    Sergt. Ben W. Eichler Passes on August 29 Due to Wounds Received In Action

    Mr. and Mrs. Julius Eichler received the sad news from the Records Department, Ottawa, on Saturday that their son Sergt. Benjamin William Eichler was officially reported to have died August 29 as the result of toxaemia due to wounds received. action in France, August 14th.

    Coming so soon after the news of the death of Segt. Wilfred Hedley, a cousin of Sergt. Eichler, the shock was felt more keenly..

    Sergt. Eichler received stomach wounds in action in France on August 14, but it thought his condition was improving due to a letter received last week from the padre of his unit pointing out that Ben would be a to write personally in a few days.

    Ben was born in Ayr on March 17, 1920. and was 24 year of age. He attended Ayr Public and Continuation Schools. His favourite sports were hockey and softball and he also indulged in skiing. He was an active member of Knox United Church and Sunday School.

    Prior to enlisting with the Highland Light Infantry of Canada in June, 1940, he was employed with the Reid Lumber Coal Co.

    Besides his parents Mr. and Mrs. J. Eichler, he is survived by three sisters and one brother as follows: Mrs Archie Mathison, Aylmer; Mrs. Arthur Smith, Toronto, (whose husband is serving with the C.A.M.C.); Mrs. Hugh Clark, Ayr (whose husband is in with the R.C.O.C.), and Jack Eichler, Camp Borden.
