov. 21, 1945, she was married to Lloyd Yantzi, who survives. Also surviving are one daughter (Le Etta - Mrs. Dalton Erb), 3 grandsons, one brother (Kenneth), and 4 sisters (Elizabeth - Mrs. Allan Schwartzentruber, Lavina - Mrs. Solomon Schwartzentruber, Alice, and Loretta - Mrs. Louis Lichti), and her stepmother (Mrs. Barbara Wagler). She was a member of Hillcrest Mennonite Church, where funeral services were held on July 13, in charge of Henry Yantzi and Mahlon Bender; interment in East Zorra Mennonite Church Cemetery.

He was born in 1902 and was a retired truck driver for the Bridgeport Co-op.

Dear husband of Elizabeth Wagler of 108 Hincks St., New Hamburg; dear father of Emanuel of Niagara Falls, N.Y. and Christine, at home. A sister, Lena Wagler of Tavistock also survives. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Catherine Wagler; his first wife, Lovina Kennell; a son in infancy, twin grandsons in infancy and a brother John.

Resting at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron St., New Hamburg, after 7 p.m. this evening and until Saturday, when removal will be made to Riverdale Mennonite Church, Millbank, for service and committal at 2 p.m. with Rev. David Jantzi and Rev. Elmer Schwartzentruber officiating. Interment in First Mennonite Church cemetery, Kitchener.

As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Ontario Heart Foundation.

He was a member of Hillcrest Mennonite Church, New Hamburg, and a member of Transport for Christ. He is survived by his wife, Alice Magdalena Jutzi; one son, David James, all of Kitchener, and one daughter, Linda Lou of New Hamburg; and two granddaughters, Verniece and Michelle. He is also survived by his mother, Magdalena Wagler of Nithview Home, New Hamburg; four brothers, Henry of Route 1, Millbank, Ivan, Omar and Lorne all of Route 1, Shakespeare. He was predeceased by his father Noah Z. Wagler and one brother, Eldon.
