    Schchmetzer - Linwood on June 26th, Geo. Schmetzer, aged 73 years and 26 days.

    Deceased was one of the oldest residents of the district of Linwood where he was a successful farmer. He was well known and highly respected and although a number of years subject to disease, managed to keep about active in the discharge of his duties until some months ago He had just completed a comfortable residence in which he hoped to spend his last years after retiring from the farm. The funeral took place at Linwood, Tuesday where a large number of relatives friends and neighbors had gathered to pay their last respect to the departed. Rev. R. Eden, pastor the Lutheran church of which deceased had been a staunch member, preached the funeral sermon. The departed leaves to mourn his loss, a widow, 3 sons and 4 daughters viz: Jacob M., John and Henry Schmetzer and Mrs. A. Shirk, Mrs. C. Wilker of Listowel, Mrs. J Dubrick of Elmira and Mrs W.F.C. of Washington Territory, U. S. A.

    Death Follows a Ten-Day Illness

    Mrs. Alvin Sherk Succumbs at Home Here; Funeral Held on Wednesday

    Following an illness of ten days' duration. Mrs. Alvin Sherk passed away at her home in Elmira, Monday afternoon. Although she had been suffering from heart trouble for for some years, she was acutely ill only a few days, and her death was quiet unexpected by her family and friends.

    The late Mrs. Sherk who before her marriage was Margaret Barbara Schmetzer was born near Linwood. in Wellesley Township on February 8 1877 and there passed her early life. She was married 1903 to Alvin E. Sherk of Kitchener. They lived for about nine year at Linwood and then moved to Elmira where they have since resided, Mrs. Sherk being a faithful member of St. Paul's Lutheran church.

    She is survived by her husband and five children: Mary, Lucy, Laura and Margaret, of Elmira and George of Toronto. There are also three, brothers and three sisters, namely, Jacob, Elmira; John. Linwood; Henry, Kitchener; Mrs. W. Rolling, Alma; Mrs. John Dubrick. Kitchener, and Mrs. C. Wilker, of Linwood

    The funeral way held on Wednesday afternoon from her late residence on Centre street to St. Paul's Lutheran church Rev. A. Gallmeier conducted the services. Interment took place In the Union cemetery, the pallbearers being Charles Sherk, Henry Muth, Robert Simmons, C. N. Kilrick, Fred Siegner and Otter Schmidt.

    MRS. ELIZABETH HOLLING

    Mrs. Elizabeth Holling, 76, of Elmira died Thursday last at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Elmer Fink, 7 Centre St, after a long illness.

    Born in Wellesley June 22, 1879, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Schmetzer. She attended St. Paul's Lutheran Church and was a member of the Ladies Aid.

    Surviving are a son Orval of Elmira, two daughters, Mrs. William (Rosetta) Hangartner, and Mrs. Elmer (Frieda) Fink of Elmira; a sister, Mrs. Conrad Wilker of Linwood, a brother, John of Linwood; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Her husband William; two sisters and two brothers predeceased her.

    The funeral will be conducted at St. Pau's Church Saturday at 2:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Elmira Cemetery with Rev. Frank Malinksky officiating.
    The body rested at the Dreisinger Funeral Parlor until Saturday noon when removal was made to the church.

    MRS. JOHN DUBRICK

    Mrs. John M. Dubrick, 70, of 8 Grenville Ave., Kitchener, died Sunday at the K-W Hospital, after a long illness. She was born in Linwood. She married Mr. Dubrick in 1905 at Linwood. She was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church. Surviving are six sons, Carl, John, Oscar, William and Kenneth, all of Kitchener and Percy of Vancouver; four daughters, Mrs. Gilbert (Rose) Stead, Mrs. Harold (Elsie) Cook, Mrs. Edward (Violet) Halley and Mrs. Laverne (Cora) Gross, all of Kitchener; two brothers, John Schmetzer of Linwood and Henry of Kitchener; two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Holling of Elmira and Mrs. Conrad Wilker of Linwood; 25 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A daughter Emma predeceased her. The body was at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home where the funeral was held Tuesday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Dr. John Schmieder officiating. Burial was at Memory Gardens, near Breslau.

    Born near Linwood, she was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Holling.

    She was a member of Zion Evangelical United Brethren Church, Elmira.

    Her first husband, William Kuhl, died in 1935. She remarried in 1937.

    Surviving besides her husband are four sons, Edward, Clarence and Robert, all of Elmira, and William Jr., of Toronto; four daughters, Mrs. Earl (Kathleen) Stever of Heidelberg, Mrs. Earl (Helen) Brodrecht of Kitchener, Mrs. Stuart (Betty) Luckhardt of RR 4, Wiarton and Mrs. Camille (Jean) Melanson of Montreal; one sister, Mrs. Elmer Flink of Elmira; one brother, Orville of Elmira, and 10 grandchildren.

    The body rested at the Dreisinger Funeral Home, Elmira, until noon Friday when removal was made to Zion EUB Church for the funeral service at 2 pm conducted by Rev. M. E. Reuber.

    Burial was in Elmira cemetery.

    HAROLD DAVID (PETE) SCHMETZER 1923 - 2008 Pete died unexpectedly, on Wednesday, August 13, 2008, at A.R. Goudie Eventide Home in Kitchener, in his 85th year. Loving husband of Luella (Lue) nee Peppler for 54 years. Father of Corinne and Byron Redmond, Joan and Paul Davidson, Toni and Kelly Veiledal, and Karen and Eugene Boucher. Grandfather to Kevin, Adam, Sarah, Heather, Jesse, Mitchell, Shane, Megan, and Dana. Survived by sister-in-law, Gertrude Schmetzer and seven nieces. Predeceased by his parents, Henry and Emelia (Axt) Schmetzer; brother, Arthur; sister, Hazel Heldman and niece, Elizabeth. Pete proudly served his country during the Second World War with the Essex Scottish Regiment and continued to serve with the Scots Fusiliers and the Highland Fusiliers. He was a member of the Officers' Mess of the Royal Highland Fusiliers of Canada. Pete was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for over 60 years and a charter member of the K-W Khaki Club. He was a longtime employee of Marsland Engineering and following retirement worked as an Officer in the district court of Waterloo County. Cremation has taken place. A memorial visitation will be held at the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home , 171 King St. S., Waterloo, on Saturday, August 16 (today) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A memorial service to celebrate Pete's life will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church, 22 Willow St., Waterloo on Sunday, August 17 at 2 p.m., followed by a reception at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 530, Waterloo, 19 Regina St. N., Waterloo. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the K-W Poppy Fund or St. John's Lutheran Church would be appreciated by the family as expressions of sympathy. A special thank you is extended to the staff of A.R. Goudie Eventide Home for their compassionate care. In living memory of Pete, a donation will be made to the Trees for Learning Program by the funeral home.
