    James Oliver

    James Orville Oliver of London, formerly of Ayr, passed away on August 2nd. He was in his 86th year. Born in Richwood, he was a son of the late Samuel Oliver and Margaret Bateman. Mr. Oliver spent his early years in Ayr, attending school here. He served overseas with the army and then returned to Ayr where he worked at Ramsey's Store. In the 1930's Mr. Oliver moved to London where he worked as a maintenance man at the old federal building for the post office. He also enjoyed helping with a stand at London market which he did until three years ago. While in Ayr, he was a fine hockey player with the outstanding Ayr hockey team of the 1920's. Member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Masonic Lodge and Christ Anglican Church. Predeceased by his first wife Jean Veitch and second wife Maude Blancher; two sisters Myrtle Bricklin and Florence Hamlyn; brothers Ted, George and Sam. Surviving are his wife Kathleen McGuire; two daughters Dolores Shelton and Joan Forster, both of London; and a sister Theresa Pritchett of London. Funeral service was held in London with interment in Ayr Cemetery.

    Notes:

    George Earl Oliver Passes - The death occurred April 24 at the Oshawa General Hospital, following a short, serious sickness, of George Earl Oliver of 299 Festubert Street, Oshawa. He was in his 62nd year. Born Feb. 12, 1906, at Ayr, the deceased was a son of the late Samuel and Margaret Oliver. He was married May 26, 1928, at London, Ont., and had been a resident of Oshawa for more than 40 years. An employee in the parts and service department at General Motors, Mr. Oliver was a member of Local 222, UAW, and of the Oshawa Naval Veterans' Club. He is survived by his wife, the former Margaret McClelland; a daughter, Mrs. Howard Norton (Helen), and a son, Georg, Jr., both of Oshawa. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Harry Pritchett (Theresa) and Mrs. Lewis Bricklin (Myrtle), and two brothers, James and Clarion (Ted), all of London, Ont., and seven grandchildren. Mr. Oliver was predeceased by a sister, Mrs. Florence Hamlyn, April 26, 1963, and by a brother, Samuel, Sept. 29, 1953. Memorial service was held in Oshawa on April 26, with interment in Mount Lawn Cemetery.
