    ____________________________

William B. Black Passes Away at Toronto - The death occurred with startling suddenness at Toronto on Wednesday morning, October 10th of William B. Black, son of Mr. John Black, of Ayr. Apparently in the best of health and spirits he was seized with an attack caused by tumor of the brain, and despite the best of medical attention he expired in a few hours. Owing to the suddenness of the attack, none of his relatives were able to reach him before he passed away, but, fortunately, a friend from Calgary, Mrs. (Dr.) McLaughlin, was visiting in the city and was able to reach his bedside before the end came. Deceased who was 29 years of age, was born on his father's farm, a short distance south-west of the village, and entered the Ayr branch of the Bank of Commerce some 15 years ago, subsequently being transferred to Prince Albert, Sask. During the war he enlisted with the Royal Air Force, where, he attained the rank of sub-lieutenant. At the conclusion of the conflict he re-entered the service of the Bank of Commerce, acting for a time as travelling auditor in the district between Winnipeg and Calgary, and later doing duty in the Calgary and Provost branches. About ten days prior to his decease he was transferred to the Foreign Dept., Head Office, Toronto, where he was undergoing special training preparatory to taking a post in South America. He was very popular among his associates in the bank, as well as with numerous former friends and school mates in this district, and his sudden death will be much regretted. In religion he was a Presbyterian, and a young man of high moral standards, who bade fair to attain high rank in his chosen field of life work. Besides his ? he is survived by 3 brothers, viz.: J. Robt. Black, Chinook, Alta.; J. Scott Black, Detroit, and Geo. R. Black, at home. The funeral took place on Monday afternoon to Ayr cemetery and was attended by a large number of friends and relatives. During the service the casket was draped with a union jack by comrades H. Griffin and J. T. Gillies, who represented the local G.W.V.A. Rev. J. J. Brown conducted the funeral services, and the pallbearers were: Messrs. George Inglis Black, Wyllie Watson, Robert Edgar, George William Black, William T. Edgar and T. Glendon Black. The relatives and friends from a distance who attended the obsequies were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Black, Wroxeter; Mr. and Mrs. J. Scott Black, Detroit; Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Singer, Toronto; Mrs. Wm. Buckingham and daughter, and Mrs. McKenzie and sons, Lucknow; Messrs. Wm. and James Bueglass, Bright; Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Cullen, Woodstock; Miss Hazel Mitchell and Mr. and Mrs. C. K. Currie, Drumbo; Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Edgar and Mr. Robert Edgar, Howick. Among the floral tributes were the following: From the General Manager and officials in the head office of the Canadian Bank of Commerce; from the War Service Club, Canadian Bank of Commerce; from Mrs. (Dr.) McLaughlan, Calgary ; and many from neighbors and relatives.
