Pair Attached To Paratroops
Fred Molson, Louis Bardon Hurt in Action in Believed in Italy
Two Twin City men fighting with U.S. paratroops were listed today as casualties. They were Sgt. Fred Molson, 173 King Street West, Kitchener and Pte. Louis William Bardon, 117 Erb Street, Waterloo. Both had been in action overseas.
Molson and Bardon are the first local men to be injured while serving in this branch of the Allied services. Announcements of the casualties reached relatives here within a few hours. They were both attached to the same unit and it is believed they may have been wounded during the same engagement.
"SLIGHTLY WOUNDED"
Although the official notice in both cases came from Ottawa, there wag no indication of what theatre they may have been operating. It is known Molson was in a July raid on Kiska Island. Both are believed to have reached Italy, however.
The telegram received by Mrs. Molson said her husband was "slightly wounded." He is a son of Mr. and. Mrs. Fred Molson Sr., George Street.
This Kitchener soldier enlisted in February, 1942, and for some time was stationed as an instructor at No. 10 Training Centre. He left the local camp to transfer to the paratroops. Sent to Helena, Mont., fob preliminary training, he later was posted to Fort Ethan Ellen, Vt.
Skiing and mountain climbing were stressed in Sgt. Molson's training. He was attached to the 1st Special Service Force, U.S. Army. Before enlisting, he was employed al Dominion Electrohome.

SGT. FRED MOLSON
Wounded the fourth time since he began service with the 1st Special Service Force, Sgt. Molson wrote his wife on Aug. 28 that he was resting in a convalescent hospital in France, waiting for a leg wound to heal. A tiny piece of shrapnel, he said, had lodged in his leg, but no operation, was necessary. He said he was eager to get back to his unit.
Having played his part with the famous "Black Devils," as the commando-paratroopers are called, in the invasion of Rome, Sgt. Molson entered Southern France with the second invasion.
"We have fought, or rather marched, through many places here in France," he wrote, adding that to his surprise, his feet didn't develop a single blister.
Sgt. Molson and Pte. Louis Bardon, now a prisoner of war, were the first Twin City parachutists reported wounded. The former was first slightly wounded in December, 1943, and again between that time and March, 1944, when he was confined to hospital for the third time. His recent injury brought the total woundings to four.
He enlisted in February, 1942, and was stationed as an instructor at the former No. 10 Training Centre here before joining the Special Service Force. He was previously employed at the Dominion Electrohome.
