    Sherk, Melvin - Passed away at the Cambridge Memorial Hospital, on Thursday, Sept. 17, 1981, Melvin Sherk, of Golden Years Nursing Home, Cambridge, formerly of Kitchener and Ayr, in his 78th year. Beloved husband of the late Mary Elizabeth Brown, dear father of Margaret (Mrs. William Makins) of Bayfield, Elizabeth (Mrs. John Kostuik) of Toronto, Esther (Mrs. Allen Mitchell) of Ayr. Douglas, Raymond, William and James, all of Ayr, dear brother of Weston of RR 4, Cambridge, Walter of London, Ont. and Leon of Oregon, Mamie (Mrs. Wilfred McDonald) of Kitchener, Irene (Mrs. James Main) of Washington, Ont. and Mrs. Vernetta Wildfong of London, Ont. Sixteen grandchildren and six great-grandchildren also survive. Mr. Sherk was predeceased by one son. Resting at Coutts & Son Funeral Home, 96 St. Andrew St., Cambridge, where the family will receive friends today, from 2-4 and 7-9. Funeral services will be held from the funeral home chapel on Saturday, Sept. 19, at 2: 30 p.m. Interment Ayr cemetery.

    MAIN, Irene (nee Sherk) - Passed away, on Sunday February 25, 2007 at the St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener. Irene Main of RR4 Bright in her 93rd year. Beloved wife of the late James E. Main who predeceased her December 31, 1998. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her brothers Leon, Melvin, Walter, Weston and sisters Vernette and Mamie. Irene was a life member of the First Baptist Church, New Dundee and of the Women's Missionary Society. Relatives and friends may call at the Glendinning Funeral Home, 40 William St., Plattsville on Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be conducted from the Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday February 28, 2007 at 2 p.m. Spring Interment in Chesterfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to First Baptist Church, New Dundee (cheques accepted) would be appreciated by the family.

    Douglas Weston Sherk

    Douglas Weston Sherk of Bute Street, Ayr passed away at St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener on Tuesday, September 1st. He was in his 62nd year. Born in Blenheim Township, he was a son of the late Melvin Sherk and Mary Elizabeth Brown. A love of planes led him to get his pilot's licence and as a young man he flew for companies in Canada's North-west. Later he came back to his home town of Ayr where he joined other family members in the operation of Sherk Sales and Service, a Chrysler and Case dealership and garage. When the garage closed in 1982, Doug joined the staff at Pinder Fleet, a Kitchener truck dealership. He was a 20 year director and past president of the Waterloo-Wellington Flying Club; a director of the Ayr Centennials Jr. hockey club; and member of Canadian Pork Barbecuing organizing committee. Surviving are his wife, the former Phyllis Mackie; a son Tom of Roseville; a daughter Laurel and her husband Jeff Bhagar of Toronto; brothers Raymond (Tyke), William and James, all of Ayr; sisters Mrs. William (Margaret) Makins of Bayfield, Mrs. John (Elizabeth) Kostiuk of Baltimore, Md., and Esther Mitchell of Ayr. Predeceased by a twin brother David William. Rested at the Ayr Chapel of the Wm. Kipp Funeral Home where funeral service was conducted on Friday by Rev. James Young of Knox United Church, Ayr. Cremation. Interment Ayr Cemetery.

    Raymond (Tyke) Sherk - Raymond Harvey (Tyke) Sherk of Ayr, passed away at Willett Hospital, Paris, on Tuesday, September 25th, 2001. He was in his 69th year. Born in Galt, he was a son of the late Melvin Sherk and Mary Elizabeth Brown. He grew up on the Sherk farm, 11th Concession of Blenheim, west of Greenfield. In his younger years, Tyke was a heavy equipment operator and worked on several pipeline projects in Ontario and Western Canada. He subsequently joined the family business, Sherk Sales and Service, and sold Case and David Brown farm equipment. Later, prior to retiring, he drove truck for Drumbo Transport and J. and R. Hall in Ayr. An avid antique tractor enthusiast, Tyke was an executive member of Historical Shows Association, Central Ontario, which sponsors the yearly historical show in Paris. He was a former Ayr councillor. Dear husband of Joan McAllister; beloved father of Sandra Sherk of Preston, Janice and Jim Jackson of Ayr, Barbara and Gordon Black of Paris; loved grandfather of Rachel and Aiden; dear brother of Margaret and Bill Makins of Bayfield, Jim and Gail Sherk of Ayr, Liz and John Kostuik of Baltimore, Esther Mitchell of Paris and brother-in-law of Phyllis Sherk of Ayr; also survived by many nieces and nephews.     Dear husband of Joan McAllister; beloved father of Sandra Sherk of Preston, Janice and Jim Jackson of Ayr, Barbara and Gordon Black of Paris; loved grandfather of Rachel and Aiden; dear brother of Margaret and Bill Makins of Bayfield, Jim and Gail Sherk of Ayr, Liz and John Kostuik of Baltimore, Esther Mitchell of Paris and brother-in-law of Phyllis Sherk of Ayr. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
    Predeceased by brothers, Doug, Bill and by infant brother, David William.
    Tyke was a member of the Paris Historical Society, a former Ayr Councillor, a former employee of Drumbo Transport and J&R Transport and an avid antique tractor enthusiast.

    Donald Sherk, 14-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Weston Sherk, Greenfield Road, lost his right arm below the elbow in an unfortunate haying accident on Saturday morning. He was working alone, mowing in a field some distance from the house. Because it was warm day he began to remove his shirt, a loose end of which was caught in the power takeoff coupling pulling his arm into the rapidly revolving coupling

    MITCHELL, Tim - Suddenly, at Cambridge Memorial Hospital, on Sunday, May 14, 2006, of Blair and formerly of Ayr, in his 39th year. Dear dad to Brooke and Darlene of Baffin Island. Beloved son to Esther (nee Sherk) and the late Allen (1993). Loved brother to Scott (Lisa) and Greg. Cherished uncle to Daniel, Carter and Bailey. Also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. Friends will be received at the Ayr Chapel, Wm. Kipp Funeral Home, 183 Northumberland St., Ayr, on Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Cremation to follow.
