    Notes:

    A.R. Goudie was founder of one of western Ontario's largest family-owned department stores, Goudies, Ltd. He was among the first in Canada to encourage employees to be shareholders.

    A charter member of the Ontario Pioneer Community Foundation, he donated the Dry Goods and Grocery Store to Doon Pioneer Village.

    A native of Hespeler, he began his career as an apprentice to the Forbes woollen mills. He later travelled for the Ontario Button Company.

    In 1909, he became manager and vice-president of Weseloh-Goudies, Ltd. When the store was destroyed by fire in 1918, Mr. Goudie rebuilt it as Goudies, Ltd.

    He served as Ontario and national president of the Ontario Retail Merchants Association. An active supporter of many community organizations, Goudie's generosity made possible the building of the A.R. Goudie Eventide Home in Kitchener.

    May 18. Arthur Goudie, 76, was the founder of one of Ontario's largest family-owned department stores. In his native Hespeler he was employed by R. Forbes Ltd. before travelling for the Ontario Button Co. Later he became manager and vice-president of Weseloh-Goudies Ltd. When this store was destroyed by fire in 1918, he rebuilt it as Goudies Ltd. and this firm was one of the first in Canada to encourage employees to be shareholders. Mr. Goudie was national president of the Retail Merchants Association from 1936 to 1941. His participation in community service included the Salvation Army, Kiwanis Club, Children's Aid Society and Kitchener Council as alderman in 1931. A charter member of the Ontario Pioneer Community Foundation, he donated the old-fashioned Delaware store for the village near Doon.

    HATCH, Hope M. (nee Goudle)

    Went Home to be with her Lord and beloved family members, at Cambridge Country Manor, on Monday, Oct. 2, 1995, age 85 years. Mrs. Hatch was born in Kitchener and was a daughter of the late Alice Weseloh and Arthur Goudie. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, James L. Hatch and one brother, Stuart Goudie. She was a graduate in home economics from the University of Toronto, a former Auxiliary member of the A.R. Goudie Salvation Army Eventide Home and had attended First Baptist Church in Waterloo. While a resident of Altoona, PA, Mrs. Hatch, along with her husband was a member of First Baptist Church. Loving mother of Mary Beth and Bruce Wiegand of Waterloo and Stuart and Jean Hatch of Kitchener. She is also fondly remembered by her grandchildren, Robert and Effie, Heather and Cameron Wiegand, Andrea, Jamie and Blair Hatch; her step-mother, Olive Goudie of Kitchener and sisters-in-law, Marion Goudie of Kitchener and Esther Aurandt of Altoona, PA. Mrs. Hatch's family will receive friends at the Edward R. Good Funeral Home, 171 King St. S.. Waterloo, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today (Wednesday). The funeral and committal service will be held in the chapel of the funeral home on Thursday at 11 a.m., with Rev. Clarence McClenaghan officiating. Entombment in Woodland Mausoleum, Kitchener.

    In Memory of Mary Beth Wiegand 1939 - 2018

    With great sadness, the family of Mary Beth Wiegand announce her passing on Thursday, February 1, 2018 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 78.

    Devoted wife of Bruce, dear sister to Stuart (Jean) Hatch and loving mother of Robert (Jeanette), Heather (Jan) and Cameron. She will be fondly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, precious grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as many friends and extended family.

    Predeceased by her parents James and Hope Hatch.

    Mary Beth was a kind, compassionate lady who enjoyed socializing with family and friends. She was an active member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Kitchener and their Women's Missionary Society. She was also actively involved in Women's Probus. Mary Beth enjoyed travelling and had the opportunity to see many fascinating places.

    Visitation will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo on Tuesday, February 6 from 1-4 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at 11 a.m. A reception will immediately follow in the funeral home's Fireside Room. Interment will take place at Mount Hope Cemetery, Kitchener.
