    FATAL ACCIDENT. A very sad accident, which terminated fatally, occurred at `Rosehill', the farm of J.C. Dietrich, Esq., Blair Road, on Monday evening last. The unfortunate victim was Mr. William W. Hunsperger, who resided with his family in the stone cottage on the farm and has been employed as a gardener by Mr. Dietrich for the past four years. About six o'clock on Monday evening Mr. Johns, the farm foreman, with another employee happened into the stable where they found Hunsperger lying on his face near the door in an apparently dying condition, although they had noticed him a few minutes before unhitching the team. Physicians were summoned, but before their arrival the unfortunate man had breathed his last. The body was taken to the house where on an examination being made, it was found that several of the ribs on the left side had been broken with some of them pressed in against the heart. Just how the accident really occurred is not known, and likely never will be. Deceased had been engaged during the day in drawing stone with the heavy farm team, and when the accident happened was putting the horses in for the night. When discovered the horses were standing in their stalls with the bridles off, but the harness still on, and the general belief is that the deceased was jammed against the post in the stall, crushing in his ribs. The horses are considered very quiet, but the quietest animal will sometimes kick, and the accident might have been the result of a kick, although there was no mark on the body to indicate such a thing. Deceased was in his 27th year and was a quiet, steady, exemplary young man and was well thought of by his employer. He leaves a widow and two young children, a boy and a girl, to mourn his untimely death.

    MRS. CLARA H. DeWOLFE

    CANDOR--Mrs. Clara H. DeWolfe, 72, a retired seamstress for Rothschilds Department Store and a former telephone operator with the Candor Telephone Company, died Saturday, July 22, 1972, at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa. She lived at 9 Park Dr.

    Mrs. DeWolfe was a member of the McKendree United Methodistt Church; the Bethany Class of the Church;the Candor Grange; the Tuesday Evening Club; a charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary; past noble grand of the Rebecca Lodge 456; and a member of the Senior Citizens of Candor.

    Surviving are her mother, Mrs. Matilda Honsberger of Spencer; one son, Arthur R. DeWolfe Jr., of Ithaca; two daughters, Mrs. Marion Turner of Candor and Mrs. Verda D. Schmidt of Upper Sandusky, Ohio; 10 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; one brother, Gilbert W. Honsberger of Spencer; two sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Dawson of Arroyo Grand, Calif., and Mrs. Elsie M. McCarthy of Ithaca; nieces and nephews.

    Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Allen Funeral Home with the Rev. James J. Umbra of the McKendree United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Candor.

    Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

    Gilbert W. Honsberger, 88, of Spencer, NY, died at the Oxford Veteran's Home on Sunday, October 31, 2004. Gilbert was born in Canada on December 15, 1915 to Ezra and Matilda Myers Honsberger. He was a self employed farmer and had served with the United States Army in China during World War II as an Aerial Photographer. Gilbert is survived by his sister, Elsie McCarthy of Waverly, NY; and his nieces, Marian (Nick) Rollins of Foley, AL, and Verda (Lee) Schmidt of Santa Teresa, NM. He also has several great nieces and nephews, Elaine (Kenneth) Depew of Candor, NY, Linda Turner of Altoona, PA, Donna (Albert) Vergason of Waverly, NY, Kathy Dewolfe of Ithaca, NY, Peter (Sharon) Schmidt of New Mexico, and Claudia (Harry) Beaver of El Paso, TX. Gilbert will be greatly missed by all. A graveside service will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery, Candor, New York, on Saturday, November 6, 2004, at 11: 00 a.m. with Reverend Philip H. Jordan officiating. Arrangements are with the Candor Funeral Parlour, Inc., 137 Main St., Candor, NY.
