    A Fine Old Pioneer

Passing of John Lillico, a Prominent Resident of Blenheim -
    Sentinel-Review, April 24)

The news was received from Drumbo today of the death of Mr. John Lillico, one of the best known and most prominent residents of the Township of Blenheim. Mr. Lillico had been hale and hearty until about six months ago, since which time he has been confined entirely to his home. Old age was the probable cause of death, he being 86 years of age. Mr. Lillico was a member of an intelligent, God-fearing family of five sons and three daughters, who came from Scotland many years ago and settled on Lot 5 in the 10th Con. of Blenheim, when the township was .almost a wilderness. Douglas Lillico, the father of the deceased, was one of the first settlers of the Township of Blenheim, and John Lillico was the last survivor of his five sons. By hard work and intelligent management all of the members of the family prospered, the descendants now being scattered over the northern part of Blenheim and owning some of the very finest farms. Douglas Lillico, the present reeve of Blenheim is a nephew of deceased. A sister, Miss Mary of the 11th con. of Blenheim, survives him. His wife predeceased him quite at number of years ago. Deceased took an active interest in the political history of the country and was well informed in all political matters. He was one of the strong and earnest supporters of the Liberal party and was well known for the argumentative manner in which he could support the positions which he took on the great political questions of the day. He also took a great interest in municipal matters and was, at one time, a member of the Municipal Council of his native township. He had lived on the farm, lot 11, in the 9th concession of Blenheim for a period of sixty years, being one of the early pioneers, and assisted in clearing the fine farm on which he lived and died. A highly respected family of sons and daughters survive him. One of his daughters live in Winnipeg and another is Mrs. H. Davidson of the 11thconcession of Blenheim Township. His son John lives on the old homestead. Deceased was a prominent member and supporter of the Presbyterian Church and was always noted for his punctuality of attendance at the various diets of worship at his church in Drumbo. The funeral took place on Monday afternoon, interment being made in Ayr cemetery.
