    SCHUT, George John - 1916-2008. Passed away peacefully, in his room at St. Lukes Place, with his family at his side, June 16, 2008, at the age of 91. Predeceased by his loving wife, Mildred Beatrice, who passed away in February 2007. Loving father of Ron and his wife Janis, Larry and his wife Shirl, son Richard and daughter Judy. Loving grandfather of Becky, Katie, Laurel, Jason, Jenifer, Jordan, Scott and Karen. Loving great-grandfather of Makayla and Ethan. George is remembered by loving sister, Hermina Howes and sisters-in-law, June Schut, Elvera Shantz and Erma Korn. Predeceased by mother and father, Helena and John Schut from Holland; and brother, Stan Schut. Born and raised in Preston, he resided there for 91 years. George served from 1941-1945 in the RCEME of the Canadian Army during the Second World War and returned to marry his longtime sweetheart. As a gifted self-taught carpenter, he used his many talents to build their home on Concession Rd. where they lived for over 60 years and raised their family. George worked as an auto mechanic for 18 years after which he went on to teach at Preston High School for 17 years. Many Preston drivers can attest to his patience and skill that he imparted in his driver training courses during his duration at PHS. The family will receive friends at the Barthel Funeral Home , 566 Queenston Rd., Cambridge on Wednesday, June 18, 2008 (today), from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church, 132 Argyle St. N. Cambridge, Thursday, June 19, at 11 a.m. Interment at Zion Cemetery immediately following service and lunch. As expressions of sympathy, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society and St. Lukes Place Foundation. The family would like to extend our deepest thanks for the caring and compassion shown to Dad, to all of the staff at St. Lukes, Nursing, Housekeeping and Kitchen. All cared and all made him feel special.1a
