Passed away peacefully, at Fairview Mennonite Home on Thursday, September 1, 2011, at the age of 90. Beloved husband of 56 years to the late Ruth Bechtel (2008). Loving father of Louise Bechtel of Clinton, Carol Schwartz of Kitchener, Pauline Bechtel and her partner Bill Paris of Harrison Hot Springs, B.C. and the late John Bechtel (1980). Beloved grandfather of Jessie-Lee, Jael, Nathan (Anneliese), Lindsay and Jared. Great-grandfather to Dante and Damon Duval and Ezekiel Schwartz. Dear brother of Orville and Lester Bechtel. Elton was predeceased by his parents, Milton and Elizabeth Bechtel; sister Hilda, brother Roy; sisters-in-law, Alma (Lester) Bechtel, Mary (Orville) Bechtel, and Dorothy (Lester) Bechtel. Elton's family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, September 4th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., at the Henry Walser Funeral Home, 507 Frederick Street, Kitchener and on Monday, September 5th from 9: 45 - 11 a.m., at Fairview Mennonite Home, 515 Langs Dr., Cambridge. Funeral service will be held in the auditorium of Fairview Mennonite Home, at 11 a.m. on Monday, September 5th, followed by refreshments. Interment will take place at Wanner Mennonite Church Cemetery, after the reception.

Suddenly at his residence, on Saturday, July 5, 1980, John Elton Bechtel, age 27 years of Route 1, Ayr. He was a member of the Wanner Mennonite Church. Paternal grandson of Milton Bechtel of Kitchener; beloved son of Elton Bechtel and the former Ruth Snyder of Route 32, Cambridge; dear brother of Louise at home, Mrs. Mark (Carol) Schwartz of Waterloo, Pauline of St. Anne, Man. Friends may call at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home, 621 King St. W.,Kitchener, after 7 p.m. today, until noon Wednesday, when removal will be made to the Wanner Mennonite Church, Beaverdale Road, for funeral service at 3 p.m. with Rev. Herbert Schultz officiating. Interment in Wanner Mennonite cemetery.
