    Demise of Mrs. John Petrie In Her 78th Year - The death occurred in Smith's Falls on Friday, January 18th, of Aurilla Cassady, relict of the late John Petrie, in her 78th year. In the passing of Mrs. Petrie Blenheim Township loses one of its oldest inhabitants, she having lived in that township for a number of years. She also resided in South Dumfries for a long period of time. During her lifetime deceased had witnessed many changes and had seen greet developments in the fields of art, science, commerce and invention. She was born in Oakland, Ontario Township, in 1851, and married the late John Petrie in 1873. Deceased was a member of Knox United Church and all who knew her can testify as to her fine, Christian character. The family comprised five members, viz.: Mrs. William H. Patterson, Blenheim; John A. Petrie, Paris; Daniel (deceased); Mrs. (Dr.) M. Pilkey, Coburg, and Mrs. (Dr.) J. G. Davidson, Smith's Falls. One brother Daniel, of Paris, and one sister, Mrs. Marshall Daniel, of Hamilton, also survive. The funeral took place on Monday to the Ayr Cemetery with Rev. J. W. Currie conducting the services. The pallbearers were: James Lillico, Walter Barrie, James Welsh, Andrew E. Laurie, George Easton and Adam Douglas.

    Mrs. W. H. Patterson - The death occurred on Friday, following an illness of one month, of Mrs. Wm. H. Patterson, Blenheim township, in her 56th year. Deceased, whose maiden, name was Jane Petrie, was born in South Dumfries township, where she resided until her marriage some 26 years ago. She was a lifelong member of Knox United Church and for many years took an active part in the work of the different women's organizations. Mrs. Patterson was a talented pianist, and was a member of the former well-known Petrie orchestra. She was a woman of kindly disposition, with a keen intellect, and was highly esteemed by many friends and neighbors. Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons, James Patterson, at home, and John W. Patterson, B.A., of Queens University, Kingston; also by one brother and two sisters, as follows: John A. Petrie, Hamilton; Mrs. (Dr.) M. Pilkey, Cobourg, and Mrs. (Dr.) J. G. Davidson, Smiths Falls. There was a large number of sorrowing relatives and friends at the funeral on Sunday afternoon to the Ayr Cemetery. The services were in charge of Rev. J. W. Currie and the pallbearers were as follows: James Welsh, Walter Barrie, George Easton, Andrew E. Laurie, Thomas Easton and Wm. F. Clarke.

    Rev. Ur. J. W. Patterson

    One of Lachine's greatly admired and beloved citizens, Rev. Dr. John William Patterson. Minister Emeritus of St. Andrew's United Church. Lachine, died suddenly on December 6th at Lachine General Hospital. Dr. Patterson who began his pastorate at St. Andrew's United Church, January 1st, 1936, retired from the active ministry in June of this year, but had continued to serve the congregation until his death. Born in Ayr, Ontario, Dr. Patterson entered the Queen's University with highest matriculation standing as Nicholls Foundation Scholar in 1924 and graduated in 1926 with honours in Classics. Upon graduation he entered Queen's Theological College receiving his Bachelor of Divinity degree. During his student years he served as student minister at Lavant, Ontario, and Inverary, Ontario, continuing for five years at Inverary after ordination. Dr. Patterson took an active role in both church and community work and held many important offices. Among the offices he held were: secretary-treasurer of Kingston Presbytery, presidencies and chairmanships of Montreal Ministerial Association, Montreal Presbytery, Canadian Christian Endeavour Union, Lachine Benevolent Society, Lachine Home and School Association, Lakeshore Kiwanis Club, Queen's Theological Alumni Association and up to the present was a member of the Board of Governors; Commissioner to two General Councils of the United Church of Canada; Conference Convenor of the General Council Committee on the Evangelistic Mission to the Nation; Commissioner to the Protestant School Board of Lachine; Padre of the Canadian Legion, Lachine branch, and Chaplain of Lachine General Hospital. In 1957 the United Theological College of McGill University conferred the degree of Doctor of Divinity honoris causa upon Dr. Patterson with the citation "in recognition of outstanding work in the Pastorate and distinguished service in the Presbytery and in the Church at large." During his ministry at St. Andrew's United Church, Dr. Patterson became a byword in Lachine; loved and respected throughout the community. A pioneer in the ecumenical movement, he was a friend to all, regardless of race or creed and worked tirelessly towards the union of all Christians and the well being of all peoples. Dr. Patterson is survived by his wife, the former Inez Browning, daughter Marian of New York City and son William of Vancouver. The funeral service took place at St. Andrew's United Church, Saturday, December 10th. Interment at Ayr Cemetery, Ayr, Ontario.

    Late James A. Patterson - Funeral Took Place to Ayr Cemetery on Friday - The sudden death occurred at Belleville General Hospital on Wednesday, March 24 of James Alexander Patterson, in his 23rd year. Deceased had shown much improvement in health until suddenly taken ill one week previous to his death. He was born in Blenheim township, and since last September was a student at Albert College, Belleville, where he was held in high esteem by his teachers and was popular with his fellow students. He was always of a cheerful and friendly disposition, and very energetic in whatever work he attempted. He was a member of Knox United Church, Ayr. He is survived by his father, William H. Patterson of Blenheim township, and one brother, the Rev. J. W. Patterson, of Inverary, Ontario. The funeral took place from his father's residence on Friday afternoon to the Ayr Cemetery, the services being conducted by the Rev. J. W. Currie, pastor of Knox United Church. The pallbearers were: John Welsh, Walter Barrie, Jr., Cameron Edgar, Rodger Laurie, Robert Robertson and George Smye, Jr. Among the many beautiful floral tributes were those from: The Faculty and Staff of Albert College, Belleville; the Student Body, Albert College: Inverary United Church, Latimer United Church, Inverary L.O.L. 336.
