Litwiller.--John L., son of Peter Litwiller, was born near St. Agatha, Ont. Sept. 25, 1842; died at his home near St. Agatha, Aug. 27, 1927; aged 84 y. 11 m. 2 d. He was married to Catharine Jantzi and this union was blessed with 3 sons and 1 daughter, 2 sons preceded him in death. He leaves a sorrowing widow (aged 80), 1 son (Peter J.), and 1 daughter (Mrs. Isaac Wagler, with whom he was staying ever since he retired), 20 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. In his youth he united with the Amish Mennonite Church and remained a faithful member till the end. We need not weep as those who have no hope, as he waited so long for his Savior to take him home. Funeral services were conducted at the Amish Mennonite Church near St. Agatha, Aug. 31, by Daniel Jutzi, Jonas Litwiller and Daniel Steinman. Interment in the near by cemetery.

Mr. Litwiller, a farmer near St. Agatha, died on Sunday last from injuries received in that village a day or two before, when he fell from a stairway, breaking several ribs and perforating his lungs. He was a very highly respected resident.

Litwiller.--Chr. Litwiller was born in St. Agatha, Ont., Sept. 13, 1848; died of heart failure at his home in Petersburg, Ont., Aug. 27, 1924; aged 75 y. 11 m. 14 d. He had been in good health till about six months ago when he began to fail. Seven weeks before his death he had a desire to go to church and said, "It will be the last time" (which it also was), and after that he thought he wasn't able to go any more. He gradually got weaker and was bedfast for only five days. Bro. Litwiller united with the Amish Church when yet a young man. He was ordained to the office of deacon when yet in his twenties, and in the same year was ordained to the ministry, which place he filled whenever possible. He was married to Maria Miller, who preceded him in death three years on the day that he was buried. He leaves 7 children (Barbara, Jacob, Annie, wife of M. O. Jantzi, Samuel, Mary, wife of Jac. Mussselman, Lydia, wife of Irvon Block, and David). He also leaves 32 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters, and 1 brother. We believe that father has gone to be with Jesus. May we all prepare our hearts to meet him. He was buried on Aug. 30. Funeral services were conducted at the house by Daniel Steinman and at the church by Dan Jutzi and Eli Frey. Text. "For what is your life?" Buried in adjoining cemetery. "Weep not for me, children, I have passed all grief and pain: But live and labor for Christ the Savior, That we may meet in heaven again." Mayer.-- John L. Mayer was born in Waterloo Co., Ont., Oct. 15, 1858; died at his home near Pigeon, Mich., Mar. 18 1931; aged 72 y. 5 m. 3 d. On Dec. 4, 1883, he was united in marriage to Mary Jutzi. He leaves his beloved companion, 2 daughters (Mrs. Benjamin Gingerich and Lydia), 2 sons (Ezra and Solomon), 1 brother, an aged aunt and a host of other relatives and friends. A daughter preceded him in death about thirteen years ago. He accepted Christ as his personal Savior in his youth and united with the Amish Mennonite Church of which he was a faithful member to his death. He had been ailing for a number of years. In the summer of 1930 he had a hard attack of influenza, at which time he expressed a great desire to go home and be with the Lord. He had a vision of the glorious crown, but was unable to express the wonderful beauty of it as he saw it. He was able to leave home only once since that time and since his sickness he often expressed himself as being homesick for heaven. Funeral services were held March 21 at the Pigeon River Church by Bros. M. S. Zehr in German ( text, Rom. 6:23) and Edwin Albrecht in English (text, Num. 23:10). The body was laid to rest in the cemetery nearby.

"In 1913, Baden area farmer Peter L. Moyer was 52 years old. He had been married since 1888 to Mary Anna Reeve and was a member of the Steinmann Amish Mennonite church. Moyer was dissatisfied, in fact, very dissatisfied with church arrangements. Sunday services alternated between Steinmann's and St. Agatha Amish Mennonite church (a.k.a. Lichti's church). Steinmann's was on Snyder's Road, well west of Baden, almost at Nafziger Road: Lichti's was on Erb's Road just west of St. Agatha. Today, it's hardly a five-minute drive. Put yourself at the Moyer farm in winter 1912. Many second Sundays he had to horse-and-buggy his family and friends for an hour over unplowed roads to Lichti's.

Moyer's solution? Build and pay for a simple frame church building on a small property in Baden and make it a fellowship hall, open to all denominations. Under various names and overseers, it served for almost nine decades. By the 1990s, Wilmot Mennonite Fellowship Hall was primarily a rental facility for community groups although a small congregation, West Hills Mennonite Fellowship, held Sunday services. On April 14, 2000, fire destroyed the building. Arson, whether accidental or purposeful, was the initial assumption but no one was ever charged."

Schultz. - John L. Schultz was born near Petersburg, Ont., Jan. 25, 1859. On May 3, 1934, early in the morning, by chance with a truck he left at the home of his son-in-law and daughter in Wellesley, (where he was residing the last few years), for Shakespeare, about 15 miles from the home, to see a doctor for some minor ailments. Just before entering the house of the doctor he dropped down and in a few minutes expired; aged 75 y. 3 m. 9 d. He was married to Catherine Boshart in 1878, who preceded him June 7, 1925. To this union were born 2 sons and 4 daughters. One son died in infancy. There remain Moses of Baden, Ont.; Mattie (Mrs. Moses Leis) of Wellesley, Ont., where he was residing; Katie, Lizzie (Mrs. Bingaman) of Kitchener, Ont.; Anne (Mrs. Dan Schlabach), Guernsey, Sask. He had a sister who died a number of years ago, who was the mother of Bro. Amos Swartzentruber, missionary in S. America. In his youth he was baptized and received into the Amish Mennonite Church, by his grandfather, the later Peter Litwiller, bishop then of the Wilmot Church, who was the great-grandfather of Bro. Nelson Litwiller, also of S. America, and was faithful to the end. Funeral services May 6, by Bro. Dan Lebold at the home and at the Wilmot church by Bro. Chris Gascho, and Bro. Dan Jutzi. Litwiller. - Peter J. Litwiller was born in Wilmot Twp., Ont., April 7, 1869; died Sept. 3, 1930; aged 61 y. 4 m. 27 d. In his youth he accepted Christ as his Savior and remained faithful to the end. On Dec. 3, 1889, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Schwartzendruber, who survives him, with 3 sons, 1 daughter, 4 grandchildren, his aged mother, and 1 sister. On Jan. 11, 1925, he was ordained to the office of deacon in the Wilmot A. M. church , in which office he served diligently, being greatly concerned about the welfare of the church to the end. He was in failing health for the last few years but was about as usual until Sunday evening Aug. 31 when he suddenly took very sick and suffered greatly until Monday evening when he was operated on for a ruptured stomach. He had a great desire to once more see all his children which God granted him, and he gave each of them a parting message. His own testimony was that all was well with his soul. He then peacefully fell asleep Wednesday night, Sept. 3. His father, 2 brothers, and 2 grandchildren preceded him in death. Funeral services were conducted by Bros. Peter Nafziger, Jonas Snider, Daniel Steinman at the St. Agatha A. M. Church. Burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Peter J. Litwlller

The death occurred at his home near Petersburg on Wednesday, September 4^th, of Mr. Peter J. Litwiller at the age of 61 years, 4 months and 27 days. He had been in ill health for some time but was only confined to bed for a few day's prior to his demise. The deceased was born at St. Agatha, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Litwiller and spent his whole life in Wilmot Township. He was a devoted adherent of the Amish Mennonite faith and was esteemed and beloved by all who knew him. For the past twenty-five years he farmed near Petersburg and retired last spring from active work. He leaves in bereavement his widow who before her marriage was Elizabeth Schwartzentruber, besides three sons and one daughter namely, Noah, of St. Agatha, Elmer, Petersburg, William, Lowville, N. Y., (Elmeda) Mrs. Henry Baechler, Pigeon. Mich. The funeral will take place Saturday at 1 p.m. to the St. Agatha A.-M. Church and cemetery.

John R. Litwiller

As a result of a heart attack, Mr. John R. Litwiller passed away last Friday night, April 10, at his home in Petersburg at the age of 70 years, 5 months and 18 days. The deceased was a lifelong resident of Wilmot Township and was well known and highly esteemed. He was a faithful member of the St. Agatha Amish-Mennonite Church. The deceased farmed for about 36 years and two years ago retired and moved to Petersburg.

The deceased was married to Magdalena Schwartzentruber, who survives him, besides two sons, Herbert of Waterloo and Clayton, of Southwest Wilmot and three daughters, (Gertrude) Mrs. Ben Herner, at home, (Ida) Mrs. Norman Gascho, Petersburg, and (Alice) Mrs. Reuben Bender, of New Hamburg. He is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Aaron Wagler, Baden, and Miss Katie Litwiller, St. Agatha, and eleven grandchildren.

The funeral was held on Tuesday afternoon from his late home to the St. Agatha A.-M. Church for service, followed by interment in the adjoining cemetery. The services were conducted by Rev. Peter Nafziger of St. Agatha and Rev. Moses O. Jantzi of Baden. A large concourse of sorrowing friends and relatives attended the funeral.

Schwartzentruber. - Elizabeth (Litwiller) Schwartzentruber, beloved wife of Jacob Schwartzentruber, was born near St. Agatha, Ont., April 12, 1873; died at the same place March 31, 1929; aged 55 y. 11 m. 18 d. She was united in marriage to Jacob Schwartzentruber, Feb. 21, 1893. To this union were born three children. She is survived by her bereaved husband, 2 sons, and 1 daughter (Moses, Rachel, wife of Milton Litwiller, and Clarence). She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 2 brothers, 2 sisters, and a host of other relatives and friends. She united with the A. M. Church in her youth and remained a faithful member until death. The immediate cause of her death was apoplexy. She passed away unexpectedly after an illness of three days, being unconscious all but the first three hours. She was a kind and loving wife and mother, always willing to help others. We feel our loss sadly, but we know that our Father doeth all things well. Death of Christian Litwiller

Death came very suddenly to an esteemed resident of New Hamburg late on Monday evening, when Mr. Christian R. Litwiller passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Milton Leis, near Mannheim. Mr. Litwiller had been working at Wellesley during the day and went to his daughter's home for the night. He had his supper and retired about 10 o'clock apparently in his usual robust health but shortly thereafter was seized with a heart attack and passed away before medical aid could be summoned. The deceased was born near St. Agatha and spent his whole life in this community. For the past twelve years he was a resident of this town. He was aged 56 years, 9 months and 13 days. He leaves his wife, who before her marriage was Katharine Kropf of St. Agatha, besides his daughter, Mrs. Leis and four sons, Edward of New Hamburg, Ivan of Hamilton, and Rudy and John of Lancaster, N.Y. He is also survived by one brother, John Litwiller of Wilmot, and two sisters, Mrs. Aaron Wagler, of Baden, and Miss Catharine Litwiller, of St. Agatha. The funeral was held from his late home here yesterday forenoon with service in the Amish-Mennonite Church, near Baden, followed by interment in the A.-M. Cemetery. The funeral service was conducted by Bishop Daniel Steinman and was attended by a large circle of relatives and friends.

BADEN, Oct. 29. Mrs. Leah Wagler, R.R. 1, Baden, died yesterday. Death followed a lingering illness.

She was born in 1879, at St Agatha, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Litwiller.

The deceased woman attended Steinman A.M. Church. In 1898 she married Aaron Wagler at St. Agatha. He predeceased her in 1936.

There are three sons, Allen, and Eldon at home, and Milton of Baden. Two daughters, Miss Elmina, Wagler and Mrs. Harvey (Edna) Wagler of Wellesley also survive. There is a sister. Miss Katie Litwiller of St. Agatha.

There are also 10 grandchildren. A public funeral service will be held from the late residence at 2.15p.m. Burial will be at Steinman Cemetery with Bishop Moses O. Jantzi officiating.

The body is resting at the late residence.

Boshart.-Nancy, daughter of the late Menno and Elisabeth (Litwiller) Schultz, was born on April 26, 1867, in Perth Co., Ont.; died April 26, 1936; aged 69 years. After a lingering illness for over four years off and on of cancer, about a year and a half ago she was operated on which at first seemed to be a success but the dreadful malady developed again. Three weeks previous to her death she had inflammation of the veins and a paralytic stroke, all caused by the disease. She fell peacefully asleep in Jesus and went to her long desired home early in the morning of her birthday. She was married to Pre. Peter Boshart, Oct. 4, 1892. To this union were born 3 sons and 1 daughter. She leaves to mourn her departure, her sorrowing husband, her children (Emanuel, Ezra, Salome (Mrs. Menno O. Erb), and Samuel, all of this community) and 9 grandchildren. She was the first to break the family circle. She also leaves 4 brothers, 1 sister, many friends and relatives. After marriage they moved on the farm where they lived until 9 years ago when he retired from farming and lived at Baden 5 years till sickness made it necessary to move back to the farm to live with their son Ezra till the time of departure. Funeral was held April 29. Services at the home were conducted by Christian R. Brunk and at the Poole Amish Mennonite Church by Daniel S. Jutzi, Oscar Burkholder, and Christian Gascho. Interment in the adjoining cemetery.

Schultz, Samuel L., son of Menno and Elizabeth (Litwiller) Schultz, was born in Perth Co., Ont., Feb. 26, 1883; died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Sam N. Schultz, June 14, 1966; aged 83 y. 3 m. 19 d. On Jan. 18, 1910, he was married to Annie Leis, who died Jan. 22, 1964. Surviving are one daughter (Beatrice - Mrs. Sam N. Schultz), 4 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. Seven brothers and 3 sisters predeceased him. He was ordained as a minister at Maple View, near Wellesley, Ont., on June 5, 1938, and served as bishop from Dec. 21, 1941, to October 14, 1956. He also served as moderator of the Ontario A.M. Conference. Funeral services were conducted at the Maple View Chuch, June 17, by Chris O. Erb, Chris Streicher, and Alvin Leis.

Mapleview Mennonite Bishop Dies

WELLESLEY\emdash Bishop Samuel L. Schultz, 83, retired pastor of Mapleview Mennonite Church, died suddenly Monday at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel N. Schultz, RR 2, Wellesley.
Son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Menno Schultz, he was born in North Easthope Township, Feb. 26, 1883.
He had farmed in Wellesley Township, retiring in 1951.
He was ordained a minister June 5, 1938, and a bishop Dec. 21, 1941. He retired as bishop Oct. 14, 1956.
He was moderator of the Western Ontario Mennonite Conference for a number of years.
He was predeceased by his wife, the former Annie Leif, in 1964, and by seven brothers and three sisters.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Samuel N. (Beatrice) Schultz, Kingwood (RR 2, Wellesley); four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The body will be at the Futher Brothers Funeral Home, Wellesley, until 10 a.m. Wednesday when removal will be made to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel N. Schultz of Kingwood.
The body will be at the Schultz, home until 11 a.m. Friday when removal will be made to Mapleview Mennonite Church for a funeral service at 2:30 p.m.
Burial will be in Mapleview Mennonite cemetery.
Donations to the Western Ontario Mennonite Mission Board will be accepted as expressions of sympathy.

Litwiller. - Jacob Litwiller was born near St. Agatha, Ont., March 7, 1874; aged 54 y. 2 m. 26 d. On Sept. 22, 1896 he was married to Rachael Jantzi. This union was blessed with 7 children. He leaves his widow, an adopted daughter (Eleanor), Nelson and Edna (Mrs. A. Swartzendruber - missionaries in South America), Reuben, Milton, Ella, Delton, 7 grandchildren, 2 brothers, and four sisters. He was confined to his bed for about five weeks. Death was due to complications, but his main sickness was bacterial endacarditis. During his illness he spent many wakeful nights, meditating with God, and during unconscious hours his talk was always of spiritual matters. He was a lover of song, and during his days of sickness he asked all those present to sing for him; leaving a blessed assurance of the eternal hope. In his younger years he united with the Amish Mennonite Church of which he was a faithful member until death. Father's place in our home can never be filled. His kind disposition commanded all to love him and the loss of his counsel is heavy to us. Funeral services June 6 at the house by Christian Gascho, and at the A. M. Church near St. Agatha, by C. F. Derstine, Oscar Burkholder, and Peter Nofziger. Interment in the adjoining cemetery.

Mr. Jacob Litwiller of St. Agatha passed away Saturday at his home, In his 54th year after an illness of several months' duration. He was a prominent farmer for many years and a member of the St. Agatha Amish Mennonite Church. The late Mr. Litwiller had spent his entire life on his farm near the village. He Is survived by his wife, three daughters, Ella and Eleanor at home, Edna (Mrs. Amos Schwartzentruber) a missionary in South America, and five sons, Nelson, a missionary in South America, Milton or St. Agatha, Reuben of Wind sorf and Delton and Orie at home.

The funeral was held on Wednes day afternoon from his residence to the St. Agatha Amish Mennonite Church. Interment was made in the adjoining cemetery.

Litwiller. - Moses Litwiller, son of Christian and Maria Litwiller, was born in St. Agatha, Waterloo Co., Ont., July 1, 1876 and died in Petersburg, Ont., Sept. 24, 1916; aged 40 y. 2 m. 24 d. He was married to Lydia Brenneman about 15 years ago. To this union were born 6 sons.
Bro. Litwiller accepted Christ when a young man and united with the A. M. Church, and was faithful until the end. He was sick only three weeks. First he had enlargement of the heart, after which he got pneumonia. We thought he was getting better, then gangrene set in.
Bro. Litwiller expressed hope in the home beyond and desired the services of the Word and prayer and the singing during his days of sufferings. We can hardly understand why he was taken. We miss him so much. We have lost him. Heaven has found him, and we know that everything God does is well done. May we all take comfort in the thought that he now rests in the Savior.
He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, 6 sons, parents, 3 brothers, and 5 sisters; also many relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at the St. Agatha A. M. Church on Tuesday, Sept. 25, conducted by Bros. Chr. Kropf of Tavistock and Eli Frey of Archbold, O. Text, II Tim. 4: 7, 8, and Isa. 38, last clause of first verse. "Set thine house in order, for thou shalt die and not live." Interment in cemetery near by.

MRS. MOSES O. JANTZI

Mrs. Moses O. Jantzi, 89, of New Hamburg, formerly of Baden, died January 24 at the Bender home in New Hamburg after a lengthy illness.

The former Annie Litwiller, she was born Aug. 4, 1878 at St. Agatha, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Christian Litwiller and was a member of the Steinman Mennonite Church.

She was predeceased by her husband Bishop Moses O. Jantzi in 1965.

Surviving are one son, Clinton of Kitchener; one daughter, Mrs. William (Beatrice) Lichty, Baden; 11 grandchildren and 17 greatgrandchildren. One daughter predeceased her in 1967.

The service was held Saturday afternoon at Steinman Mennonite Church. Rev. Albert Zehr officiated, assisted by Rev. Elmer Schwartzentruber. Temporary entombment was made at Graff Chapel, Riverside Cemetery, Nov Hamburg. Burial will take place later in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Mary Musselman, 59 William St. West, Waterloo, died yesterday at the K-W Hospital. She was 70. A native of St. Agatha, she was a member of Erb St. Mennonite Church, Waterloo. In 1920, she married Jacob Musselman, who predeceased her in 1945. Surviving are three sons, Leslie and Edgar of Preston and Eldon of Detroit; two daughters, Mrs. Ira (Ermina) Bauman of Elmira and Mrs. Cleason (Elsie) Martin of Waterloo; two brothers, Samuel Litwiller, London and David Litwiller of Preston; one sister, Mrs. Moses O. Jantzi, Baden; 11 grandchildren and eight grandchildren. The body is at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home. The funeral will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Erb St. Mennonite Church with Rev. J. B. Salzmann. - Sister Veronica Litwiller, beloved wife of Joseph Salzmann, was born July 13, 1885; died of heart trouble May 25, 1920; aged 34 y. 10 m. 13 d. She was united in matrimony to Joseph Salzmann Oct. 17, 1908, which union was blessed with 5 children (Gladys, Sanford, Florin, and Clifford) - one died in infancy. She leaves husband, 4 children, parents, 3 brothers, 4 sisters and many relatives and friends. She united with the A. M. Church when in her teens and remained faithful to the end. We can hardly realize that she is gone, but we believe that our loss is her eternal gain. The community feels that they have lost the earthly presence of a sister and friend and that the number was enlarged in heaven. Two days before her death she called her daughter to her bed side and selected the hymns for her funeral. Funeral services were held at the A. M. Church near St. Agatha, conducted by Peter Boshart and Moses Shantz, using for the text, "Set thine house in order for thou shall die and not live". May God comfort the bereaved ones.

Veronica Litwiller

The sad death occurred at her home in St. Agatha on Tuesday of Veronica Litwiller, beloved wife of Mr. Joseph Salzman, in her 34^th year She had been ill only a day with heart trouble and her untimely death will be mourned by a wide circle of friends. The funeral was held on Thursday afternoon to the Amish Mennonite church pod cemetery at St. Agatha.

Her mother, father, a sister and 2 brothers preceded her to the Great Beyond. Funeral services were held March 19, at the Waterloo Mennonite Church of which she was a member, conducted by Bros. J. B. David Litwiller of Preston, a public school teacher for 40 years and well-known throughout this district, died Sunday at Hamilton General Hospital following an illness of four months. He was 64. Mr. Litwiller was born March 4, 1895, in Wilmot Township near St. Agatha, a son of the late Rev. and Mrs. Christian Litwiller. He taught at Perry's Corner, New Dundee, and for 24 years was principal of Pine Grove Public School near Preston. He retired about two years ago. He was a member of Alma Street United Brethren Church, Kitchener.

Surviving are his wife, the former Nellie Hilborn whom he married in 1927 at New Dundee; one son, David of Waterloo; one daughter, Mrs. Henry (June) Buchholz of Rochester, Ind.; one sister, Mrs. Moses Jantzi of Baden and four grandchildren. Three brothers and four sisters predeceased him. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon with service at the Alma Street United Brethren Church, Kitchener, Rev. Ward Woolner officiated and burial was in Woodland Cemetery.

Death of Joseph L. Ramseyer

A prominent and well known resident of this community passed away early on Tuesday morning when Mr. Joseph L. Ramseyer was called by death at the age of 58 years. He had been seriously ill for some weeks and the news of his death, though expected, caused deep grief among a large number of friends. The deceased was a son of the late Peter Ramseyer and resided on the farm all his life. He was a kindly and friendly neighbor and his cheerful spirit made him a host of friends. He was a devout christian throughout his life's career and took art active part in all matters pertaining to his church. There are left in deep bereavement his sorrowing widow, who before her marriage was Mary Roth, and a family of ten children. The children are: Jeremiah, William and Edna, of Kitchener, (Ada) Mrs. Nelson Litwiller, Missionary at Pehuajo, Argentine Republic, South America, and Aaron, Mahlon, Anna May, Armand, Reta and Dorcas at home. One daughter, Nancy, died about three years ago in India where she held a missionary post, and another daughter died several years ago at the age of seven years. The funeral was held yesterday afternoon from his late home to the Pentecostal Tabernacle at Kitchener where the funeral service was held after which the earthy remains of the departed were laid to rest in Woodland Cemetery. The funeral was attended by a large circle of sorrowing relatives and friends. The sympathy of the whole community is extended to the bereaved ones in their sad loss.

Chris Erb, 82, Died June 29 At Hospital

Services were conducted today, Thursday at 2 p. m. at the Mennonite church in Beemer for Chris Erb 82, Beemer with Rev. Sam Oswald officiating. Interment will be at the Lake Region Cemetery at Detroit Lake, Minn. Friday morning.

Mr. Erb died June 29 at the Memorial hospital in West Point where he had been taken a week before. He had been in failing health since last fall.

Chris Eb, Beemer was born to Menno and Nattie Erb June 27, 1882 in Canada and as a youth came to the Cuming County area. He was married Febr. 13, 1907 to Barbara Oswald and lived near West Point until 1949 when they moved to Detroit Lakes, Minn. Mr. Erb moved back to Beemer in 1958 and has lived with his son, Wilford and family until three weeks before he died. He had just gone to stay with another son, Leonard at West Point. Mr. Erb was a member of the Mennonite church at Beemer.

Preceding him in death was a son, Menno in 1960 and his wife, Barbara in 1956.

Survivors are two sons, Wilford, Beemer and Leonard, West Point: 13 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Good Funeral Home, 171 King Street South, Waterloo, after noon on Sunday and until noon on Monday, then to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Queen Street, Kitchener, for the funeral and committal service at 2 p.m. (Monday). Rev. Roger Winger officiating. Spring interment to follow in St. Paul's Lutheran cemetery, Wellesley.

In his youth he accepted Christ as his Saviour and became a member of the Maple View Amish Mennonite Church near Wellesley, remaining a faithful member until death. On June 18, 1924, he was united in marriage to Minetta Kennel, of the same congregation. On July 9, 1944, he was ordained to the ministry in this congregation, in which he labored faithfully until death. Surviving are his bereaved companion, one son (Arlan, at home), 5 brothers (Moses, Daniel, Christian, and Norman, all of Wellesley Twp.; and David, of Wilmot Twp.) and 2 sisters (Magdlena-Mrs. Allan Gingerich and Katherine-Mrs. Daniel Steinman, both of Wilmot Twp.). He passed away while at his desk preparing a sermon. Funeral services were conducted at the home by Valentine Nafziger and at the Maple View Church by Peter Nafziger and Earl J. Maust. Burial was made in the adjoining cemetery.

BISHOP ERB, Wellesley, dies at 70

Wellesley - Bishop Christian O. Erb, of 19 David St., Wellesley, of the Maple View Mennonite Church here, died today at Stratford Hospital after a brief illness. He was 70. He was ordained bishop of the church Aug. 27, 1967, after being deacon from April 27, 1952, to April 24, 1960, when he was ordained a minister. Born in Wellesley Township, Oct. 5, 1900, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John L. Erb. Besides his church work, he farmed on the Third line of the township until retiring in April 1963. One brother and one sister predeceased him. Surviving are his wife, the former Emma Gingerich whom he married Oct. 28, 1925, in Wilmot Township; four brothers, Moses of Wellesley, Daniel of Kitchener, David of RR 2, Petersburg, and Norman of RR 2, Wellesley, and one sister, Mrs. Allen (Mattie) Gingerich of Baden. The body will be at the Erb home from 2 p.m. Thursday until Saturday at 11 a.m. when removal will be made to the church for a service at 2 p.m. Rev. Alvin Leis and Rev. Jacob Rose will officiate. Burial will be in the Maple View Mennonite cemetery. Contributions to the Western Ontario Mennonite Mission Board will be accepted as expressions of sympathy.

CHRISTIAN R. ERB

Christian R. Erb, 61, of Millbank, died at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener, on Tuesday morning, December 6^th. In failing health for some time he had been hospitalized for almost two weeks. A son of the late Peter Erb and Mary Ropp he was born at Kingswood on March 30^th, 1899, On December 2^nd , 1920, he married Madaline Gerber at West Branch, Michigan. Following their marriage he farmed at Millbank and also had a contracting business. He was a member of Riverdale Mennonite Church, a superintendent of the Sunday School for some time and a Sunday School teacher until his illness. Surviving besides his wife are three sons, Earl of Milverton; Rev. She was born in Wellesley Township 81 years ago, the former Nancy Erb; surviving are her husband, Daniel of Wellesley; four sons, Elmer of Waterloo, Emerson of Route 1, Tavistock, Floyd of Route 1, Breslau, and Leonard of Conestogo; five daughters, Vera (Mrs. Harold Wismer) of Wellesley, Edna (Mrs. Laverne Zehr) of Bright, Betty (Mrs. Gerald Steffler) of Waterloo, Dorothy (Mrs. Alvin Martin) of Waterloo, Erma (Mrs. Lyle Coverett) of California; one brother, Edward Erb of Tobermory; three sisters, Sarah (Mrs. Daniel Billar) of Petersburg, Elizabeth (Mrs. Elkannah Kennell) of Wellesley and Mary (Mrs. Alvin Steinman) of Petersburg.

Erb. - William O. Erb, son of Christian L. and Elizabeth Erb, was born in Wellesley, Ont., Oct. 11, 1898; passed away Dec. 11, 1928; aged 30 y. 2 m. He came to Michigan in 1918. On Dec. 14, 1921, he was united in marriage to Alice Wideman. To this union was born one daughter, Anna Mae. He leaves his sorrowing wife, daughter, father, mother, 2 brothers, 6 sisters, and many other relatives and friends. He had been failing in health for the last two years, but his case was not thought serious until the last few weeks of his life. He gave himself fully into the hands of the Lord and said, "Thy will be done." In 1913 he accepted his Lord and united with the Maple View A. M. Church, Wellesley, Ont. When he came to Michigan he united with the Berne Mennonite Church and remained faithful until the end. He will be greatly missed at church services, for he was always present when health permitted. Funeral services were held at the Berne Mennonite Church on Dec. 14 by Bros. Chris Schrag, Zurich, Ont., and S. J. Miller. Text, Heb. 9: 27. Interment in the Mennonite Cemetery.

Lovingly remembered by 14 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.

Predeceased by her husband, Ezra, November 1, 1968; by one son, Ralph, 1983; one granddaughter, Carol Steckly, 1984; one great granddaughter, Ginger, 1982; five brothers and five sisters.

Leis, Samuel E., son of Daniel and Magdalene (Erb) Leis, was born in Wellesley Twp., Ont., Oct. 30, 1891; died at his home near Kingwood, Jan. 23, 1963; aged 71 y. 2 m. 24 d. On Feb. 1, 1917, he was married to Elizabeth Schultz, who survives. Also surviving are one son (Clarence), 4 grandchildren, 3 brothers and one sister (Christian, Peter, Ezra and Sarah-Mrs. Aaron W. Jantzi). On June 5, 1938, he was ordained as minister at Maple View A.M. Church, and served at Maple View and also at Crosshill. He also served on the Winter Bible School Board of the Ontario A.M. Conference, 1941-54, and took an active part in the teaching program of the summer Bible school. He served as a member of the executive com-mittee and was treasurer of the Ontario A.M. NEW HAMBURG-Mrs. Daniel Lichti, 61, of Jacob St., New Hamburg, died Tuesday at St. Mary's Hospital after a four-day illness.

She was born in Wellesley Township, April 30, 1899. The former Lavina Schwartzentruber, daughter of the late Daniel Schwartzentruber and the former Barbara Erb, she lived in New Hamburg since 1944. She was a member of the Steinman Amish Mennonite Church.

She was married to Daniel Lichti June 21, 1923, who survives as well as one daughter, Mrs. Arthur (Jean) Roth of New Hamburg, two brothers, Christian and Allan, both of Petersburg and one grandchild.

The body is at the Futher-Omand Funeral Home, New Hamburg until Friday noon when removal will be made to the Steinman Church for a memorial service at 2 p.m. Burial will be in the St. Agatha Amish Mennonite Cemetery. Bishop Orland Gingerich will officiate.

Schwartzentruber, Allen -On Tuesday, Oct. 1, 1991, at his residence, Nithview Home, New Hamburg. He was formerly of RR 2, Petersburg.

He was born in Wilmot township 88 years ago, a son of the late Daniel Schwartzentruber and the former Barbara Erb. Allen was a member of St. Agatha Mennonite Church where he had been a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He and his wife Elizabeth had served in Voluntary Service in Michigan and Mississippi for a period of time. He had been a member of Wilmot Centre Senior Citizens.

Beloved husband of Elizabeth Schwartzentruber who predeceased him July 22, 1990. Lovingly remembered by three sons, Kenneth and his wife Grace of Campinas, Sao Paulo, Brazil, Vernon and his wife June of Kitchener, Leonard and his wife Delphine of RR 1, New Hamburg; one daughter-in-law, Eleanor (Mrs. Gerald Roth) of New Hamburg; 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Allen was predeceased by one son, Lyle; one great-granddaughter; one brother, Christian and one sister, Mrs. Lavina (Dan) Lichti.
Friends and relatives may call at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron St., New Hamburg, after 7 p.m. today (Wednesday) and until Friday at noon, when transfer will be made to St. Agatha Mennonite Church for the service at 2: 30 p.m., with Pastor Steve Gerber officiating. On Jan. 17, 1915, he was married to Clara Jantzi, who predeceased him July 12, 1917. On June 23, 1920, he was married to Edna Litwiller, who survives. Also surviving are one son (A. Orley), 2 daughters (Doris - Mrs. Lauren Wispe and Anita - Mrs. Raul Garcia), 2 brothers (John and Emanuel), one sister (Mrs. Jeremiah Ramseyer), and 9 grandchildren. Following his ordination to the Christian ministry in 1924, Amos and Edna sailed for South America, having been appointed by the Mennonite Board of Missions to serve in Argentina. In July, 1934, he was ordained to the office of bishop to serve congregations in Argentina. After 40 years of service, the Schwartzentrubers retired in 1963 and took up residence in Kitchener. Funeral services were held at Steinman's Church, with Orland Gingerich and Paul Erb officiating; interment in St. Agatha Mennonite Cemetery.

Rev. Amos Swartzentruber 72, of 24 Cameron St. N., died today at St. Mary's Hospital following a lengthy illness.

A resident of Kitchener for the past 30 months, he served as a missionary for the Mennonite board of missions and charities in Argentina for 40 years, retiring in November, 1963.

Mr. Swartzentruber was born at Petersburg, Sept. 2, 1893, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Swartzentruber.

He was a member of Steinman Mennonite Church, Baden. His marriage to the former Edna Litwiller, who survives, took place at St. Agatha June 23, 1920.

Surviving besides his wife are one son, Rev. A. Orley Swartzentruber, Albany, N.Y.; two daughters, Mrs. Lauren (Doris) Wispe, Bethesda, Md., and Mrs. Raul (Anita) Garcia, Pehuajo, Argentina; two brothers, John, Bridgeport and Emanuel, Kitchener; one sister, Mrs. Jeremiah Ramseyer, Kitchener and nine grandchildren.

The body is at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home until noon Sunday when removal will be made to Steinman Mennonite Church, Baden, for service at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Orland Gingerich will officiate. Interment will be in St. Agatha Mennonite cemetery.

Schultz. - Catherine, daughter of John L. and Catherine (Boshart) Schultz was born May 4, 1885; died Oct. 19, 1937 of a lingering illness, at the home of her brother-in-law (Moses Leis), Wellesley, Ont. She was converted very young and lived a Christian life. She served her Lord with gladness. She found much joy and pleasure in being good to others. She was of a cheerful disposition, which won for many friends. She will be missed in the community, in the church, but most of all in the home where she was a kind companion to one who loved her dearly. Her mother and father preceded her in death. There remain 3 sisters and 1 brother (Mrs. Dan Schlabach, Guernsey, Sask.; Mrs. Moses Leis, Wellesley; Mrs. David Bingeman, Mose Schultz, Baden, Ont.). Funeral services were held at the St. Agatha Mennonite Church, in charge of Bros. D. Lebold and M. O. Jantzi. Interment in adjoining cemetery. A large number of relatives and friends gathered to pay a last tribute of respect to one they held in high esteem. Schlabach. - Annie, daughter of John L. and Catherine Schultz, was born March 29, 1888; died Sept. 11, 1941, at the Manitou Hospital, Waltrous, Sask.; aged 53 y. 5 m. 13 d. Her passing came very unexpectedly, being well. After a major operation she lived only 7 days, her heart not being able to withstand the shock. She had a similar operation 13 years ago and one 10 years ago. On Feb. 26, 1913, she was married to Dan Schlabach, after which they made their home in Saskatchewan. To this union were born 4 sons and 1 baby girl, 6 weeks old, was adopted in 1933. She accepted Christ as her personal Saviour when 18 years old, and served her Lord until death. While she was not a public worker, she was very much concerned about the safety of the ungodly, often expressing her wish that God will give them time to get right with Him. A little over a year ago she, with her husband, was ordained to the ministry to have charge of the Sharon Mennonite Church near Guernsey, Sask. She labored faithfully by her husband's side, visiting the sick, concerned about the poor, and donating many flowers to the aged and friends. She leaves to mourn: her husband, 4 sons, 1 daughter, 1 brother, and 2 sisters. Her parents and 1 brother preceded her to glory. Funeral services were held at the Sharon Mennonite Church, conducted by Bros. J. B. Stauffer of Tofield, Alta., and Edwin Bartel, Drake, Sask. The body was taken to Baden, Ont., to the home where she was born, raised, and married - now the home of Bro. and Sister Dave Holst. Funeral services were held at St. Agatha A. M. Church where she was baptized 35 years ago, in charge of Bros. M. H. Schmitt, formerly of Guernsey who ordained her, and M. O. Jantzi.

In the year 1946 he suffered a stroke and remained an invalid for 9 years. Three days prior to his death he suffered another stoke from which he never recovered. On Nov. 24, 1909, he married Lydia Bender, who preceded him in death on Aug. 1, 1940. He is survived by his daughter (Lily Mae-Mrs. Henry Yantzi, of Eat Zorra), 2 sons (Serenus, of East Zorra, and Corson, of New Hamburg), 16 grandchildren, 2 brothers (Joseph and Peter of Petersburg), and 2 sisters (Mrs. Jacob R. LITWILLER, Mrs. Salome
On Sunday, March 3, 1991, at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener, Salome Litwiller, of RR 2, Petersburg.
She was born in Wilmot township 95 years ago, a daughter of the late John Gascho and the former Mary Schultz. She was a member of the Steinmann Mennonite Church, RR 2, Baden, where she was a member of the WMSC. She enjoyed needlework and quilting. She was a lifelong resident of Wilmot township. She was the last surviving member of her family.
Beloved wife of Elmer, Litwiller who predeceased her September 13, 1984. Lovingly remembered by one son, Earl and his wife Mary of RR 2, Petersburg. Dear grandmother of Duane Litwiller and his wife Susan of RR 2, Petersburg, Sheryl and her husband Albert Crabbe of Baden. Fondly remembered by five great-grandchildren, Gregory and Kara Litwiller, Jacqueline, Victoria and Suzanne Crabbe and four sisters-in-law, Mrs. Mabel (Daniel) Gascho of Kitchener, Mrs. Ida (Norman) Gascho of New Hamburg, Mrs. Louise (William) Litwiller of Lowville, N.Y. and Elmeda and her husband Henry Bechler of Pigeon, Mich.
She was predeceased by her brothers, Daniel and Norman Gascho and her sisters, Nancy (Mrs. Michael Roth) and Leah (Mrs. Simeon Jutzi).
Friends and relatives may call at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron St., New Hamburg, after 7 p.m. this evening (Monday), until Wednesday at noon, when transfer will be made to the Steinmann Mennonite Church for the service at 2 p.m., with Pastor Fred Lichti and Pastor Elmer Schwartzentruber officiating. Spring interment in the adjoining church cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the Gospel Echo Prison Ministry or the Mennonite Central Committee.

On Friday, Feb. 3, 1984, at the Bluewater Rest Home, Zurich, Mr. Noah Jantzi, aged 88 years. He was born in Wilmot township, and was formerly of the Baden area prior to moving to Zurich. He was a member of the Steinman Mennonite Church, RR 2, Baden.

Dear son of the late John B. Jantzi and the former Nancy Schultz; beloved husband of the former Magdalene (Mattie) Jutzi whom he married December 12, 1917; lovingly remembered by his son Laverne and his wife Myrtle of Levittown, Pa.; his daughter Wilma and her husband Albert Erb of RR 2, Zurich. Sadly missed by five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Predeceased by one daughter, Clarine, in infancy; two brothers, David and William; one sister, Clara (Mrs. Amos Schwartzentruber).

Funeral was held Feb. 6 at Steinman Mennonite Church with Rev. Fred Lichti and Rev. Clayton Kuepfer officiating, Interment in the church cemetery.

William S. Jantzi of 97 William St., S., Wellesley died on Tuesday of last week at the age of 70.

Born in Wilmot Township, a son, of the late Mr. and Mrs. John B. Jantzi, he was a mechanic and carpenter for A. W. Jantzi and Sons machine shop for 24 years.

Mr. Jantzi was a member of the Maple View Mennonite Church, Wellesley.

Surviving besides his wife, the former Edith Leis, whom he married in Wellesley on June 23, 1931, is one brother, Noah of Baden.

He was predeceased by one brother and one sister.

Services were held Friday at Maple View Mennonite Church with burial taking place in the adjoining church cemetery.

Futher Funeral Home, Wellesley, was in charge of arrangements.

She was born 101 years ago in Elkton, Michigan and was the daughter of the late Noah and Elizabeth (Schultz) Rosenberger. Ida retired from teaching Home Economics in Huron County and ending in Saginaw, Michigan. She was a member of Bethel Evangelical Missionary Church, New Dundee and was a faithful supporter of the Missionary church in Michigan and Ontario. Ida is lovingly remembered by her brother Veron (Dorothy) Rosenberger of Surprise, Arizona; her sister Orpha Meyer of Kitchener. Noah Litwiller

Noah Litwiller of RR 2, Petersburg died Saturday at St. Mary's Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was 78.

Born May 8, 1891 in Wilmot Township, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Peter Litwiller and had lived in the Twin City area all his life. He farmed near St. Agatha for many years. In 1946 he joined the Interior Hardwood Co. Ltd. and retired in 1960. He was a member of St. Agatha Mennonite Church.

Surviving are his wife, the former Lydia Boshart, whom he married in 1914 in Wilmot Township; two sons, Oliver and Harold both of Waterloo; one daughter, Mrs. Mahlon (Ruth) Yantzi, RR 2, Petersburg; two brothers, Elmer, RR 2, Petersburg, and William, Lowville, N.Y.; one sister, Mrs. Henry (Elmeda) Bechler, Elkton, Mich., and 12 grandchildren.

Funeral service was held Tuesday at St. Agatha Mennonite Church, Rev. Gerald Schwartzentruber officiating.

Burial took place in the adjoining church cemetery.

The body is at the Futher Bros. Funeral Home until noon Wednesday when removal will be made to St. Agatha Mennonite Church for service at 3 p.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Also remembered by 11 grandchildren; two sisters, Sarah Zehr and Vera Schulz, both of New Hamburg; brother-in-law, Ervin Zehr of Tavistock and two sisters-in-law, Orillia Wagler of Kitchener and Lavina Swartzentruber of New Hamburg.
Mattie was predeceased by two grandchildren; three brothers, Elmer, Ervin, Simeon and five sisters, Victoria Boshart, Ida Dietz, Catherine Leis, Verna Zehr and Laura Wagler.

Wagler, Mrs. Laura \endash On Monday, Feb. 22, 1993, at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener, Laura Wagler, of New Hamburg.

She was formerly of Parkhill and was born in Wilmot township 76 years ago, a daughter of the late Isaac and Catherine (nee Litwiller) Wagler. She had worked at Nithview Home prior to retirement and was a member of Steinmann Mennonite church, RR 2, Baden, where she was a member of the WMSC. Laura and Jonas were involved in Prison Ministries and were members and supporters of Truck Stop Evangelism Ministries.

Beloved wife of Jonas Wagler whom she married July 26, 1936. Loving mother of Myrtle and her husband Robert Davies of London, Ont., Elaine and her husband Abe Stouffer of Woodville, Delores and her husband Daniel Euler, Marylou and her husband Claude Phaneuf, all of Morinville, Alta. Lovingly remembered by nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mattie and her husband Pastor Elmer Schwartzentruber, Sarah (Mr. Eli Zehr), all of New Hamburg and Vera (Mrs. Eric Schulz) of Kitchener. Also missed by one sister-in-law, Mrs. Orillia Wagler of St. Agatha and one brother-in-law, Ervin Zehr of Tavistock.

Laura was predeceased by a number of brothers and sisers, Victoria (Mrs. Noah Boshart), Elmer Wagler, Ida (Mrs. John Dietz), Catherine (Mrs. John Leis), Elvin Wagler, Mrs. Verna (Ervin) Zehr and Simeon in infancy.

HERNER, Mrs. Gertrude On Wednesday, January 4, 1978, at Freeport Hospital, Kitchener, Gertrude Herner, of 225 Huron St., New Hamburg, aged 80 years. Wife of the late Benjamin Herner. She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Norman (Ida) Gascho and Mrs. Reuben (Alice) Bender, both of New Hamburg. She was predeceased by one daughter in infancy, her parents the late John Litwiller and the former Magdalena Schwartzentruber and two brothers, Herbert and Clayton Litwiller. The late Mrs. Herner will be resting at the Omand-Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron St., New Hamburg, where friends will be received by the family after 7 p.m. this evening and until noon Saturday, January 7, when removal will be made to the St. Agatha Mennonite Church where funeral service and committal will be conducted at 2 p.m. with Rev. Nelson Martin officiating. Spring interment in St. Agatha Mennonite Church cemetery.
