    Notes:

    Walter Millar

A Walter Millar appeared in New Dundee records and he might have been an adopted son of John and Jane's. He was born around 1851 in New Dundee and on his marriage registration his parents were listed as John and Janet Millar." Since there were not many Millars in New Dundee at this time, he was most likely their adopted son. Walter is not mentioned in John's will in 1871. A year later, Walter left New Dundee and moved to Wiarton. According to Walter's obituary in the Wiarton newspaper, he left New Dundee when he turned 21 and moved to Wiarton to venture into the wilds of the Bruce Peninsula. Walter took with him a load of merchandise by team and then he went around to what is now Wiarton by sailboat.'" John Millar had previously supplied merchandise like this to settlers in Waterloo County. A cousin, David Gourlay Millar, also moved to Wiarton at this time.

In the 1871 New Dundee census, Walter resided with a Janet Millar, 37, James Millar, 30, and James' wife, Ellen, 21, and their daughter, Ellen, 3 1/2 months. These birthdates coincide with Walter's possible siblings." Walter married Sarah Markham in May, 1875 in Berlin and they moved to Wiarton where they had two children: James Walter Millar and Alfred Millar.

From the book "William Scott and his Extended Family" written by Marie Voisin

Walter married Sarah Ann Markham 19 May 1875, Kitchener, Waterloo Region, Ontario, Canada. Sarah (daughter of James Markham and Sarah Ann "Sally" Pipe) was born 30 May 1849, Waterloo Twp., Waterloo Region, Ontario, Canada; died 13 Dec 1900, Wiarton, Amabel Twp., Bruce Co., Ontario, Canada; was buried , Bayview Cemetery, Wiarton, Bruce County, Ontario, Canada.
