Fifty Years In Business Chas. N. Klinck Passes

IN FAILING HEALTH FOR PAST YEAR PROMINENT CITIZEN PASSES ON FRIDAY LAST

Charles N. Klinck, Elmira Optometrist and Jeweller, was laid to rest on Monday and a large attendance at the funeral of relatives, friends and business associates from the business section, attested to the high esteem in which he was held. The funeral took place from Dreisinger's Funeral Chapel, thence to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where services were conducted by the pastor, Rev. F. Malinsky.

Taken to the hospital the first week in June, the late Charles N. Klinck was seriously ill, and while hopes were held for his recovery, a poor heart condition saw him fail until the end and death occurred shortly after midnight on Friday, June 23rd. For the past year he had been in poor health and while attending to business on a shortened hour basis, his friends noticed his decline in health quite noticeably in recent months. He was 67 years of age.

Generally well liked and highly respected throughout the community, Mr. Klinck spent all his life in the community, in which he was born. He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Klinck, Sr., and was born in Elmira on April 19th, 1877.

For 49 years he practiced optometry in Elmira and enjoyed an enterprising business throughout the long term. He was also a jeweller for a like term. Being of a brilliant mechanical mind, the late Mr. Klinck had the reputation of being able to figure out most mechanical problems which came his way.

In his earlier years he was an electrician for a time, also a car mechanic and sold and serviced some of the first cars in Elmira. He won his greatest recognition in the mechanical windows designed and exhibited each year in the window of his store. The children of the present and of the past will long remember the thrills Mr. Klinck's Christmas scenes gave them over a long period of years. The windows were a marvel of mechanical ingenuity and Santa Claus was the star performer. All characters were endowed with life under the skillful touch of the master mechanic. The late Mr. Klinck spent many long hours planning and executing his mechanical displays but was always well rewarded with the joy brought to children throughout the years each time at Christmas.

A staunch supporter and devout member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, he served for many years on the board of the church and the school. Through his long connection with the church he took an active part in all its activities. He was president of the Fellowship Society and for many years taught in the Sunday School. His devotion to his church and its welfare were paramount considerations at all times, and as he served, he also lived a Christian life.

The late Charles Klinck was a member of the Elmira Board of Trade, the Elmira Community Service Club, president of the Elmira Musical Society for many years, and was organizer and secretary of two Elmira Old Boys' reunions in 1909 and 1923.
He was married on October 16th 1901, to Nettie Ruppel, and from this union were born two sons, Otto of Elmira and Edward C. of Kitchener; two daughters, Miss Laura of Kitchener and (Esther), Mrs. A. H. Borchardt, Fisherville, all of whom survive. Brothers and sisters surviving are George of Elmira, August of Galt, Mrs. J. B. Lein of Kitchener, Mrs. William Heckendorn and Miss Ida Klinck of Elmira. Four brothers and one sister predeceased him.

The remains were laid to rest in Elmira Cemetery on Monday afternoon and the following were pallbearers: Aaron Hoffer, Oscar Weismiller, Oscar Ruppel, Henry Geisel, H.L. Weichel, Ed. Campbell.
