MRS. LEVI COOK

The death of Mrs. Levi Cook, 66, occurred at her home in North Easthope early yesterday morning, after an affliction of many years standing.

Mrs. Cook was born in Ellice Township on March 14, 1868, a daughter of the late Eckert and Margaret Diehl. She was married in 1890 at Stratford to Levi Cook, who with seven children survives. The children are George Cook, Pigeon, Mich.; William, North Easthope; Cossie, North Easthope; Elton, Kitchener; Mrs. Seibert (Beatrice) Schneider, Lisbon; Mrs. Reinhardt (Edna) Hoerle, Philipsburg; Gordon, at home. One daughter predeceased her 1 ½ years ago. There are 19 grandchildren.

The following sisters also survive; Mrs. John Pfaff, Waterloo; Mrs. M.J. Helm, Stratford; Mrs. Charles Woodward, Toronto; Mrs. William Hogg, Toronto.

The funeral will be held at 1:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon from the home in North Easthope to St. James Lutheran Church, North Easthope, with interment in the adjoining cemetery. Rev. John Hamester will officiate

HOERLE, Edna - Passed away, on Sunday, August 13, 2006 at her residence People Care Centre, Tavistock. Edna was formerly of RR 2 Baden. She was born 99 years ago in North Easthope Township and was the daughter of the late Levi and Christina (Diehl) Cook. Edna was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Philipsburg. Beloved wife of the late Reinhart Hoerle who predeceased her September 9, 1986. Also remembered by her sisters-in-law, Verna Wegford and Minnie Hoffman, both of New Hamburg, Norma Cook of Milverton and several nieces and nephews. Edna was predeceased by her brothers, George, William, Cossie, Elton, Gordon and sisters, Bertha Faulhafer and Beatrice Schneider. Family and friends may call at the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 291 Huron St., New Hamburg today (Monday) from 5-8 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 15, 2006 at 2 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Philipsburg with Pastor Richard Brown officiating. Interment to follow in the church cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to Zion Lutheran Church or the Canadian Cancer Society.

Merry Cake

2 eggs
1 cup brown sugar
3/4 cup butter
1 cup sweet whole milk
1/2 lb. dates
15 c. worth of shelled walnuts
15 c. worth of coconut
1 teaspoon of baking powder
1 teaspoon of baking soda
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups of flour

Cream butter and sugar, then add beaten eggs. Sift flour, baking powder and baking soda. Add alternately with milk and beat well. Add dates, coconut and walnuts and vanilla.

He was born in North Easthope Township, 92 years ago. Son of the late Levi Cook and the late Christina Diehl. He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in North Easthope and was an avid hunter. Gordon was a painter and decorator retiring in 1978. Beloved husband of Norma (Stever) Cook of Milverton; dear father of George and his wife Carol Cook of New Hamburg, Ken and his wife Shirley Cook of Dorchester and Shirley and her husband Roy Alcock of Port Elgin. Dear brother of Edna Hoerle of Tavistock. Lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Jim and Cossandra, Kelly and Grant, Shane and Kyle, and Connie and Jason. Great-grandpa of Samson.
