BAILEY, Robert John Scott September 10, 1991 - January 15, 2016 With peace, love and gratitude in his heart, Robert passed away on January 15, 2016 at the age of 24. He will be forever loved and cherished by his parents Craig and Patty (nee Heipel), his dear sister Annie and his beloved fiancée Stephanie VanderValk. Robert was the cherished grandson of Alayne Bailey and nephew of Lane and Michelle Bailey, Gail and Scott Friday, Russ Bailey, Sharon and David Holowack, David and Christine Heipel, Joanne Alves, Nancy Heipel, and Andrew Heipel. He will be forever missed by his cousins Jordan, Trevor and Shannon Friday, Justin and Jamie Bailey, Daniel and Brianna Heipel. He will be missed by his many great aunts and uncles. Predeceased by his grandmother Shirley (nee Schott) Heipel, grandfather John Heipel, and grandfather Robert Bailey. Robert was born in Winnipeg, moved to Oakville, and then the family moved to Cambridge when Robert was 6. He was a solid goalie for the Cambridge Hawks and Brantford 99er's travel hockey teams and achieved a Provincials' medal before turning his focus to downhill biking. Robert competed in the Ontario Cup circuit for many years and was Ontario Champion at age 16. Downhill biking was one of his passions and one of the highlights of his life was his biking trip to Whistler. He shared this love of biking with hundreds of kids when he taught mountain biking at Chicopee summer camp for 5 years. He developed a passion for photography at GCI high school and went on to study photography at Sheridan College. After college he became professionally known as Duke Bailey and started working for some of Toronto's top commercial photographers. He never considered it work; photography was pure joy for him and any day in a studio was an "awesome" day. Robert had set up his own company and was on the cusp of his first independent photography shoot when the cancer progressed. Robert bravely endured 4 years of treatments and endless surgeries for osteosarcoma. He did everything he possibly could. Through all this, his clever sense of humour never left him. Recently at Lisaard House a nurse offered to turn on the fan to make him a little "cooler" and Robert immediately said, "I don't think that's possible". Family and friends are invited to a commemoration in The Ballroom at Bingemans, 425 Bingemans Centre Drive, Kitchener, on Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at 2 p.m. where tributes will be read, memories and hugs will be shared, and we'll raise a glass of Stella in Robert's memory. A private service will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Erbsville. Interment will take place at a later date. The family would like to thank all the special angels who helped with Robert's health care. As expressions of sympathy, donations to The Terry Fox Foundation, Lisaard House Hospice, or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family and may be arranged by contacting Robert Ruggle Funeral Home at 617 King St. N., Waterloo, 519-888-7700.
