    A. Marshall Cochrane Passes

A former well-known Ayr resident, Albert Marshall Cochrane, died at his home in Preston on Saturday following a long period of indisposition. He was born on the Cochrane homestead, south of Ayr, now owned by his nephew, Alden Cochrane, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Robert Cochrane. In the early years of the automobile, he operated an agency in the building now occupied by Ayr Auto Body. He subsequently worked for many years at the former Hecker-HO Company of Canada at Greenfield. When this plant ceased operations during World War II, Mr. Cochrane was employed as a fitter with a Galt firm until a , muscular disorder forced his retirement eight years ago. At that time he moved to Preston. The muscular disorder eventually resulted in the amputation of both legs, but Mr. Cochrane bravely retained his good spirits and jolly disposition throughout the ordeal. During his residence in Ayr, Mr. Cochrane was a well-known figure in sporting and social circles. He was skilled at both curling and lawn bowling, and represented Ayr on many winning entries in these sports. He was a valued member and former elder of Knox United Church. Mr. Cochrane was affiliated with Ayr Masonic Lodge and served a term as Master. Surviving, besides his wife, the former Mary Stewart, are two daughters, Mrs. Ray Diefenbaker (Shirley) of Kitchener and Mrs. George Mellor (Goldie) of Brantford; a son, Calvin of Preston; two sisters, Mrs. Charles Gunn (Margaret) of Ayr and Mrs. Thomas Ritchie (Grace) of RR 2, Paris, and two brothers, Ernest and Robert, both of Ayr. Several grandchildren also survive.

    The Funeral

Funeral service was held Tuesday afternoon at the Coutts Funeral Home, Galt, conducted by Rev. W. J. V. Buchanan of Ayr, assisted by Rev. Arthur I. Waters of Preston. The large attendance bespoke the popularity of the deceased in the community. Interment was made in Ayr Cemetery. Pallbearers were: J. W. Maus, C. W. Davis, G. H. Lawrence, W. G. Edgar, J. C. Swan and J. H. Dance, all of Ayr and district.
