NO LIQUOR SOLD AT GIRL'S PARTY

Lorentz Seiling Was, However, Warned By Magistrate Who Gave Him Benefit Of Doubt

Lorentz Seiling. of Breithaupt street, who was charged a week ago with keeping liquor for sale in connection with a party held at his house in honor of the seventeenth birthday anniversary of his daughter was found not guilty by Magistrate Weir in police court today. Seiling was represented in court by W. J. MeGibbon.

The charges were laid against Seiling as a result of an altercation during the party with Andrew and Gregory Laflamme, who were put
out of the house after they had been served with beer in the cellar.

It was shown in evidence that a collection was taken up at the party among the guests to provide a birthday present for the girl and to defray the expenses of the lunch and the music, thru his solicitor claimed that none of the money collected was for the beer which was given to the guests free. In disposing of the case after giving Selling the benefit of the doubt Magistrate Weir told the defendant that in future he should be careful not to associate beer with his social entertainments. The magistrate stated that it was hardly appropriate that a father should start his daughter into the world on her seventeenth birthday by serving beer at her anniversary party.

'Pat' Seiling Of St. Jacobs Sent To Reformatory For Having Liquor For Sale

Henry "Pat" Selling, proprietor of the St. Jacobs Hotel at St. Jacobs pleaded guilty in police court today to a charge of keeping liquor for sale, Seiling's place was raided by the provincial police a month ago and a liquor cache found under a wood pile. Two adjournments were taken in his case, the last being two weeks ago when on a physician's certificate he was excused from appearing in court owing to iliness.

After Selling pleaded guilty today, Magistrate Weir sentenced him to four months in the Ontario Reformatory, the sentence to begin next Tuesday. Through his counsel, H. E. German of McBride and Mc Gibbon, Waterloo, Selling asked until Tuesday to arrange his affairs before surrendering himself for sentence. The magistrate allowed the request and let the defendant out on bail until 10 o'clock Tuesday when he must report to court for committal. He furnished his own bond.

Previous convictions standing against the accused were waived by the prosecution which was represented by Inspector Moore of the provincial police in the absence of J. C. Makins, prosecutor for the Liquor Control Board. He was therefore charged with first offence when he pleaded guilty.

Barb lived a long and happy life. She enjoyed her many years on Beechlawn Dr in Waterloo and in Duncan BC where she met so many great friends and neighbours. Barb was an avid gardener and knitter in her younger days. She made so many beautiful sweaters and afghan blankets for people over the years that will be cherished and passed on for many generations. Barb also enjoyed a good get together with family over the holidays. Cheers to Barb! We will miss you so much!
