    Mrs. William T. Edgar Passes

    A lifelong resident of this district, Mrs. William T. Edgar, 76, passed away at K-W Hospital on Monday following a lengthy illness. Born in Blenheim Township, she was a daughter of the late Andrew Laurie and Mary Wight, who were among the early residents of the area. She lived for many years on The Hill Farm on the Townline, now owned by her son, Cameron, before coming with her husband to Ayr. Mr. Edgar passed away four years ago. Mrs. Edgar was a valued member of Knox United Church and in earlier years was active in the Blenheim-Dumfries Farm Women's Club. She was the last surviving member of her faintly, being, predeceased by a brother and three sisters. Surviving are a son, Cameron, RR 3, Ayr, two daughters, Mrs. Lorne Curnoe (Mary) of Islington and Mrs. John MacLellan (Kathryn) of Windsor. Six grandchildren also survive. Funeral service was held today (Wednesday) at her late residence, Bute St., conducted by Rev. W. J. V. Buchanan. Interment was made in Ayr Cemetery.

    Cameron Edgar - One of Ayr's most prominent members of the agricultural community, Cameron Laurie Edgar, passed away at Brantford General Hospital on Thursday, August 30th, 2001. He was in his 90th year. Cameron was the fourth generation of Edgars to live and farm on "The Hill" farm, RR 3, Ayr. He was a member of Knox United Church, Ayr and had served as a director of Ayr Farmers' Mutual and the Ayr Cemetery Board. Born on the Edgar farm, he was a son of William T. Edgar and Jeannie Laurie. Dear husband of the late Margaret Telfer (1994); loved father of Robert and Bonnie of RR 3, Ayr and much loved grandfather of Ryan, Bronwen, Lowell and Keeley; dear brother of Mary Curnoe of Islington. Predeceased by infant son, Bruce (1952); daughter Sheila (1970) and sister, Kathryn MacLellan (1979). Funeral service was held from the Ayr Chapel of Wm. Kipp Funeral Home on Monday, September 3rd at 1: 30 p.m. Rev. Fred Hagle of Knox United Church officiated. Interment Ayr Cemetery.

    A popular local girl, Sheila .lean Edgar, 17, RR 3, Ayr, died suddenly early Saturday morning in an auto crash. The car Miss Edgar was driving, left the road on an S-turn approaching the Twin Bridges which span the Nith River, 1/2-mile south 0o Perry's Corners, just Past the Henri Boterberg farm.

    The car which had landed in the river was not fiiund until 9 am Saturday when it as spotted by Mr. Boterberg and his son Robert. who were driving by the scene on a farm tractor. At the same time, three men who were hunting nearby, came to the scene. 'I'hey called the Woodstock O. P. P. who investigated. Miss Edgar had been baby-sitting with two other girls at the Harry Edgar residence. RR 3. Bright. during the evening. Prior to the accident she had driven home friends who lived in the Washington area.

    Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Cameron Edgar. became alarmed when she failed to return home. A search of district roads failed to locate the car until it was spotted by the Boterbergs in the morning.

    Sheila was a Grade 12 student at Southwood Secondary School, Galt. She was a member of Knox Church, Ayr and of the Knox Young Peoples' group. She was also an active member of the 4-H Homemaking Club.

    Surviving besides her parents is a brober, Robert. at home.

    Funeral service was conducted by Rev D. E. Willis of Ayr from Little's Funeral Home, Galt on Tuesday afternoon. Internment in Ayr Cemetery. Pallbearers were Gordon McRuer. Alex Edgar. William Kinaird. Alden Cochrane. Allan Edgar and George Gillespie.
