    Levi R. Witmer, "was born May 23rd, 1844. He was married, May 14th, 1878, to Mary Cober. They reside near Preston, on the old "Witmer Farm" and have a family of four children, namely: Albert, Jesse, Minnie, and Leslie."

    Witmer. - Levi Witmer died May 7, 1916, on the farm near Preston, Ont., where he was born May 23, 1844, and spent his entire life; aged 71 y. 11 m. 14 d. He was married May 14, 1878, to Mary G. Cober, who survives. To them were born 3 sons, and 1 daughter. Two sons, the daughter, and 2 grandchildren are surviving. He became a member of the Mennonite Church about 25 years ago, and has since endeavored to live a consistent life. About one year after joining the church he was ordained as a deacon. A few hours before his departure, he spoke of the next Sunday being communion services, and expressed a desire to have communion in the home on that day. He was buried on May 9, at Wanner's near Hespeler, where services were conducted by Benj. Shantz and David S. Wismer. Text, I Thes. 4: 18

    Witmer. - Jesse Andrew Witmer was born in Waterloo Tp., Waterloo Co., Ont. On July 9, 1882; died Sept. 15, 1916; aged 34 y. 2 m. 6 d. On Jan 10, 1910, he was united in marriage to Sophia Snyder, who with a young daughter and son, his mother, a sister, and a brother survive to mourn his untimely departure. His father predeceased him only last May. Eight days previous to his death he had the misfortune to fall into the cylinder of a threshing machine which necessitated the amputation of 3 toes. Later tetanus or lockjaw developed, which was the cause of his death. Early in life he united with the Mennonite Church and has been an ardent worker in the Sunday school, being superintendent for three years past. He will indeed be missed much in the home, the church, and the community; but we trust in Him who doeth all things well. Funeral services were conducted at the Wanner Church on Sept. 18 by Oscar Burkholder and Benjamin Schantz. Text, Psa. 39: 4.

    At the Fairview Mennonite Home, Cambridge, Thursday, July 14, 1977, Rosy Cober, beloved sister of Leslie Witmer and Mrs. Minnie Hunsberger of Cambridge, in her 95th year. Miss Cober was born in Puslinch Township and has been a resident at Fairview Mennonite Home, since 1958. A member of Evangel Missionary Church, Kitchener. Family will receive friends at the Barthel-Stager Funeral Home, 566 Queenston Rd., Cambridge (Preston), Friday afternoon and evening. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, July 16, at 10: 30 a.m. Interment in Hagey cemetery.

    Hunsberger, Minnie Amelia Witmer, daughter of Levi and Mary Witmer, was born in Cambridge, Ont., June 20, 1887; died at Cambridge, Ont., Dec. 25, 1987; aged 100 y. She was married to Noah Hunsberger, who preceded her in death. Surviving are one son (David), one daughter (Grace Gingerich), 2 stepsons (John and Paul), 15 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.

    HUNSBERGER, Mrs. Minnie A. - At Fairview Mennonite Home, Cambridge, on Friday, Dec. 25, 1987, age 100 years.

    Mrs. Hunsberger had attended Erb Street Mennonite Church, Waterloo and St. Jacobs Mennonite Church.

    Dear mother of David and his wife Katherine of St. Jacobs and Grace and her husband Newton Gingerich of Baden. She is also fondly remembered by two step-sons, John and his wife Gladys of London, Ont. and Paul and his wife Edna of Waterloo and Goshen, Ind., 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

    She was predeceased by her husband, Rev. Noah Hunsberger, who was pastor of Erb Street Mennonite Church for many years; three brothers, Albert, Jesse and Leslie D. Witmer and one foster sister, Rosie Cober and her parents, Mary and Levi Witmer.

    Mrs. Hunsberger's family will receive friends at the Edward R. Good Funeral Home; 171 King St. S., Waterloo, from 7-9 p.m. this evening and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday. At noon Monday, transfer will be made to Erb Street Mennonite Church for the funeral service at 2:30 p.m., with Rev. Wilmer Martin and Rev. Rufus Jutzi officiating. Interment to follow in Erb Street Mennonite cemetery.

    Donations to the Mennonite Mission Board or Fairview Mennonite Home, would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.

    This drawing of a Mennonite man, entitled "Traveling," was created by Minnie Hunsberger at age 89. Minnie was a daughter of Levi Witmer (1884-1916) and Mary Cober (1849-1926), of Waterloo Township. She married Rev. Noah Hunsberger (1877-1958) in 1926 and they had two children. Minnie was an amateur artist, creating ink drawings and Scherenschnitte (cut paper works).

Surviving are 2 sons (Stewart and Bruce), 2 daughters (Beatrice - Mrs. Norman Shantz and Helen - Mrs. Joseph Burkholder), 16 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and one sister (Minnie Hunsberger).     Witmer.-Verena Ida, the only daughter of Mrs. Jesse A. Witmer, was born in Waterloo Co., Ont., on Nov. 18, 1910; passed away at Preston, Ont., May 24, 1936; aged 25 y. 6 m. 6 d. She had been in failing health for some time and the end came peacefully on the above date. In her early years she accepted Christ as her personal Savior and became a member of the Blenheim Mennonite congregation. She bore her affliction with Christian fortitude, expressing a love for her Savior, keeping on the victory side, and manifested a keen interest in the mission cause. She left a bright testimony and expressed a desire to depart and be with her Lord. Her mother is the lone survivor, her father having died twenty years ago, and a brother a year later. Funeral services were held on May 26 with services at the home by Bro. B. B. Shantz and at the Hagey Church with Bro. B. B. Shantz in charge, assisted by M. H. Shantz. Text, Psa. 39: 4, 5. Burial in the Wanner Cemetery.

    WITMER, W. Stewart "Gone to be with his Lord" Passed away peacefully at Fairview Mennonite Home, Cambridge on Friday, July 2, 2010 at age 91. Beloved husband of Mary E. Witmer (nee Shantz) for 63 wonderful years. Loving father of Paul and Mary Witmer, Elsie and Jim Hochstedler and Esther and Bruce Cressman. Dearly loved grandfather of Heather and husband Anthony Willemsen, Lorie and husband Mark Cressman, Kevin and Joni Witmer, Andrew and Melissa Cressman, Jonathan Cressman and Mark Cressman and his fiancé Katy Duerrstein and great-grandfather of Carter and Makenna Cressman, Julia and Evan Willemsen. Dear brother of Beatrice and Norman Shantz, Helen and Joe Burkholder, Bruce and Pat Witmer and brotherin- law of Irene Kinzie. He will be sadly missed by his extended family and friends. Predeceased by his parents Leslie and Elma Witmer, son John Witmer (1959), grandson Jeremey Hochstedler (1983) and sister-in-law Joyce Witmer (2009). Stewart was a lifelong resident of Cambridge and an active member of Preston Mennonite Church and the Holstein Friesian Association. He volunteered for the Canadian Cancer Society for 20 years as well as House of Friendship. The family will receive friends at Fairview Mennonite Home, 515 Langs Drive, Cambridge on Tuesday, July 6, 2010 from 2-4 p.m. and at the Barthel Funeral Home, 566 Queenston Road, Cambridge on Tuesday, July 6, 2010 from 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service at Preston Mennonite Church, 791 Concession Road, Cambridge on Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at 11 a.m. Interment Hagey Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations to Mennonite Central Committee would be appreciated by the family.

Mother of Jim (Lorraine), Richard, Ruth Lawrence (Bruce), Ed (Diane), Kathy Shantz (Reg Good), Robert (Judy). Lovingly remembered by 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Survived by sister, Helen Burkholder (Joe), brother Bruce Witmer (Pat) and sister-in-law Mary Witmer. Predeceased by brother Stewart Witmer, sister-in-law Joyce Witmer, brother-in-law Gordon Shantz (Elizabeth) and sister-in-law Irene Kinzie (Elton). Born in Preston and after her marriage to Norman moved to the Shantz homestead near Black Horse Corners, Ayr. Longtime faithful member of Nith Valley Mennonite Church, New Hamburg. Was dedicated to her family, church and community and was known for her love of quilting, cross-stitching, baking and volunteering. Family and friends will be received at Fairview Mennonite Home, 515 Langs Drive, Cambridge on Thursday, April 26, 2012 from 7-9 p.m. and Friday, April 27, 2012 from 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. Committal at Detweiler Cemetery, Roseville. The family wishes to thank the staff at Fairview for their caring and compassion.
