    WELLESLEY, Oct. 21 - Mrs. Catherine Knechtel. 89, died Saturday at the home of her son, Henry Knechtel at Ratzburg. She was the widow of the late Valentine Knechtel. Deceased attended St. James Lutheran church, North Easthope.

    Surviving are two sons, Henry of Ratzburg and John of North Easthope; two sisters. Mrs. John Huras and Mrs. Jacob Hoffman both of Wellesley.

    Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 o'clock at the home of Henry Knechtel followed by service at St. James' church, North Easthope. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. Rev. W. Nolting will officiate.

    Henry L. Knechtel - By Record Staff Writer - Elmira - Henry L. Knechtel, 89, of 43 King St., Elmira, died Thursday at this home after a lengthy illness. Born in North Easthope, he was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Valentine Knechtel, and farmed in the North Easthope district until he retired in 1947. He then moved to Elmira. He was a member of St. James' Lutheran church. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Mary Ann Otto, in April, 1954. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Theodore (Pearl) Hammer of Elmira; and one brother, John of North Easthope. The body will be at the Dreisinger Funeral Chapel until Saturday noon, when removal will be made at St. James' Lutheran Church for service at 3 pm, conducted by Rev. H.W. Baetz. Burial will be in St. James' Church Cemetery.

    JOHN KNECHTEL

    John Knechtel, 88, North Easthope Township, died Wednesday morning at the Newcombe rest home near New Hamburg.

    He was a native of the township, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Valentine Knechtel, and was born July 12, 1879. He was a member of Lingelbach United Church, Highway 7 and 8, east of Shakespeare.

    He is survived by his wife, the former Caroline Rupert, whom he married Oct. 15, 1901; one son, Valentine, and two daughters, Mrs. John (Adelia) Schamber, and Mrs. Gordon (Selina) Cook, all of North Easthope; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

    The funeral service was held Friday afternoon at Lingelbach United Church, North Easthope, conducted by Rev. T. E. Dahms. Burial followed in the adjoining church cemetery.

    John married Caroline Ruppert 15 Oct 1907, , Perth Co., Ontario, Canada.     On Wednesday, Oct. 11, 1995, at K-W Health Centre of Grand River Hospital, Pearl (Knechtel) Hammer, age 90 years, of Elmira. Beloved wife of the late Theodore J. Hammer. She is survived by several nieces and nephews and their families. Predeceased by her parents, Henry and Mary Ann Knechtel. Pearl was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Elmira, and was a resident of Chateau Gardens for the past number of years. Friends may call at the Dreisinger Funeral Home, Elmira, today (Friday) 7-9 p.m., where funeral service will be held in the chapel on Saturday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Richard Frey officiating, followed by interment in St. James Lutheran Cemetery.

    SCHAMBER, Adelia - Adelia Lenora Annette Schamber, 93, formerly of Tavistock and RR 1, New Hamburg, passed away, at Nithview Home, New Hamburg, with family by her side, on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2001. She was born at Preston (Cambridge) on August 8, 1908, a daughter of the late John Knechtel and the former Caroline Ruppert. Adelia was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, New Hamburg and was a former member of the New Hamburg Horticultural Society. She married John Robert Schamber in North Easthope township on June 10, 1931. He predeceased her on March 21, 1987. Beloved mother of Clarence J. Schamber and Marlene of RR 1, New Hamburg, Carolyn Fischer of RR 1, Elora; lovingly remembered by grandsons, Gerald Fischer and Debbie, Brad Fischer and Crystal, all of Kitchener and great-grandchildren, Cameron, Kaycee and Keelan and Marlene's children, Darren Babych, Crystal Lilbourne and Greg. She was predeceased by her brother, Valentine Knechtel and by her sister, Selina Cook. Relatives and friends will be received in the Francis Funeral Home, 77 Woodstock St. N., Tavistock on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. the funeral service will be held in Trinity Lutheran Church, New Hamburg on Monday, Nov. 19, 2001 at 2 p.m., Pastor Andre Lavergne will officiate. Interment in Riverside Cemetery, New Hamburg. As expressions of sympathy, donations to a charity of one's own choice would be appreciated and may be made through the funeral home by calling 655-2431.
