    Notes:

Spent most of her married life, working with her husband as Office Manager of Jemco Wiring Components, in Waterloo. Was a very good mother and wife to her family. Intensly loyal and fiercely protective. An excellent cook and Mother. Always thoughtful of the feelings of others, especially the children. A great grandmother and loved and respected by all. Though greatly loved by her husband and children.

Always maintained that she paid for the marriage liscence because her husband did not pay her back when she initially paid for the licence because he was a little short, at the time it was paid for. She was right.

Marlene was born and lived at 48 Dekay St. Kitchener. She met Lorne when he moved across the street to his sisters home. Their relationship did not start immediately, but her desire to meet him grew out of her relationship with the children of Lorne's sister Reta, where he was living. The children and "Uncle" Lorne used to sit on their front porch and sing songs while he played his guitar, and Marlene got in the habit of sitting with them. Marlene was old mentally for her age and for whatever reasons was soon infatuated with Lorne and decided that he was the guys he was going to marry. Lorne was around 27- 28 years old and she was around 16, but that did not deter her. Love was love and she had it. Of course she had no way of knowing that Lorne was the victim of several hurting love affairs, that had made him bitter and slightly distrusting of women, in general. They had also made him a very lonely man, and perhaps that made him a pushover for her, for he fell for her right away and could not resist her.

Her opportunity came when he purchased an old army motorcycle and asked her if she wanted a ride. She willingly consented, and jumping on the pillion seat put her arms around him and has never let go of his heart since. From then on she made herself a pest and was always in his way, no matter where he was or what he was doing, and their relationship blossomed quickly. Lorne, of course was having difficulty handling the age difference, as were Marlene's Father and Mother, but Marlene was set in her mind, and nothing would deter her. To make a long story short, marriage was soon proposed, but Lorne would have none of it until she was 18 which I am sure relieved her parents.

They were married at the Kitchener Y. M. C. A. by J Melvin Toone, the then President of the Canadian Mission, of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, (Mormon). The dinner was held in a restaurant that is now just a dilapidated old house, on old King St. East/South, below Fairway Rd. just about at the bend in the street before it gets to River Rd. Their marriage has been like all others, having it's up's and down's but producing 5 of the nicest kids anyone could want.

17 Mar 1993- The house where the dinner was held is now torn down and replaced by other buildings.

    Karen Gayle McKenzie

    OCTOBER 14, 1958 \endash AUGUST 29, 2022

Passed away at home on Monday, August 29, 2022 at the age of 63 years. Beloved wife of the late Samuel McKenzie. Predeceased by her devoted and loving parents Elmer and Gwen Arndt (nee Tutt). Karen's family and friends will gather at Westmount Memorial Celebration Centre, 1001 Ottawa St. S., Kitchener, (519-743-8900), on Friday, September 9, 2022, from 9:00 - 9:45 a.m., where the funeral service will be held in the chapel at 10:00 a.m., with Bishop Matt Skogsdad of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints officiating. Interment at Woodland Cemetery and a dedication at the graveside will follow. We are not planning a reception at this time. Karen was born and raised in Kitchener, as did her father, her grandfather (Arndt) and great-grandfather (Willis). She served a church mission in B.C. in her 20's and continued to serve in the church throughout her life. A couple of weeks ago a dove landed on Karen's balcony on Margaret Ave. Soon after, she became the proud guardian of baby doves and she took great joy in watching 'her doves' grow. We are so thankful that her Father in Heaven sent this gift to Karen to cheer her in what became her final days. We are also grateful for those who have helped to care for her during these past years. Karen wanted to go home, to be with her parents and now, she is. Well done, Karen. All is well.

"For there stood by me this night the angel of God, whose I am, and whom I serve,
Saying, Fear not... be of good cheer...for I believe God, that it shall be, even as it was told me."
