    Mrs. Arthur S. Pitcher

    PRESTON - Mrs. Arthur S. Pitcher, of 133 Waterloo St. N., died today at South Waterloo Hospital, Galt. She was 83. Born in Cincinnatti, she was the former Gertrude Dressell. She lived in Brantford before moving to Preston 36 years ago. Her husband died in 1962. She was a member of St. Paul's United Church, the Eastern Star, Preston Chapter the women's institute, the Golden Rule Bible class, and the United Church Women. Surviving are one son, Donald of Preston; two daughters, Mrs. Edward (Eleanor) Ranscombe and Mrs. Borden (Jessie) Proctor, both of Preston; one brother, William of Cincinnatti; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by one son, Russell, in 1937. The body is at the Barthel-Stager Funeral Home where Rev. Ian Fleming will conduct a service Wednesday at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Preston cemetery.

    Wismer, Eleanor

    On August 18, 1997, after a brief illness, Eleanor Gertrude (Pitcher), succumbed at Cambridge Memorial Hospital. Eleanor was the beloved mother of Eleanor Anne (Bob Rumley) of Oakville, Betty (Jack Barnes) of Cambridge, Linda (Larry Miske) of Desboro and Jim Ranscombe (Dianne Hood) of Toronto. Dear Gram of David and Peter Rumley, Ron and Cory Barnes, Lee and Lincoln Miske, Sally and William Ranscombe, Special great-gram of Amanda, Jason and Rebecca Rumley. Born Oct. 2, 1915, in Brantford. Eleanor was a keen observer of politics, a supporter of the Girl Guide movement, a former First Lady of the Preston Fire Department and a avid walker and a master crocheter. She is survived by her sister, Jessie of Cambridge and was predeceased by her loving husbands; Ted Ranscombe (1965) and Norman Wismer (1982), brothers, Donald and Russell and parents, Arthur Smith Pitcher and Gertrude Dressell Pitcher. At Mom's request, a private family service was held.

    Passed away peacefully, at Cambridge Memorial Hospital, on Sunday, January 25, 2009, in her 92nd year. Jessie (nee Pitcher), beloved wife of the late Borden Proctor (1972). Loving mother of Gary Proctor and his wife Kathy, and Trudy Riddell and her husband Terry. Dearly loved grandmother of Christopher, Curtis, Becky, Sara and Brian and great-grandmother of Faith, Jessica, Zachary, Maddi, Kailey, Emily, Tanner and Olivia. Predeceased by her parents, Arthur and Gertrude (Dressell) Pitcher; one sister, Eleanor Ranscombe Wismer and three brothers, Donald, Russell and Stephen Pitcher. Mrs. Proctor, was born in Brantford and had been a longtime resident of Preston. She retired at the age of 75 and was involved in many areas of community volunteer work. She was a member of Knox Preston Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends at the Barthel Funeral Home, 566 Queenston Road, Cambridge on Wednesday, from 1-4 and 7-9 p.m. The Funeral Service will be conducted at Knox Preston Presbyterian Church, 132 Argyle Street N., Cambridge on Thursday, January 29, 2009, at 1: 30 p.m., with Rev. Bill Bynum officiating. Interment in Parklawn Cemetery, Cambridge.

    PITCHER, Donald Arthur

    Of 380 Champlain Blvd., Cambridge, on Saturday, March 12, 1994, at Cambridge Memorial Hospital, in his 81st year. Beloved husband of Gladys Hawkins; dear father of Terence and his wife Barbara, Douglas and his wife Linda, all of Cambridge and Donna and her husband Paul Baldwin of Brantford. Lovingly remembered by six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and two sisters, Eleanor Wismer and Jessie Proctor, both of Cambridge. Predeceased by his parents and one brother, Russell in 1937. Mr. Pitcher was born in Brantford and moved to Cambridge in 1931. He was in the Amusement Rides Industry for 24 years retiring in 1975. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church, Preston Masonic Lodge No. 297 AF & AM, a life member of Preston-Hespeler Rotary and Paul Harris Fellow and an Honorary Doctorite of Humanities of University of Chicago as well as a veteran of the Second World War. Cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends at the Barthel Funeral Home, 566 Queenston Rd. Cambridge, Tuesday evening, 7-9 p.m. A memorial service will be conducted by Rev. Margaret Collard at St. Paul's United Church, 450 King St. E., Cambridge, Wednesday, March 16. 1994 at 2 p.m.

    RUSSELL EARL PITCHER

    PRESTON, July 29 - Following an operation at Kitchener, the death occurred yesterday of Russell Earl Pitcher, eight-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Pitcher of Preston. The deceased lad was born in Brantford, but had lived here for six years. He attended Central public school and the United church. Surviving are his parents, two sisters, Mrs. E. Ranscombe of Preston, Jessie at home, and one brother, Donald, of Preston. The funeral will be held Friday afternoon from the family residence at 401 Laurel street at 2.30 o'clock. Interment will be made in Preston cemetery.
