    Death of Mrs. Andrew Laurie, Sr. - The death took place on Friday last, at her home here, of Mrs. Andrew Laurie, after a lingering illness terminating …?... nee Mary Wight, was born at Hawick, Scotland, and came to Canada with her parents at the age of five years, settling near Galt. She was united in marriage with the late Andrew Laurie in the year 1874 and settled on the farm in Blenheim now occupied by her son, Mr. A. E. Laurie. Deceased resided on the family homestead until the death of her husband, 19 years ago, subsequently removing to Ayr, where she lived 17 years. At death she was in her 75th year. Mrs. Laurie was of a quiet, home-loving nature, devoted to her family, and was a good, kind neighbor and friend. In religion she was a Presbyterian, a member of Knox United Church, and was a woman of high Christian ideals. She lived her years amongst us one of the God-fearing, faithful pioneers of our community. The family comprises Mr. A. E. Laurie, Blenheim; Mrs. Robson, Detroit; Mrs. W. T. Edgar, North Dumfries; Jessie at Galt, and Mary at home. The funeral took place on Monday, to the Ayr cemetery, Rev. J. J. Brown conducting the service, in which he was assisted by Rev. Dr. Thomson. The pallbearers were Messrs. Jno. L. Black, And. Baptie (Guelph), Adam Lockie (Galt), Robt. Laurie (Princeton), J. W. Hunt, A. G. Laurie (Blenheim).

    Passing of Andrew E. Laurie

    Andrew E. Laurie, one of the prominent farmers of the district, passed away on Friday, Dec. 20, at 1.30 a.m. at his home on Concession 9, Blenheim Township, one mile west of Ayr, in his and year. - Well Known and Highly Esteemed - Mr. Laurie had been ill for about a month, but had ceased farming operations about seven years ago, owing to indifferent health. He was a gentleman of the old school and was known and esteemed by a wide acquaintanceship. - Spent Lifetime on Home Farm - Mr. Laurie was born, and had resided all of his lifetime, on the farm on which he passed away. He was a son of Andrew Laurie, an original Scottish pioneer, and Mary Wight. Mr. Laurie was a valued member of Knox United Church, and was a member of the Ayr Cemetery Company executive for many years. - Those Who Survive - Surviving are one son and three daughters, as follows: A. Roger Laurie, Con. 5, South Dumfries; Mrs. Leroy McMillan (Elizabeth) and Mrs. Charles Robson (Mary) of Blenheim Township, and Mrs. Gordon Hounslow (Agnes) of Galt. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. William T. Edgar, Ayr, and Mrs. Nellie Robson, Windsor. - The Funeral - The funeral took place from his late residence on Monday to the Ayr Cemetery.

    Passing Of Mary E. Laurie

    Former Resident of Ayr Had Been Ill for Several Months

    Funeral Held Tuesday - The death occurred on Sunday at 2.30 o'clock p.m. at the home of her brother-in-law, William. T. Edgar, 7th concession of North Dumfries, of Mary Elizabeth Laurie, in her 62nd year. Miss Laurie was ailing for several months, and, for the past month had been at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar. She was born on lot 1, concession 9, Blenheim township, on the farm now owned by her brother, Andrew E. Laurie, being a daughter of Andrew Laurie and Mary Wight, early pioneers. Here she spent her early days, after which she resided in Ayr for many years. For the past eight years she had resided in St. George. Miss Laurie was a member of Knox United Church, Ayr. Surviving are one brother, Andrew E. Laurie, and three sisters, Mrs. Wm. T. Edgar, North Dumfries; Mrs. Nellie Robson, Windsor, and Mrs. Jessie Davis, Staffa. - The Funeral - The funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon at 2.30 from the home of her brother-in-law, Wm. T. Edgar to Ayr Cemetery. Rev. R. A. Steed of Knox United Church conducted the services, and the pallbearers were: J. W. Currie, Charles Robson, Rodger Laurie, Cameron Edgar, Morton Guthrie and Jack Welsh, The funeral, was largely attended, and there were many floral tributes from relatives and friends.

    The Passing of Mrs. Montgomery Davis - Mrs. Montgomery Davis (Jessie Laurie) died on Saturday, August 8, in St. Joseph's Hospital, London, after a lingering illness. She was in her 64th year Mrs. Davis was a daughter of the late Andrew Laurie and Mary Wight. She spent her early life at Ayr and Galt. After her marriage 20 years ago, she went to live in Dublin, and had resided there ever since. She was a member of the United Church. She is survived by her husband, two sisters, Mrs. Wm. T. Edgar, Ayr, and Mrs. Nellie Robson, Windsor, and one brother, Andrew E. Laurie, Ayr. The funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon, with service at the W. R. Heath Funeral Home, Mitchell. Interment was made in Ayr Cemetery.

    Life-long RR 3, Ayr resident, Elizabeth Cowan MacMillan, died peacefully at her home on Friday, August 8th, 1997. She was in her 87th year. Born in Blandford-Blenheim Township, the daughter of Ellen (Rodger) and Andrew Elliott Laurie, Elizabeth lived her life on the family farm on the Blandford-Blenheim/North Dumfries townline, west of Ayr, and was a life-long member of Knox United Church. She was predeceased by her daughter Nancy Elmes. Surviving is her husband LeRoy MacMillan; her daughter Gail Lederman of Kitchener; her four grand-children Jennifer, Matthew, Elijah and Chrystal; her two sisters Mary Robson of Ayr and Agnes McLean of Aberfoyle; her brother Roger Laurie of Brantford; and her son-in-law Barry Elmes of Toronto. Reverend Fred Hagle conducted funeral services at the Ayr Chapel, Wm. Kipp Funeral Home on Monday, August 11th at 2: 00 p.m. Interment Ayr Cemetery. Pallbearers were Will Rodger, Lorne Loree, Elijah Lederman, Mark MacMillan, Bob MacMillan and Doug MacMillan.

    Mrs. Mary Robson

    Former Blenheim Township resident, Mary Wight Laurie Robson died at the Willett Hospital, Paris on Sunday, October 10th, 1999. She was in her 86th year. A daughter of the late Andrew Elliott Laurie and Ellen Rodger, Mary was a lifelong member of Knox United Church, Ayr. She farmed for 44 years on the 9th Concession of Blenheim Township with her husband, the late Charles Robson (1986). Mary is survived by her daughters, Anne and her husband Fred Loree of Ayr and Carol and her husband Bob Yule of Drumbo; eight grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; and by her sister, Agnes and her husband Ken McLean of Guelph. As well as her parents, she was also predeceased by her sister Elizabeth MacMillan and brother Roger Laurie. Funeral service was held at the Ayr Chapel, Wm. Kipp Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 13, 1999, Interment Ayr Cemetery.

    Greenfield Road resident, Helen Laurie (Robson) Sherk, R.N., died at Cambridge Memorial Hospital on Friday, June 2, 1995, in her 87th year. Born in Oxford County, she was the daughter of the late Nellie (Laurie) and the late Daniel Wakefield Robson. Mrs. Sherk was a graduate of the University of Western Ontario (Public Health) and was employed as a Registered Nurse with the Victorian Order of Nurses before her marriage. She was a former member of the North Dumfries Women's Institute, the First United Church, Cambridge and the Business and Professional Women's Association of Cambridge. Mrs. Sherk is survived by her husband Weston Sherk; her son Don and his wife Pat of Midland, their children, Jeffrey and Suzanne; and by her brother George Robson and his family of Windsor. In addition to her parents Mrs. Sherk was predeceased by her sisters, Nora and Jean. Funeral service was held at the Ayr Chapel, Wm. Kipp Funeral Home on Sunday, June 4th at 3 p.m. Reverend Hilary Merritt of First United Church, Cambridge, officiated. Interment was in the Ayr Cemetery.

    Donald Sherk, 14-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Weston Sherk, Greenfield Road, lost his right arm below the elbow in an unfortunate haying accident on Saturday morning. He was working alone, mowing in a field some distance from the house. Because it was warm day he began to remove his shirt, a loose end of which was caught in the power takeoff coupling pulling his arm into the rapidly revolving coupling
