"Glick's Hotel". Operated some years prior to 1854 first by Mr. Glick and later by his widow (grandmother of Abram and Charles). Later still by their mother, Catharine, who afterwards married Andreas Wehrle, father of Charlie Hespeler's wife, Lena. The Hotel was afterwards rented to George Devitt who in the years 1871-73 operated it as "The Devitt House" and in 1874, John Fields was tenant, and the name "The Fields House." Charles Glick ran it as a Temperance House, 1879-81.

DEATH OF MRS. J. GLICK.

Died in Hespeler on Jan. 29th, Mrs. Jacob Glick, sr.. in her 80th year. The funeral took place Thursday afternoon. Mrs. Glick, whose maiden name was Catherine Shermer, was born in Schwartzburg, province of Rudelstad Germany, on Nov. 26, 1821, and emigrated to Canada in 1849, settling in Preston, where she was united in marriage to Jacob Glick about a year afterwards. Mrs. G. and her husband resided in Preston for about five years and then removed to New Hope, her husband dying five years later.

The union was blessed by three children, Abraham and Charles, who reside in Hespeler, and Minnie, now Mrs. C. Smith, who resides near Pittsburg, Penn. In 1858 Mrs, Glick was again married, her second husband being Andrew Werlich, now deceased, one daughter, Lena, was the issue of the second marriage. She became the wife of Charles Hespeler, and died about fifteen years ago, leaving one daughter, Wilhelmina, who has since resided with her grandmother, the deceased. Mrs. Glick resided here before the railway was built, and when New Hope flourished and surged ahead under Jacob Hespeler's regime, ahe acquired considerable property.

IMPROVEMENT IN HESPELER.-We lately had the pleasure of inspecting a New Hall, built in this flourishing village by Mrs Glick, as an addition to her tavern. The building is two storeys in height, built of stone; and the Hall itself is 80 feet long by 40 in width. The Hall will be opened on New Year's night next by a Ball, at which all the world and his wife will doubtless be present. Mrs Glick is known to get up the best Balls in the neighbourhood; and she intends to surpass even herself on New Year's night next.

AGED HESPELER MERCHANT DEAD

Charles Glick Age 85 Found In Little Room At Rear Of Store

HESPELER March 12-Charles Glick 85 who operated a shoe and leather store in the town was found dead on the floor of his room at the rear of the store at noon today. His neighbor Fred Rung called Dr. Hutcheson and Chief Wilson and the store was broken into.

Rung had visited him at six o'clock last night and he appeared in his usual health. This morning the store was unopened. His neighbor thought he had slept in but when the store still was not opened at noon, nor did he hear the radio as usual, he notified the doctor and police chief and broke the window in the door to gain entrance.

Mr. Glick was born in Preston June 17 1851. He came to Hespeler when a child, and Is later years worked as a drygoods clerk for John Braid. This store is now Ptrong's bookstore. Later Mr. Glick opened a clothing store, now part of Guenther's jewellery store. This was called Glick's block. After that in 1906, he opened a shoe store which he has conducted ever since.

One sister Mrs. Smith of Pittsburg, Pa., survives. Mrs Anthony Oakes of Preston, widow of the late Dr. Oakes, and Mrs. Wilhelmina Henderson of Seattle are nieces.

Accident Victim Buried Today In Local Cemetery

The funeral of the late Albert Glick, who was killed Sunday evening on the Preston-Breslau road when an automobile in charge of Edward McTearnan ditched, took place from the residence of Dr. Anthony Oaks on King street this afternoon at 2.30 o'clock. Services were held at the house with interment in Preston cemetery. The late Mr. Glick had for some years been a resident of Preston having lived on Waterloo street in the home now occupied by David Amodeo. After leaving Preston he went to Detroit and of late has been working in Galt where he has been boarding. The deceased was predeceased by his wife some years ago and is survived by four daughters and one son. They are Mrs. Spears, Detroit; Mrs. Frank, Toronto; Mrs. Burns, Detroit; Miss Margaret, Detroit, and Parker Glick, Detroit. Mrs. (Dr.) Oaks is a sister.

The Norfolk United church parsonage in Guelph was the scene of a quiet wedding of local interest on Saturday afternoon, when the marriage took place of Isabel Mary Oaks, B.A., fifth daughter of Dr. Anthony Oaks and Mrs. Oaks, King street, and Mr. William H. Graham, B.A., of St. Mary's, second son of Mrs. Graham and the late J. White Graham. Thy young couple are graduates of the University of Toronto. Rev. Humphrey Graham, uncle of the groom, performed the ceremony. They were attended by Miss Margaret Glick and Mr. Frederick Derwant, both of Detroit. Mr. and Mrs. Graham left on a short motor trip, and on their return will reside in St. Mary's. The bride is well known locally, having been librarian at the Preston public library for the past year.
