MADE DOUBLE ATTEMPT TO TAKE HIS OWN LIFE

Woodstock, July 16.- H. J. Davis, the well-known stock breeder of the 15th line of East Zorra, is lying at the point of death at his home as the result of two attempts to take his own life late yesterday afternoon. Mr. Davis was in the city during the morning, closing some stock purchase deals, and when he went home in the afternoon took a dose of strychine. He immediately afterwards went out to the barn, and climbing into the hay mow, swung himself out by the neck on a rope suspended from a beam. He was discovered in about a minute by his hired man, who cut him down and took him to the house. The doctors in attendance to-day said there was little hope of saving his life. It is believed that the determined attempt at self-destruction was due to temporary derangement.
