Benedickt Ibele, Sr., of Swan Street, Ayr, passed away in St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener, on Sunday, June 10th. He was in his 79th year. Born in Germany, he came to Canada nearly 60 years ago. Formerly a caretaker at Ayr Public School and Knox United Church, Ayr. After retirement operated for a time a woodworking business in a shop he built on Swan Street, Ayr (now Ayr Carpentry). He was a member of Dolman Lodge I.O.O.F., Ayr. Survived by two sons, Stewart of Mattawa and Ben Jr. of Ayr; a daughter Mrs. Nancy Joron of Oakville; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; also brothers Hugo and Franz and sister Theresa of Germany. Predeceased by his wife, the former Lily Eichler in 1972. Funeral service was held at the Wm. Kipp Funeral Home, Paris on Tuesday afternoon. Rev. George Saunders of Knox United Church, Ayr, officiated. Interment in Ayr Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jack Hammer, Don Hammer, Ed. Hachey, Bud Campbell, Mark Joron and Bill Breau.

Lily (daughter of Frederick Pogson "Fred" Eichler and Wilhelmina Robson) was born 12 Nov 1914, New Hamburg, Wilmot Twp., Waterloo Region, Ontario, Canada; died 2 Jan 1972, Kitchener, Waterloo Region, Ontario, Canada; was buried 5 Jan 1972, Ayr Cemetery, Ayr, Waterloo Region, Ontario, Canada. Ben Gordon Ibele

Life-long Ayr resident Ben Gordon Ibele passed away, following a courageous battle with cancer, at Cambridge Memorial Hospital on Monday, January 5th, 1998. He was in his 59th year. Born in Ayr, he was a son of the late Ben Ibele Sr. and Lily May Eichler. Ben was an employee of Ayr News for 40 years and a member of Ayr Fire Department for 30 years. Dear husband of Pat Burton; loved brother of Nancy and her husband Lou Joron of Parksville, B.C. and Stewart and his wife Joan of Forester Falls; beloved son-in-law of Fred and Doreen Burton of Cambridge (G); dear brother-in-law of Barb and her husband Bert Van Amerongen of Kitchener, Anita Burton and the late Mike Burton. Also survived by nieces and nephews Lorrie and Russell and son Hart, Jennifer and Phil and children Logan and Jasmine, all of B.C., Mark and Heidi and children Kathryn and Benjamin of Timmins, Christine, Tony, Richard, Terry and Ellen and family and Christopher, all of the Kitchener area. Ben had a very special place in his heart for his goddaughter Jessica Cormier. To Ben, Danielle, Stacey and his sweetheart Kelly were very special. Friends will be received at the Ayr Chapel, Wm. Kipp Funeral Home, 273 Northumberland Street, Ayr today (Wednesday) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. where funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 8th at 1: 30 p.m. Reverend G. Griggs officiating. Cremation to follow.
