    Of 558 Hamilton St., Cambridge, on Friday, March 12, 1993, at Cambridge Memorial Hospital, on his 79th birthday. Beloved husband of Edith Jane Thomson; dear father of John and his wife Cathy of Maryhill, Richard of Burnaby, B.C., Doug and his wife Jane of Kitchener, Judy Steeb and her husband Harold of Hanover, Brenda McGaghey and her husband Peter, also of Hanover. Lovingly remembered by 11 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one brother, Leonard Hertel of Cambridge. Predeceased by his parents and one sister; Florence Stratton. Mr. Hertel was born in Cambridge and was a lifelong resident. He was employed for many years at Clare Bros. of Cambridge and retired 16 years ago. He was a member of St. John's Anglican Church, the Preston Masonic Lodge No. 297 and a Past Principal of the Preston Chapter of the Royal Arch Masons No. 245 G.R.C. The family will receive friends at the Barthel Funeral Home, 586 Queenston Rd., Cambridge, Saturday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home Sunday, March 14 at 1: 30 p.m. Interment Preston Cemetery.

    HERTEL, John Alexander - Of Maryhill, Ont., on Monday, April 16, 2007, at the K-W Health Centre, in his 74th year. Beloved husband of Catherine Findlay. Dear father of Randy and his wife Laurie of Breslau, Barbara Privatt and her husband Leigh of Kitchener and Gail Hertel of Conestogo. Lovingly remembered by six grandchildren, Grant, Geoff, Kristin, Jacob, Liana and Chase and two great-grandchildren, Amanda and Brooke. Sadly missed by his brother, Douglas and his wife Jane of Cambridge and his sisters, Brenda McGaghey and her husband Peter of Owen Sound and Judith Steeb of Durham. Predeceased by his parents, Alex and Edith Hertel and one brother, Richard. Mr. Hertel was born in Preston and had been a lifelong resident of the area, residing in Maryhill for the past 23 years. He was the proud owner/operator of Plastic Prescriptions Ltd. for 39 years, a member of St. John's Anglican Church, and retired as the Church Board Treasurer this past January. He was also a past Master of the Waterloo Masonic Lodge No. 539 AF&AM, Scottish Rite of Guelph, Moore Consistory of Hamilton, Waterloo County Shrine and Mocha Temple of London. The family will receive friends at the Barthel Funeral Home, 566 Queenston Road, Cambridge on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, April 19, 2007 at St. John's Anglican Church, 567 Queenston Road, Cambridge at 1 p.m. with Canon David Bowyer officiating. Interment in Parklawn Cemetery, Cambridge. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario or the Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated by the family.     Death Notice of Judith Steeb

    Judith Carol Steeb (nee Hertel) of Durham, Ontario passed away at London Health Sciences Centre \endash University Hospital on Thursday, August 11, 2022 at the age of 81. Loving Mother of Mark Steeb (wife Jackie), and Suzanne (late husband Glen Miller), and Cherished Grandmother of Cody Steeb (fiancee Danielle) and Taylor Steeb. Dear Sister of Brenda McGaghey, and also remembered by her sisters-in-law Jane Hertel, and Muriel Steeb and her brother-in-law Richard Steeb. Loving Aunt to all of her nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents Alexander and Edith Hertel and her brothers John, Richard and Doug Hertel.

    Judith was an avid Curler starting in earlier years in Bay Ridges at the Annandale Curling Club, then joining the Hanover Curling Club and finally to Durham throwing rocks with all of her friends. She loved Gardening, loved people that gardened, everything gardening made her happy. Judith was an avid reader and was never found without at least 3 books on the go. She will be missed by all that loved her.

    Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at the Durham Legion on Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at 11 a.m., followed by a celebration of life where further memories of Judith can be shared until 1 p.m.

    Douglas William Hertel DECEMBER 11, 1943 \endash FEBRUARY 24, 2021

    Beloved husband of Jane (nee Eltherington) for 53 years. Loving father of Stephen (Dan) and Samantha (Alex). Proud Papa to Reece and Kaine. Doug will also be lovingly remembered by his sisters Judith Steeb and Brenda McGaghey, mother in-law Lillian Eltherington, brother in-law John Eltherington, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

    He was predeceased by his brothers John and Richard Hertel.

    Doug retired from C.P Rail after 35 years of service. He enjoyed golfing and gardening in the summer and hockey in the winter, but he loved spending time at the "lakehouse" with the dogs and yelling at the umpires at his grandsons' baseball games. His perpetual smiling face will be missed.

    In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place and a private interment will take place at a later date.
