    Mrs. John J. Hodgson Passes

    Mrs. John J. Hodgson, one of Ayr's oldest residents, passed away in St. Mary's Hospital Kitchener, on Saturday, November 3rd. She was in her 98th year. Mrs. Hodgson, the former Agnes Ruth Clark, was a daughter of the late Charles Clark and Isabella Shupe. She was born and spent most of her life in Ayr and district. A life-long member of Knox United Church, Ayr, and life member of the former Women's Missionary Society. Predeceased by her first husband Oscar Bell, second husband John Hodgson and a son Lloyd. Surviving are two sons Oscar Bell of Blenheim, Ontario, and John W. Hodgson of Belleville; three daughters Mrs. Lloyd (Evelyn) Howell and Mrs. William (Isabelle) Underwood, both of Ayr, and Mrs. George (Mary) Fowler of Cambridge; also seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Private funeral service was held Monday at the Wm. Kipp Funeral Home, Paris. Interment in Ayr Cemetery.

    Mrs. Lloyd Howell

    Mrs. Lloyd Howell of Northumberland Street, Ayr, passed away at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener, on Sunday, February 3rd. She was in her 72nd year. Born in Ayr, she was the former Evelyn Ruth Hodgson, a daughter of the late John Hodgson and Agnes Clark. She was a member of Knox United Church, Ayr. Mr. and Mrs. Howell operated a farm north of the CPR tracks, east of Northumberland Street in Ayr for many years. Today much of their former farm is covered with homes and businesses. Mrs. Howell had worked in the office at Best Foods and later at Sherk Sales and Service before retiring. Beloved wife of Lloyd Howell, dear mother of Ross and his wife Dianne of Guelph and Bill and his wife Sandy of Kitchener; loving grandmother of Bradley, Edward, Laura, Cathy and Rick; dear sister of Oscar Bell of Blenheim, Jack Hodgson of Belleville and Mrs. William (Isabel) Underwood of Ayr. Predeceased by a sister Mary Fowler. Rested at the Wm. Kipp Funeral Home, Paris, where funeral service will be held today (Wed.) at 1: 30 p.m. Rev. George Saunders of Ayr will officiate. Interment Ayr Cemetery.

    Notes:

    The sad death occurred in Ayr, on Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 8.30 a.m., of William Lloyd Bell, eldest son of Mrs. J. J. Hodgson, aged four years and five months. The little fellow, while playing on Monday morning, accidently fell backward into a pail of boiling water, the scalds from which resulted in his death. Much sympathy is extended by the community to the bereaved ones in their sad loss. The funeral will take place on Saturday at 2.30 p.m., to Ayr cemetery.

    Oscar Bell

    A former Ayr resident, R. Oscar Bell of Blenheim passed away April 29th in Chatham. He was 79. Born in Cranston, he was a son of the late Richard Oscar Bell and Agnes Ruth Clark He spent his early years in Ayr, apprenticing at Ayr Garage under Jack Gillies. Mr. Bell was a member of Blenheim United Church and A.O.T.S. and also a member of the choir for 20 years, member of the Chatham barbershop singers and Ken Kordsmen. He was a stockman at Rigby Motors for 18 years, then worked for J. M. Carruthers Motors until retirement. He then developed a woodworking craft hobby. Predeceased by two sisters, Evelyn Howell and Mary Fowler. Survived are his wife, the former Lillian Robertson; one daughter Judy and son-in-law Frank O'Rourke of Raleigh Township; one brother J. W. Hodgson of Belleville, one sister Isabell (Mrs. William Underwood) of Ayr. Funeral service was held in Blenheim, with interment in Evergreen Cemetery, Blenheim.
