    Found Dead in Her Bed by Grandson on Wednesday Night

    It was with something of a shock that residents of the village learned on Wednesday evening, August 3rd, that Mrs. Elizabeth Carruthers, Northumberland street, had been found dead in her bed.

    Mrs. Carruthers, who was in her 86th year had not been noticed around her home by the neighbors, and about 6.00 p.m. her grandson, Joseph Wismer, Jr., and a neighbor, J. M. Hunt, forced their way into the house through a window. It was then learned that Mrs. Carruthers had passed away,

    Born at Greenfield, a daughter of William Sherman and Elizabeth Robson. Mrs. Carruthers had lived in Ayr and vicinity during the whole period of her long lifetime. She attended Knox United Church and was highly esteemed by many friends and nelghbors, She had been ill with heart trouble for a number of years and was the last member of one of the early families in this community.

    She is survived by the following family: Mrs. Joseph Wismer (Elizabeth), Ayr; Mrs. James Elliott (Mary), Toronto; Mrs. Joseph Faus, Jr. (Nettie,. South Dumfries; Mrs. J. R. Wood (Jean), Toronto, and John, Ayr. Her husband. Robert Carruthers, predeceased her 23 years ago.

    The funeral, which was private, took place to the Ayr Cemetery on Thursday afternoon. During the absence of Rev. J. W. Currie, the services were in charge of Mr. Jackson of Wolverton. A number of friends and relatives were present from outside points, and the floral tributes were beautiful.

    Daughter of Late Robert Carruthers Died in Galt Hospital on Friday

    Following an illness of some five or six months, the death occurred in Galt Hospital on Friday of Elizabeth Carruthers, wife of Joseph Wismer, in her 73rd year. She was born in Greenfield, being a daughter of the late Robert Carruthers and Elizabeth Sherman. Following her marriage 52 years ago at Knox Church manse by the Rev. Dr. John Thomson, she resided in Blair and Guelph for some three years, after which she returned to Ayr, where she had since resided. During her entire married life, she confined her activities to the welfare of her home and family. Besides her husband, she is survived by three sons and a daughter, viz.: William, Bruce, Ont.; Joseph and David, at home, and Mrs. Joseph Robbins (Florence). Also surviving are a granddaughter, Mrs. Bert Stuart (Blanche), Kitchener; two sisters, Mrs. James Elliott, Toronto, and Mrs. Joseph Faus, Jr., RR 3, Ayr, and a brother, John Carruthers, Ayr. The funeral took place from the W. O. Ball Funeral Parlor on Monday afternoon, interment being in Ayr Cemetery. The services were conducted by the Rev. J. W. Currie, and the pallbearers were: Ernest Cress, Bud Campbell, Carl Weitzel, Emory Zehr, James Bell and Henry Wolfe. The floral tributes were lovely.

She is survived by the following sisters and brother; Mrs. Joseph Wismer, Ayr; Mrs. James Elliott, Toronto; Mrs. Joseph Faus, Jr., and John Carruthers.

    Mrs. Joseph Faus, Jr.

    The death occurred at her residence in South Dumfries township on Sunday of Nettie Carruthers, beloved wife of Joseph Faus, Jr., in her 65th year.

    Mrs. Faus was born in Ayr, being a daughter of the late Robert Carutthers and Elizabeth Sherman. Here she resided until her marriage to Mr. Faus 37 years ago, when she removed, with her husband, to South Dumfries.

    Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons, William, Brantford and Emerson, at home; a sister, Mrs. James Elliott, Toronto, and a brother, John Carruthers, South Dumfries.

    The funeral will take place from the Cumming Funeral Home, Paris, this (Thursday) afternoon at two o'clock to the Ayr Cemetery.

    Native of Ayr Passes in Windsor--Aged 45 Years

    The sudden death occurred in Windsor on Wednesday March 10, at p.m. of Lilian Wismer wife of David Lickers, aged 45 years.

    She was the daughter or Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Wismer of this village. She was born in Ayr and spent her girlhood here. Many of her schoolmates, now living in different parts of the country will learn with regret of her passing.

    Besides her husband, she is survived by one son, Douglas, of Woodstock; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Wismer: two sisters. Mrs. Florence Robbins, Brantford and Mrs. Blanche Stewart, Weiland three brothers, William, Otter Lake, Ont., Joseph, at home and David, Drumbo.

    The funeral took place from the Ball Funeral Home on Saturday afternoon at four o'clock, with the Rev. W. J. McKeown of Galt in charge of the services. There were many beautiful floral tributes. The pallbearers were: James Burton, Ernest Cress, Alex McLeod, Jr., Robert Matheson, Ephraim Hawes and Arthur Hawes. Interment was made in Ayr Cemetery.

    South Dumfries Township native, Emmerson Ward Faus, died at the Willett Hospital, Paris on Monday, June 5th, 1995, in his 83rd year. Mr. Faus resided and farmed at RR 2, Paris for his entire life. He was predeceased by his parents, the late Nettie Carruthers and the late Joseph Faus. He will be missed by friends, Keith Disher, his wife, Donna and their family, of Paris. At the request of Mr. Faus, there will be no funeral service. Interment Ayr Cemetery. Arrangements by Wm. Kipp Funeral Home, Paris.
