McCONNELL, Joan Passed away peacefully, on Thursday, July 8, 2010, at the Forest Heights Long Term Care Centre, at the age of 70. Beloved mother of Lori (Shawn) Koebel of Kitchener, Jody (Corinna) McConnell of Baden, Jason (Adrienne) McConnell of Calgary. Cherished grandmother of Julia, Sydney, Nash, Mackenzie, and Jason. Dear sister of Adele Helm, Patricia (Eugene) George, Ron (Joanne) McCormick, and Patrick (Kay) McCormick. Predeceased by parents, Hattie and Albert McCormick, sisters, Eleanor Hahn, Audrey Hagen, Francis McCormick, Kathleen McCormick and Mary McCormick (in infancy) and brothers Edward and Will McCormick (Sophie). Joan enjoyed a successful career as the National Sales Manager for a major retail chain. Joan divided her time in the last several years between her home in Arizona and her home in Waterloo. She loved her Arizona gardens where she spent countless hours building a beautiful brick courtyard and fountain, and the social atmosphere. Her youthful appearance and attitude earned her the nickname "The Kid". Joan had many passions in life. She loved to dance, play the slots, and was a shrewd poker player. Joan also loved video games and was a true Gamer in every sense of the word. She could give any teenager a run for their money. She conquered every version of Zelda like a true champion. Family and friends are invited to gather for a celebration of Joan's life on Monday, July 12, 2010 from 7 until 9 p.m. at the Westmount Funeral Chapel, 1001 Ottawa Street South, Kitchener.
