Monday afternoon the death of Catherine Peppier, beloved wife of Mr. Hy Hahn took place at her residence on Arthur St. She had been a sufferer for quite an extended period, but latterly had been in somewhat improved health. Just within the past few days, had her condition caused anxiety. The late Mrs. Hahn was born in Woolwich Township, but with her husband, has been a resident of Elmira for about 35 years. She bore the high regard of a large circle of friends whose sympathy goes out to be the bereaved family. The surviving family consists of five sons and three daughters, John C:, and Chas. C., Berlin; Geo. of ocotoks, Ala.; Jacob Han: over; and Henry at home; Miss Lizzie, Detroit; Miss Louise, Berlin, and Lily, at home. The funeral will be held to-day, (Thurday) at 2 o'clock.

Catherine Peppler was born May 6th, 1842, being a daughter of the late Jacob Peppler, who lived a couple of miles east of Elmira: She was married to Henry Hahn in1863 and for about 10 years they lived on a farmer in the Jerusalem section. They afterwards moved to Elmira and have lived here ever since. They had a family of nine children, who all survive her except the eldest, Annie, who died about ten years ago, The living are: Jacob, Hanover, Johan and Charles, Berlin, George, Okotoks, Alberta; and Henry at home; Lizzie, Detroit, Louise, Berlin; and Lily at home. Five brothers and fact sisters also survive. her. During the last year her health was not good as usual and about a month ago she became seriously ill. About mid-day on Monday she passed peacefully away, being conscious to the last. The funeral was held on Thursday afternoon, Oct. 10th.

ENOCH PEPPLER

The death occurred at the family residence near Erbsville of Enoch Peppler, a well-known resident of this county.

The late Mr. Peppler was in his 63rd year and was a member of the Erbsville Lutheran Church. He is survived besides his sorrowing wife by four daughters, Mrs. George Heimpel, Heidelburg; Mrs. M. Seifert, Wellesley, Mrs. P. Kreutzwelser, Linwood, and Mrs. George B. Rahn of Waterloo, and two sons, Milton of Waterloo and Percy at home.

The funeral took place from his home on Monday, April o'clock. Interment was 4th at 3 o'clock. made in Heidelburg Lutheran Cemetery.

Jacob Hahn, 86, died early yesterday at his home in Stokes Bay, Ont. Born in Woolwich Township, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hahn of Elmira. He formerly resided in Hanover and Detroit. Surviving are his wife: a son, Harold, Detroit; two brothers, C. C. Hahn, Kitchener, and Henry Hahn, Elmira; three sisters, Mrs. B. Meets Death in Auto Accident

Mr. John C. Hahn, of Kitchener, died from injuries received in an auto accident which occurred on the Galt Hamilton highway on Monday morning when he and four others Kitchener men were on their way to see the R-100 at Hamilton. The accident happened when the car driven by Mr. Hahn took to the ditch while passing another car. He was taken to St. Marys Hospital, Kitchener, where he passed away without fully regaining consciousness, suffering from a broken pelvis and internal injuries. The other occupants of the car, Fred Yantz, Carl Speaker, Albert Smith and Carl Witte, were also injured, but will recover. They were taken to the Galt hospital. The late Mr. Hahn was a former resident of New Hamburg and was well known here. He was employed here as a machinist in the old New Hamburg foundry. Leaving here he moved to Kitchener about 25 years ago. He leaves a sorrowing wife, one son and eight daughters. The funeral was held yesterday to St. Paul's Lutheran Church and Mount Hope Cemetery.

GEORGE HENRY HAHN

George Henry Hahn, 70, died suddenly at his home, 6 James street Elmira on November 28. Mr. Hahn was born in Elmira, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hahn, and was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran church.

Surviving are his wife, Emma Ober, two sons, Carl of Elmira and Arthur of Galt, one daughter, Helen, Mrs. Leonard Rau of Kitchener, three brothers Jacob Hahn of Stokes Bay, Charles and Henry Mogk, Detroit, Mich., and Miss Louisa Hahn and Mrs. Edward Class of Kitchener.

The funeral was held Monday afternoon with private service at the residence at 2.30 followed by service at St. Paul's church at 3 o'clock. Interment took place in the Union cemetery and services were in charge of Rev. Frank Malinsky, pastor of St. Paul's church. The remains rested at Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home, Kitchener and later removed to the home of the deceased in Elmira.

Mr. Charles C. Hahn was mayor of Berlin in 1909-10. Previous to serving as mayor, he sat in the council from 1904-8. He is a tailor by trade. Hydro Electric Power was inaugurated in Berlin and in Western Ontario in 1910. Berlin, having survived the panic of 1907-8, was again in a prosperous condition. Then, the first permanent pavement was laid on King Street. Mr. Hahn was a member of the Ontario Municipal Association during his terms as mayor. The School Board decided to build the Victoria School. The system of collecting the taxes also was changed from July and December to June and October.

Mr. George E. Muter Succumbs at Freeport; Leaves Several Relatives in This District

Word has been received in Elmira of the death recently at Freeport Sanatorium of Mr. George Muter, a native of Woolwich and a resident of Hanover, who succumbed at Freeport Sanatorium to an illness of 11 months duration. Mrs. Irvin Beisel and Mrs. George Dreisinger of Elmira are cousin and niece, respectively, of the late Mr. Muter, while Mrs. George Miller, of West Montrose is an aunt.

The deceased man, who was in his 69^th year, was the eldest son of the late Frederick and Elizabeth Muter. After helping his parents on the farm, he followed the blacksmithing business for about 25 years being located in Mildmay, Burford and Hanover. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Canadian Order of Foresters and Masonic Order. Clara Peppier

Clara Peppier of 247 Franklin St. N., died at her home today after a lengthy illness. She was 89. Born in Woolwich Township, Oct. 27, 1880, she was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Peppler. She was a member of the Carmel Church of the New Jerusalem and was the last surviving member of her family. The body will be at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home, after 2 p.m., Sunday until noon Monday when removal will be made to Sunnyside Home chapel. A resurrection service will be held at the chapel at 1 p.m. Monday. Rev. Frank Rose, minister of the church, will conduct the service. Committal service will be held in Woodland mausoleum and burial will follow in Mount Hope cemetery.

Widow of the late Milton H. Peppler, Mrs. Roxie Peppler, 294 Blucher Blvd., died last night at K-W Hospital after an illness of some weeks. A native of Kitchener, Mrs. Peppler was 62. Of Lutheran faith, she was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Waterloo, and the Women's Missionary Society.

Percy G. Peppler, 61, of 230 Herbert St., Waterloo, died Tuesday at K-W Hospital after a month's illness. He lived in Waterloo for 10 years and previously farmed at Heidelberg for many years.

He was born Nov. 6, 1895, at Heidelberg. son of the late Enoch Peppler and the former Augusta Veitel. He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Heidelberg, and was a member of the church board for 12 years.

Gordon H. Strome

Widely known in the painting and decorating trade, Gordon Hugh Strome, 14 Edward street, passed away today at K-W Hospital. Former owner of the old Strome Decorating Company. Mr. Strome, who was in his 39th year, had been ill for the last 11 months. Mr Strome was born in Kitchener, a son of Mr. Menno Strome and his wife the late Anna Peppler. He was married to Goldie Manser. He was a member of the K-W Kiwanis Club. Surviving, in addition to his father are his wife, one son, Arthur, three daughters, Marjorie, Myrtle and Jessie, all at home, as well as three brothers, Walter, city, Harold of Toronto, Louis in Bloomington, Ill. and four sisters, Mrs. J. Knipfel, Toronto, Mrs. R. Perry, Lockport N.Y., Mrs. G. Larouix, Windsor and Mrs. E. Snider, Toronto. The funeral will be held on Friday afternoon, from the Schreiter-Sandrock Funeral Home at 3 p m. Interment will take place in Woodland Cemetery. Rev. C. A. Hirschman and Rev. G. F. Barthel will have charge, the remains will be at the funeral home.

Funeral service and burial took place Friday at St. Paul's Lutheran church, Erbsville, for Mrs. Mabel Rahn of St. Jacobs, formerly of Rummelhardt.

She died last Tuesday at K-W hospital at the age of 77. Rev. Arthur Horst conducted the service.

The former Mabel Maryann Brubacher, she was born in Woolwich Township, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Martin E. Brubacher.
She was predeceased by her usband Arthur in 1951, one daughter and one sister.

Surviving are three brothers, Clare, Cranson and William, all of Elmira; and one sister, Mrs. Robert (Florence) Crocker.

Harry Class (1916-2011) was an exceptional Canadian diver and influential member of the community of Kitchener. In 1934, at the British Empire Games in London, Class won a bronze medal in diving. During the Second World War, he joined the Canadian Army Intelligence Corp and went overseas where he took part in diving exhibitions. After the war, Class settled in Hamilton and worked his way up to chief executive officer of Mrs. Smith's Frozen Pies. He retired in 1978 and returned to Kitchener where he served as president and coach of the YMCA swim team. Remarkably, at the age of 72, Class returned to competitive swimming and won 16 Canadian championships and set 16 records in the 70-74 age group. At the age of 75, he competed across North America and in Europe, winning 50 gold medals, four silver and four bronze. Woodside Pool, where Class developed his swimming and diving skills, was renamed in his honour in 1992.

Hall of Fame - Waterloo Region:
Harry Class was born in Kitchener where he received his swimming and diving training at the YMCA under the supervision of Harold Ballantyne and Tommy Armour.

In 1932 he won the Canadian Junior three-meter Diving Championship and was the Canadian Senior Men's three meter Diving Champion in 1935, 1936, 1938, and 1943. In 1935 he won the Canadian Senior Men's one meter Diving Championship. In addition, he was a member of the 150-yard medley relay team that broke the Canadian record by four seconds in 1938.

At the British Empire Games in London, England, in 1934, he won a Bronze Medal for Canada in the three-meter diving event. Along with his Canadian Championship in 1936, he won the Canadian Olympic Trials in three meter diving at Montreal.

Class won many other Provincial and YMCA swimming and diving championships, and also is a member of the Toronto Granite Club Hall of Fame and the Hamilton Aquatic Club Hall of Fame.

A charter member of First Baptist Church, Waterloo and a band master for five years of the K-W Air Cadets. Son of the late Francis and Elizabeth Hamacher. The funeral of Miss Edith Heimpel of Heidelberg, victim of an auto accident one work ago today, was held yesterday and was largely attended. The funeral was held from the Letter and Dreisinger funeral home in Waterloo to the Lutheran church at Heidelberg where services were held. Burial was made in the Heidelberg cemetery.

Pall benzers were six cousins of the deceased, Clayton Kroutswelser, William Hahn. Karl Peppler, Lloyd Pappler. Nelson Heimpel and Clayton Heimpel.

EDITH HEIMPEL SUCCUMBS TO INJURIES

Dies Four Days After Receiving Injuries in Car Accident.

Badly injured about the head, and suffering from internal injuries besides other wounds, Edith Heimpel, of Heidelberg passed away in the K.-W. Hospital on Friday, four days after the accident on the Heidelberg - St. Clements highway. Edgar Reidel, driver of the car, in which Miss Heimpel was a passenger, who was arrested after the accident, was released on a $1,000 bail, charged with criminal negligence.

According to the account given out by the police, Reidel, who was driving the car, owned by William Koebel of St. Clements, clipped off a rural mail box and then turned over in the ditch. Deceased was employed. in the home of Carl Damman, who also passed away last week. The victim of the accident is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Heimpel, two sisters, Mrs. Alfred Dietrich of Waterloo, and Roxie at home, three brothers, Roy of Water- loo and Percy and Howard at home. The funeral, which was largely at tended, was held on Sunday at the St. Peter's Lutheran church in Heidelberg, Interment taking place in the Heidelberg cemetery. Pall bearers were six cousins of the deceased, Clayton Kreutzwelser, William Rohn, Earl Peppler, Lloyd Peppler, Nelson Heimpel and Clayton Heimpel.

Ruby passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love and prayers of her family on Saturday, July 7, 2012 at the Freeport Health Centre of Grand River Hospital, age 87.

Ruby was a faithful and lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Waterloo. Ruby enjoyed many years working as the Secretary at Centennial Public School in Waterloo. In her retirement she enjoyed travelling, socializing, bridge clubs, the "Super Seniors" and aqua fit classes.

Ruby was predeceased by her loving husband Robert Shilling in 1998. She was a proud and loving mother of her son Michael and wife Rosemarie of Kitchener, and daughter Laurie Lessard and husband Daniel of Waterloo. Ruby loved and took great delight in her grandchildren: David (Emma), Jonathan (Lisa), Andrew and Lindsay; and great-grandson Thomas.

Mrs. Shilling's family will receive friends at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Wednesday, July 11, 2012 from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. The funeral service will take place on Thursday, July 12, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of the funeral home with Doug Kranz officiating. Ralph Brubacher of Elmira, born: June 5, 1925 in Elmira, died: May 12, 2018 of age related illness

ELMIRA Val Brubacher cannot say enough about her father-in-law, Ralph Brubacher, about his big heart, his humour, his intelligence.

"He was a great, kind, loving person," she said. "He was a very interesting man with a wealth of knowledge and he read a lot, he read everything."

Son, Peter Brubacher, noted his father's book collection included everything from encyclopedias to books about the Second World War, a topic of particular interest to Ralph given his own experiences serving in the military as a teenager.

Ralph was born on a farm just outside Elmira, one of two kids. His father Clare Brubacher founded CJ Brubacher Plumbing & Heating in 1923, a business that would eventually be taken over by Ralph, then in 1994 his sons Peter and Jim and more recently a grandson, Kyle Brubacher bought the business, the fourth generation.

In 1928, Ralph's parents built a house in Elmira, where he grew up in the warmth of this small community.

In 1942, at the age of 17, Ralph decided he wanted to join the war effort but the teen was too young and required special permission from his father, which was granted.

Peter said their grandfather had served in the trenches during the First World War and didn't want his son to be conscripted to the army. The alternative was for Ralph to voluntarily sign up with the Royal Canadian Air Force where he would avoid the bloodshed of the battlegrounds.

Ralph, a highly intelligent and capable young man, rose to the rank of pilot officer before he was 20 and was training young pilots, a treacherous job because there tended to be a lot of crashes. Ralph never served overseas but his skills were recognized by the Air Force and for nearly a decade after he was discharged in 1945, Ralph continued to return to the base every summer to train new pilots.

After his discharge, Ralph had the option of purchasing land or going to school on a government veterans program. He chose an education, completing a mechanical engineering degree.

Ralph worked for Uniroyal for a couple of years after graduating but then his dad asked him to join the company.,,,,
