    Mrs. Charles W. Schaefer - By Record Staff Writer - New Hamburg - Mrs. Charles W. Schaefer, 77, of 225 Waterloo St., died Wednesday at K-W Hospital, Kitchener. She was the former Emma Ruthig, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Ruthig. She was born in Wellesley Township and had operated the Schaefer grocery store in New Hamburg for 52 years. She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church. Her husband died in 1917, and a son, Walter, died in 1952. Surviving are a son, Lorne of New Hamburg; three daughters, Mrs. Nicholas (Grace) Klassen and Mrs. Constantine (Delores) Klassen, both of New Hamburg, and Marie of Kitchener; one brother, Alfred of New Hamburg and nine grandchildren. The body will be at the Futher-Omand Funeral Home until noon Saturday when removal will be made to St. Peter's Lutheran Church for a service at 2 pm. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.

    Klassen, Grace (nee Schaefer) A.T.C.M. - Of New Hamburg, died, peacefully, at her residence, Nithview Home, in her 98th year. Loving mother of Connie and husband Martin Bender of Kitchener. Dear grandmother of Jeff Bender, Dr. Jennifer Bender, Tom Bender and Robin Bender. Sadly missed by her sister-in-law, Elaine Schaefer of New Hamburg and several nieces and nephews. Grace was predeceased by her husband, Nicklas Klassen, January 6, 1993; parents, Charles and Emma (Ruthig) Schaefer; sisters, Dolores (Pet) Klassen and husband Constantine, Marie Schaefer; brothers, Walter Schaefer and Lorne Schaefer. Grace was the last surviving member of her family. She will be missed by her many friends and family. Grace was a teacher. She loved teaching and taught for many years in New Hamburg, Petersburg and Heidelberg as well as supply teaching in area schools. For all of her adult life, until she was 90, she taught music and was registered with the ORMTA. Her former school pupils and music pupils are many. She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, New Hamburg where she taught Sunday School, filled in as organist from time to time and was a member of the Ladies Guild. Grace's family invites friends and relatives to the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron St., New Hamburg, ON N3A 1K2 for visitation today (Friday) from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will take place on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2003 at 11 am at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, New Hamburg, Pastor James Keller to officiate. Interment to follow in Riverside Cemetery, New Hamburg.

    Walter J. Schaefer - By Record Correspondent - NEW HAMBURG - A native of New Hamburg, Walter John Schaefer, 39, died yesterday at Toronto General Hospital. He had been a patient in the hospital for the past three months, and had been ill for some time. An accountant, he was an employee of the Public Utilities Commission for eight years, and had also worked in Stratford. During the war, he served for four years as a navigator with the RCAF. He attended St. Peter's Lutheran Church in New Hamburg. His father, Charles Schaefer, predeceased him. Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Emma Schaefer; one brother, Lorne; three sisters, Mrs. Nicholas Klassen and Mrs. Conrad Klassen of New Hamburg and Marie Schaefer, Kitchener. The body will be at the Futher -Omand funeral Home, New Hamburg, until Saturday at 1: 30 pm. The funeral will be held at St. Peter's Lutheran Church at 2: 30 and burial will be at Riverside Cemetery. Rev. R.G. Johnston will officiate. Friends are asked to pay their respects prior to the service.

    Lorne Schaefer - by Record Staff Writer - NEW HAMBURG - Lorne Schaefer, 51, of New Hamburg died today at K-W Hospital. Born in New Hamburg, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Schaefer. He was an inspector with the department of national defence for the past 13 years. Mr. Schaefer was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church and was a former Sunday school teacher and a member of the church council. Surviving are his wife, the former Elaine Hammer; two sons, John and Thomas, at home, and Mrs. Jerry (Mary) Engelke, New Hamburg; three sisters, Mrs. Nicklas (Grace) Klassen and Mrs. Constantine (Dolores) Klassen, both of New Hamburg, and Marie Schaefer, Kitchener. The body will be at the Bruce J. Omand Funeral Home until noon Saturday when removal will be made to St. Peter's Lutheran Church for service at 2 p.m. Rev. Otto Brillinger will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside cemetery.
