Henry Shilling - Henry John (Harry) Shilling, 82, of 101 King St. West, died yesterday at K-W Hospital. Born Sept. 2, 1872, in Elmdon, England, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Shilling. He came to Canada in 1910 and was employed at Snyder's Ltd., Waterloo. He was a member of the Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans Association. Surviving are three sons, Percy and William of Kitchener and Horace of Bridgeport; four daughters, Mrs. William Checkley of Guelph and Mrs. William Weller, Mrs. Leo Sawesky and Mrs. Raymond Forsythe, all of Toronto. There are 28 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. His wife, the former Ellen Maria Williamson, and two sons, Joseph and Harry, predeceased him. The body is at the Schreiter-Sandrock Funeral Home where the funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 2 pm, Rev. Canon C.C.W. Mixer will officiate. Interment will be in Woodland Cemetery.

Percy Shilling, 67, of 97 Lorne Cres. Died today at St. Mary's Hospital after a lengthy illness. Born in England, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Harry J. Shilling, Mr. Shilling came to Kitchener in 1911 and until his retirement a year ago, had worked as a maintenance man at the Knollwood Armories. A member of Highland Road Baptist Church, he served four years during the First World War with the 118th Battalion and four years during the Second World War with the Veterans Guard. His wife, the former Edith Roberts, predeceased him, as did two brothers. Surviving are two sons, Percy and Howard of Kitchener; three daughters, Mrs. Maurille (Jean) St. Croix, Mrs. Douglas (Eva) Daly and Mrs. Walter (May) Davies, all of Kitchener; one brother, Horace of Kitchener; three sisters, Mrs. William (Nell) Chickley of Guelph, and Mrs. Leo (Ivy) Severski and Mrs. William (Edith) Weller, both of Toronto, 19 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The body will be at the Schreiter-Sandrock Funeral Home after noon Wednesday. Funeral arrangements are pending.

Ex-Fireman Dies While Fighting Fire
A fireman with the Kitchener fire department for many years, Thomas William Shilling, 62, of 115 Cameron St. N., died of a heart attack, Saturday, after rushing to fight a neighbor's fire. Mr. Shilling, who retired two years age with the rank of Captain, was working in his garden when he was called to assist a neighbor. "He was a good fireman right to the last," said Deputy Chief Bernard Finney of the Kitchener fire department. During his years with the fire department he had some close calls, like most of the firemen do from time to time. Mr. Shilling was born in London, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Henry Shilling and came to Kitchener in 1912. Reserved overseas in the First World War with the 10th Battalion railway troops after enlisting at the age of 14. Since his retirement from the fire department, Mr. Shilling had worked as a security guard with Marsland Engineering Limited. He was a member of Holy Saviour Anglican Church, the Twin City Masonic Lodge, the Waterloo chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Canadian Legion. Surviving are his wife, the former Lena Degen; three sons, William W., of Kitchener and Robert and John E., of Waterloo, a daughter, Mrs. Jacob(Lillian) Heer of Breslau, two bothers, Percy and Horace of Kitchener and eightgrandchildren. The body is at the Schreiter-Sandrock Funeral Home, where a service will be conducted at 3: 30 p.m., Wednesday, by Rev. Denton Massey. There will be a Masonic service at the Funeral Home, Tuesday, at 8 p.m. and an Order of the Eastern Star Service half an hour later. Burial will be in Memory Gardens.

During the Second World War he served overseas with the Highland Light Infantry of Canada and the Royal Canadian Regiment.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two daughters.

SHILLING, William W. "Bill" - Peacefully, passed away at K-W Health Centre of Grand River Hospital, on Wednesday, December 6, 2006, at the age of 85 years. Beloved husband for over 57 years to the late Pearl Shilling (2004). Loving father of Susan Pilkey (David) and Douglas Shilling. Cherished "Grandy" of Heather, Gwendolyn, Sandra, Melanie, Laura, Jason, Nicholas and Tiffany, as well as to seven great-grandchildren. Survived by his brother John Shilling (Audrey). Predeceased by his parents Thomas and Lena Shilling, his brother Robert Shilling and his sister Lillian Heer. Bill was a Past Master of the Twin City Masonic Lodge No. 509, a member of the Scottish Rite, Rose Croix and the Hamilton Shrine. He was a veteran of the Second World War with the Hastings and Prince Edward regiments and served overseas. Bill was a Postal Supervisor for over 35 years and was a faithful member of The Church of the Holy Saviour, Waterloo. Family will host visitation today (Saturday) from 7-9 p.m. and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home, 621 King Street West, Kitchener. Funeral Service will be held at The Church of the Holy Saviour, 33 Allen Street East, Waterloo on Monday, December 11, 2006 at 1 p.m. with The Venerable Peter J. Townshend officiating. SHILLING, Robert Kenneth "Bob" \endash Passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of this family, on Tuesday, Feb. 17, 1996, at K-W Health Centre of Grand River Hospital, age 72 years.
Robert was a faithful member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where he sang in the choir for over 40 years. A Member also of the Waterloo Family YMCA. He served in the Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War and enjoyed a lifelong career with Brewers Warehousing.
Loving husband of Ruby (née Rahn) of Waterloo; devoted and forever loved father of Laurie Lessard and her husband Daniel of Waterloo, Michael and his wife Rosemarie of Kitchener; cherished and proud grandpa of Andrew and Lindsay, David and Jonathan. Will be sadly missed by sister, Lillian Heer of Kitchener and brothers, Bill and his wife Pearl of Kitchener, John and his wife Audrey of Waterloo.
Mr. Shilling's family will receive friends at the Edward R. Good Funeral Home, 171 King St. S., Waterloo, today (Thursday) 7-9 p.m. and Friday, 2-4 and 7-9 p,m. The funeral service will take place on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, 22 Willow St., Waterloo, with Rev. Doug Kranz and Rev. Joseph Habibullah officiating. Luncheon to follow in the Church Fellowship Hall. Interment Memory Gardens Cemetery, Breslau.
