    Mrs. Jane Swan

    The death occurred at the home of her son-in-law, Thomas Marshall, Roseville, on Saturday of Mrs. Jane Swan of Ayr in her 81st year. She was born in Scotland and came to Canada with her family when about two years old. The family first settled in a log cabin which stood at the end of Wm. G. Hall's lane, and later removed to a farm north of the village. Mrs. Swan attended the Reidsville school which was at that time situated on the farm now occupied by Menno Shantz. She was married 60 years ago and with her husband resided on the 10th and 5th concessions of Blenheim for many years. They removed to Ayr 45 years ago, where her husband predeceased her in 1908. She was a member of Knox United Church. Mrs. Swan is survived by the following family: Mrs. John Falland, Clinton; Mrs. Thomas Marshall, Roseville; Mrs. Isabella Veitch, Galt; George and James Swan, Ayr. The funeral took place to Ayr Cemetery on Tuesday.

    Death of Mrs. Falland - Passing of Third Member of Swan Family in Less than Three Years - On Wednesday, April 21st, for the second time within a month and the third time in less than two and one-half years, death visited the family of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Swan, when Mrs. John Falland of Clinton, whose maiden name was Agnes Swan, passed away suddenly in her sleep as the result of a heart attack. Deceased, who was in her 64th year, was born on the 10th concession of Blenheim, and left Ayr about 40 years ago. After residing in Galt, Hamilton and Toronto, she had lived in Clinton for the past 17 years. She was predeceased by her sister, Mrs. Thomas Marshall, on Nov. 15th, 1934, and another sister, Mrs. Andrew Vietch, on the 26th March of this year. Besides her husband, she is survived by one son and three daughters; also by two brothers, James of Ayr and George of Chatham. The funeral took place on Friday afternoon from her late home in Clinton to the Ayr Cemetery, six members of the Lady True Blue Lodge, of which deceased was a member, acting as pallbearers at that point. The service at the graveside here was conducted by Rev. J. W. Currie, with J. C. Swan, George Swan, Moir Swan and George Swan, Jr., acting as pallbearers.

    Mrs. Thomas Marshall - The death occurred last Thursday at noon, at her home one mile east of Roseville, of Mrs. Thomas Marshall, in her 59th year. Mrs. Marshall had been in failing health for some time. She was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Swan of Ayr, and was born in Blenheim township. Mrs. Marshall was a faithful member of Doon Presbyterian Church, and she will be sadly missed in the church and community. Surviving are her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Harold S. Osborne of Toronto and Mrs. Lorne Debrusk of Blair; one son, George Rae Marshall of Hamilton; two sisters, Mrs. John Falland of Clinton and Mrs. Isabella Veitch of Roseville; two brothers, George and James Swan of Ayr, and three grandchildren. The funeral, which was largely attended, took place to the Ayr Cemetery on Saturday afternoon. Rev. Walter Patterson of Preston conducted the services, and the pallbearers were: R. Veitch, D. Lockie, J. Henderson, J. Perrin, J. Bruce and N. Kaiser. There were many beautiful floral tributes. Friends and relatives were present from Toronto, Hamilton, Preston, Kitchener, New Dundee, Blair and Ayr.

    Mrs. Isobel Veitch - Passes from Sudden Heart Attack In Her 59th Year - Death came suddenly on Thursday night to Isobel Swan, widow of the late Andrew Veitch, Roseville, from the effects of a heart attack. Mrs. Veitch, who was 58 years of age, was born on the 10th concession of Blenheim, and after her marriage resided near Roseville for a, number of years. Upon the death of her husband, she removed to Ayr, where she resided until a couple of years ago when she returned to Roseville to keep house for her brother-in-law, Thomas Marshall, following the death of her sister, Mrs. Marshall. Deceased was a member of Knox United Church and was possessed of a bright and kindly disposition which won her many friends. She is survived by two brothers and one sister, as follows: Mrs. John Fallan, Clinton; George Swan, Chatham, and James C. Swan, Ayr. The funeral, which was private, took place on Sunday afternoon from the home of her brother, James C. Swan, Ayr, to the Ayr Cemetery, with Rev. J. W. Carrie, pastor of Knox United Church, having charge of the services. The pallbearers were: G. H. Lawrence, G. S. Dalrymple, Thomas Marshall, Albert Shelby, Robert Veitch and Wm. G. Edgar. Friends and relatives were present from Hamilton, Toronto, Galt, Kitchener, Seaforth and Clinton.

    Member of Pioneer Family, George Swan, Sr., Passes

    A native of Ayr district and a lifelong resident of this community, George Swan, Sr., passed away ion K-W Hospital on Saturday morning in his 84th year. He had been hospitalized for two weeks, and was progressing favorably when he succumbed to a heart attack. The late Mr. Swan was born on the 10th concession of Blenheim on September 28, 1881, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Swan. At the age of five years he moved with the family to Manley St., Ayr. He entered Ayr Public School on the first day it opened, having previously attended classes in the church basement. Mr. Swan was a member of one of the early pioneer families here. His grandfather, also George Swan, came to Ayr in the 1830's from Quebec City, by way of Ancaster and built a home on Griffin's Hill on Swan St. The street bears his name. The late Mr. Swan was employed by the CPR for 37 years, retiring at the age of 65 after suffering a serious fall. He was a Presbyterian by faith and at one time sang in the choir of the former Presbyterian Church here. Mr. Swan was a valued member of Dolman Lodge, IOOF, and one of the prized possessions was a 50 year membership jewel which he received some years ago. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. G. Fluelling (Agnes) of Windsor and Mrs. R. Pelton (Isobel) of Port Credit, two sons, George of Galt and Moir of Ayr, a brother, James of Ayr, and eight grandchildren. His wife, the former Agnes Irwin, predeceased him in 1922.

    The Funeral

    An Oddfellow service was held at Coutts Funeral Home, Galt, on Sunday evening, attended by members of Dolman Lodge, Ayr, and Oddfellows from Galt. Murray F. Smith, Ayr, assisted in conducting the ceremony. Funeral service was held at the funeral home on Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Andrew Denholm of Paris. Entombment was made in Ayr Cemetery Chapel. Pallbearers were: C. F. Buck, Dr. I. H. Caulfield, Erb Clark and Jack Brown of Ayr, Balfour Johnston of Paris, and Lloyd Johnston of Galt.

    Mrs. DeBrusk was Dorm in Roseville and was a lifelong resident of the area. The family will receive friends at the Barthel Funeral Home, 566 Queenston Rd., Cambridge, this evening (Wednesday) from 7-9 p.m. and Thursday, May 12, 1994 for one hour prior to the funeral service at 1:30 p.m., with Rev. Gordon Griggs officiating. Interment in Blair Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario, would be greatly appreciated by the family.

    Death of Mrs. James Oliver - The death occurred in Ayr on Monday morning at 5 o'clock of Mrs. James O. Oliver, in her 25th year. She had been ailing for over a year, during which time she was given every care and attention, but all efforts to improve her condition ultimately met with failure. Deceased, whose maiden name was Jean B. Veitch, was born in Ayr, being the only child of Mrs. Veitch and the late Andrew Veitch. Of a bright and amiable disposition, she made many friends who will be much grieved to learn of her untimely demise. Deceased was a member of the Presbyterian Church and a former worker in several of the Young People's organizations of the village. She was married over three years ago to James O. Oliver, who, along with her mother, Mrs. Veitch, survives her. The sorrowing relatives will receive the sympathy of the entire community in their sad loss. The funeral took place yesterday afternoon to Ayr Cemetery and was largely attended. The services were in charge of Rev. J. W. Currie, pastor of Knox United Church, assisted by Rev. Mr. Waring, rector of Christ Church. The following acted as pallbearers, viz.: Messrs. Wallace Turnbull, Charles Ball, W. A. Prentice, Wesley Ennis, Erb Clark and Robt. Bain. The floral offerings were beautiful and numerous, giving mute testimony of the esteem in which deceased was held. Among those sending tributes were the Boy Scouts, I.O.O.F., W.A. Ramsay Co., A. A. A. A., Roseville Football Team, "Friends and Neighbors," and many others from friends and relatives.

    George Robert Swan

    Of 41 Elliott Street, Galt, a native of Ayr, passed away at Cambridge Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, June 14th. He was in his 76th year. Born in Ayr where he received his education, he was a son of the late George Swan and Agnes Irwin. He enlisted with the H.L.I. prior to World War II and saw action in Holland during the war. Following the war he took up residence in Galt and was employed for 40 years within the lumber business, with Reid Lumber, which later became New Life Lumber, in Galt. He retired seven years ago. Mr. Swan was a member of St. Ambrose R.C. Church and the H.L.I. Association. Beloved husband of Louise (Urbach) Swan and dear father of Sister Celeste S.S.N.D. of Grassy Narrows, Ontario, Peter and his wife Susanne of Cambridge and Margaret (Mrs. Patrick McGlynn) of Corbeil, Ontario. Also survived by four grandchildren Rebecca, Liam, Ryan and Jason. Predeceased by a brother, Moir and two sisters, Agnes Fluelling and Isabel Pelton. Resting at the Corbett Funeral Home, Galt. Mass of Christian Burial, was held from St. Ambrose R.C. Church, on Saturday, June 17th. Interment in Mount View Cemetery. Pallbearers were Paul Swan, Jason Swan, Murray Freiburger, Elwood Shaw, Peter McQueenie and Harry Merrall.

Mr. Swan was an adherent of the United Church, member of Ayr Masonic Lodge, and served on the former Ayr village council. Ten years ago he and his wife moved from Ayr to Kitchener. Beloved husband of Velma Johnston; dear father of Moir Paul of Summerside, P.E.I. and Sharon (Mrs. Robert Forde) of Kitchener; dear brother of George of Cambridge, Agnes (Mrs. Gordon Fluelling) of Windsor, Mrs. Isobel Pelton of Mississauga. Also survived by five grandchildren, Mr. Swan was predeceased by a son, Neil. Funeral service was held Saturday at Coutts and Son Funeral Home, Galt. Interment in Ayr Cemetery.

Jack was a longtime Postmaster in Ayr, he was of Knox United Church, Ayr, Cambridge Lodge #188 I.O.O.F for 50 years, a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #530, Waterloo, and a life member of Ayr Curling Club. He served overseas during the Second World War with the Canadian Army. Jack was a sports enthusiast as a former player and fan.     G. Neil Swan Passes

    G. Neil Swan of Water Street, Cambridge passed away on Thursday, November 6th at South Waterloo Memorial Hospital, Galt. Born in Paris on November 23rd, 1953, he was in his 22nd year. Neil had lived all his life in this area. He had attended Ayr Public School and Southwood Secondary School in Galt. At the time of his death he was employed at Canadian Tire in Galt. Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Moir Swan of Kitchener; a brother M. Paul Swan of Summerside, P.E.I.; and a sister Mrs. Robert (Sharon) Forde of Kitchener. Rev. D. Jantzi of Kitchener conducted the funeral service on Sunday at 3: 00 p.m. from Coutts and Son Funeral Home, Galt. Interment followed in Ayr Cemetery. Pallbearers were Pete Olsen, Jack Napier, Don Griffin, Jack Brown, Glen t. Clair and Richard Kempthorne.
