    Christian Hofstetter

    The death took place at Baden on Saturday, January 11th, of Mr. Christian Hofstetter at the age of 66 years, 8 months and 25 days. The deceased had been ailing for some time, but was only confined to bed for about four weeks. He was well known and highly esteemed in the community and resided for many years on a farm adjoining the village of Baden. He leaves his sorrowing wife, four sons and one daughter to mourn his demise. The children are Milton, of Preston, Gordon of Stratford, and Elmer, Percy and Winnifred, of Baden.

    The funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon from his late home to the Wilmot Centre Evangelical Church and cemetery and was attended by a large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends.

    Elmor Hofstetter Passes Suddenly Elmor L. Hofstetter, of Baden, died suddenly at his home on Tuesday at the age of 70 years. He was born in Wilmot Township, September 5, 1891, and had been a resident of Baden for about 50 years.Mr. Hofstetter was a son of the late Christian Hofstetter and the former Caroline Hertzberger. For the past 25 years he had been employed in a New Hamburg store. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Leona Betzner in January 1960. Mr. Hofstetter was a member of Zion Evangelical United Brethren Church, New Hamburg. Surviving are two sons, Eugene of New Hamburg and Oray of Baden; two brothers, Percy of Plattsville and Gordon of Belle River; one sister, Mrs. Winnifred Gooding of Baden, and five grandchildren. He was predeceased by one brother, Milton. The body is at the Futher-Omand Funeral Home, New Hamburg, where the funeral will be conducted Friday afternoon at two o'clock, with Rev. F. Paul Erb officiating. Burial will follow in Wilmot Centre Cemetery.

    JANUARY 21, 1922 \endash OCTOBER 22, 2014

    Passed away peacefully at Cambridge, Ontario on Wednesday October 22, 2014 in his 93rd year. Predeceased by his beloved wife Helen (2002). Loving father of John (Maria), Susan Pautler (Chuck), Libby Noonan (and the late Bill) and Mary. Dearly loved grandfather of Lori, Amanda, Andrew, Marsha, John, Michael, James, Robin and Jessie. Great-grandfather to Ethan, Liam, Theodore, Elliot, Devon, Vivian, Lola, Jade and Cullen. Survived by sisters Helen and Joy and brother Clair. Predeceased by brother Ray. Gerald was born in Baden, Ontario and raised on a farm at Riverbank near Waterloo-Wellington Airport. In 1950, Gerald and his loving wife Helen moved to ThistleBlend Farm located on Fountain Street, Cambridge. Together they raised a family, were active members of the local farm and Zion United Church community and built a successful dairy-beef farm operation. Gerald will be remembered for his strong work ethic, commitment to farming, stewardship for the land and knowledge of pioneer history. Gerald was an endless source of stories, memories and advice which he shared freely with anyone he met. The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Cambridge Country Manor and Golden Years Retirement Home, Cambridge for their care and kindness during the latter years of his life. The family will receive friends at the Barthel Funeral Home, 566 Queenston Road, Cambridge, Ontario N3H 3J8 (519)-653-3251 on Thursday October 30, 2014 from 2-4 pm & 7-9 pm and Friday October 31, 2014 from 2-4 pm. A Funeral Service will be held at Trillium United Church, 450 King Street East, Cambridge N3H 3M9 on Saturday November 1, 2014 at 11 am. Interment to follow at Zion United Cemetery, Cambridge.     HOFSTETTER, Arnold Ray - Passed away peacefully, after a brief illness, on December 3, 2006, at Grand River Hospital, in his 83rd year. Beloved husband of Colleen Hofstetter (nee Sloan) for 57 years. Loving father of Anne Scharman of Belize, Steve Hofstetter (Jane Siddall) of Vancouver, Judy Link and her husband Ralph of Maryhill. Dear grandfather of Chantelle (Ari), Kyle and Nicholas. Cherished great-grandfather of Alina and Elijah. Survived by his brothers, Gerald Hofstetter of Cambridge, Clair Hofstetter (Betty) of Kitchener; sisters, Helen Hofstetter of Toronto, Joy White (Gordon) of Stouffville; brothers-in-law, Clarence Sloan of Boston, Harold Sloan of Winnipeg and Grace Baer (Willis) of Kitchener. Ray will be fondly remembered by his dear friend, Mieke Van Staalduinen of the Netherlands, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Predeceased by his parents, Milton Hofstetter (1947) and Annie Dedels (1951) and by his sisters-in-law, Helen Hofstetter, Phyllis Sloan and Mona Sloan. Ray was a dedicated employee for 36 years of Arrow Shirt Company before his retirement in 1986. He was also a long time member of Emmanuel United Church in Waterloo. During his life he enjoyed traveling, gardening and hanging out with his friends, the Coupon Clippers. Visitation and funeral dates and times have yet to be confirmed. He was born in Baden, 76 years ago, a son of the late Elmor and Leona (Betzner) Hofstetter. Eugene was employed at the B.F. Goodrich head office in Kitchener for over 45 years in supervisory positions and prior to his retirement he was in charge of pensions and benefits. He was a member of Zion United Church, New Hamburg. Eugene made a life long commitment to community affairs. He formerly was on the Board of Directors for Parkwood Manor and was a member of the Probus Club of K-W, Boys of the 30's Club of KCI, a member of the Waterloo County Hall of Fame Committee, New Hamburg Restless Seniors, longtime member of the New Hamburg Board of Trade where he served on the executive as president, was on the Wilmot Citizen of the Year Committee and was active as a director and volunteer for the Arthritis Society. Beloved husband of the former Jean Murray, whom he married, September 21, 1944; dear father of Susan and her husband Paul Lantz of Waterloo, Lynn and her husband John Leduc of Calgary; loving grandfather to Jenna and Kristopher Lantz and David Leduc; also remembered by sisters-in-law, Chris and her husband Dick Ritz, Betty and her husband Ernie Ritz, Betty Murray, Jim Murray and his wife Gywinith, all of New Hamburg. Eugene was predeceased by a brother, Oray and a brother-in-law, Bob Murray.
