    Funeral of Louis Foerster.

    The funeral of the late Louis Foerster, formerly of Heidelberg, who died at Ayton, was held there recently. Mr. Foerster was about 74 years of age. Survivors include six sisters, Rose Foerster of Kitchener, Mrs. Jacob Ziegler, Mrs. Louis Rank, Mrs. Wm. Hackbart and Mrs. Wm. Hass of Heidelberg, and Mrs. A. Wettlaufer of Tavistock, and one brother, Edward, of Detroit. One brother, William, who resided in Waterloo, predeceased him.

    Heidelberg - An aged resident of Heidelberg, Mrs. Louis Rank, 78, passed away early Monday morning at her home, after a long illness. The funeral will take place at 2 p.m. Thursday from the residence to St. Peter's Lutheran Church for service. Rev. K. Knauff will officiate. Interment in the Heidelberg cemetery.

    The late Mrs. Rank, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Foerster, was born near Heidelberg, Dec. 28, 1860. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Andrew Lips, Bamberg, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, five sisters, Mrs. Jeanette Ziegler, Mrs. Wm. Hass and Mrs. Emiline Hackbart, Heidelberg, Mrs. Adam Wettlaufer, Tavistock, and Miss Rose Foerster, Kitchener. One son predeceased her.

    HEIDELBERG, Jan. 1. - Mrs. Jacob M. Ziegler, 79, formerly Miss Jeannettle Foerster, died Dec. 31 at her late home in Heidelberg after a brief illness. She was the widow of the late Jacob M. Ziegler, who predeceased her nine years ago. She was born Nov. 2, 1864, In Wellesley Township, the daughter of the late Mr and Mrs. Andrew Foerster. Mrs. Ziegler was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Heidelberg.

    Hhe is survived by two sons, Harry and Herman of Heidelberg: four daughters, Mrs. Edward Hartung. Mrs Lydia Ronder, Mrs. William J. Battler and Miss Elsie Ziegler, all of Heidelberg, 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchlidren. A daughter, Annie, predeceased her. Also surviving are one brother, Edward Forester of Detroit, and three sisters, Mrs. William Haas and Miss Rose Foerster of Kitchener and Mr. Elizabeth Wettlaufer of Tavistock.

    Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:30 o'clock from her late residence to St. Peter's Lutheran Church at 3 o'clock. Rev. Henry Nuhn, pastor of the church, will officiate. Interment will be made in the Heidelberg Lutheran Cemetery. Remains are resting at her late residence.

    Mrs. Emmeline Hackbart, 69, of near Heidelberg, widow of the late William Hackbart, passed away at St. Mary's hospital on Tuesday, July 9, after a short illness. Born near Heidelberg, deceased had lived there all her life. She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran church, Heidelberg.

    Surviving are one son, William of Hamilton, two daughters, Ida of Hamilton and Elizabeth, Mrs. William Quehl, RR 1, Bamberg, and two grandchildren. One son Herman predeceased her three years ago. One brother, Edward Foerster of Detroit, and four sisters, Miss Rose Foerster, Kitchener, Mrs. Jacob Zeigler of Heidelberg, Mrs. Adam Wettlaufer of Sebastapol and Mrs. William Hass of near Heidelberg, also survive.

    The funeral will take place this afternoon (Thursday) from the Letter-Dreisinger Funeral Home, Waterloo, at two o'clock and thence to Heidelberg Lutheran Church for service at 2:30 o'clock. Interment will be made in Heidelberg Lutheran Cemetery, Rev. Karl Knauff will officiate.

    Linwood Farmer Killed by Lightning

    Valentine Foerster, a farmer living near Linwood, was instantly killed by lightning during the thunderstorm on Monday evening. He had gone to the barn shortly before seven o'clock to feed the stock and had just entered the first stall when a bolt of lightning came in a nearby window, killing Mr. Foerster and a brood mare, then jumping two stalls, killed a colt in the fourth stall and left the barn shattering a door. The barn was not otherwise damaged except the destruction of the window panes, through which the lightning entered.

    Mrs. Foerster accompanied her husband to the barn, but fearing the severity of the lightning had returned to the house.

    The deceased was a well-known resident of the district. He was about 45 years of age and was born near St. Clements, a son of the late Andrew Foerster. Besides his wife he survived by a brother, William, of Waterloo, and a sister, Mrs. Rank, of Kitchener.

    TAVISTOCK, July 8. Following a critical illness, Mrs. George Neeb, 61, died at her home here early this morning. She had been in ill health for four years. The former Bertha Foerster, Mrs. Neeb was born in Heidelberg, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Foerster. Following her marriage to George Neeb, Sept. 20, 1903, she took up residence in North East hope, moving to Tavistock four years ago. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church at Sebastopol and a member of the Ladies' Aid of the church. Mr. Neeb predeceased her in 1935.


    Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Clarence C. (Alma) Waltlaufer, Tavistock; Mrs. Willlam (Georgina) Appel, Kitchener; one son, Howard, North Easthope; two sisters, Mrs. Henry J. Neeb, Tavistock, Mrs. Walter Vogt, Bouth Easthope and six grandchildren. One son predecessed her some years ago,

    The remains are resting at the residence, Woodstock St. N, Tavistock, where a private funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 11, at 2 o'clock, followed by public services at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Hebastopol. Rev. O. J. Stockmann will conduct the services. Interment will be made in the adjoining cemetery. 1944

    At the Golden Years Nursing Home, Cambridge (Preston), on Wednesday, July 21, 1976, after a lengthy illness, Martha Katherine Ziegler, a resident of Heidelberg for many years, aged 92 years.

    Mrs. Hartung was born in Heidelberg, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Ziegler and a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Heidelburg.

    She was predeceased by her husband, Edward, in 1944, a brother, Harry Ziegler, three sisters, Mrs. Clara Settler, Mrs. Lydia Roeder and Elsie Ziegler. Surviving are a daughter Hilda (Mrs. Floyd Goodwin) of Route 1, Waterloo; three sons, Harvey of Kitchener, Albert of Route 3, Wellesley, and Donald of Waterloo. A brother, Herman Ziegler of Heidelberg, 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren also survive.

    Friends may call at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home, 621 King St. W., Kitchener, after 7 p.m tonight until noon on Sunday when removal will be made to St. James Lutheran Church, Erbsville, for the service at 2 p.m. with Rev. Frank Manz officiating. Interment in St. Peter's Lutheran cemetery, Heidelberg. Donations to the building fund of St. Peter's Lutheran Church may be made as expressions of sympathy.

    HEIDELBERG - Harry L. Ziegler, 55, of Heidelberg, died Monday at K-W Hospital after a brief illness.

    Born in Wellesley township March 31, 1900, he farmed in the Heidelberg area for many years and was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Heidelberg. He was a church council man for six years.

    Mr. Ziegler was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Ziegler. He married the former Viola Braendle, who survives, in Kitchener on May 26, 1926.

    Also surviving are a son, Floyd J., a daughter, Marlene, a brother. Herman, all of Heidelberg and fhree sisters, Mrs. Martha Hartung of Waterloo. Mrs. Lydia Roeder and Mrs. Witiam Satter, both of Heidelberg.

    Two grandchildren also survive. He was predeacesed by two sisters.

    The funeral will take place at St. Peter's Lutheran Church here Friday at 3 p.m. with Rev. A. W. Lotz of Kitchener officiating. In. terment will be at Heidelberg Lutheran Cemetery

    The body is at the Ratz-Bechtel Funeral Home until it a.m., Friday. when removal will be made to the church in Heidelberg

    Heavy highway traffic on West ern Ontario highways at the week end brought as its toll one death and injury to 24 persons, two of whom may day.

    Herman Hackbart, R.R. 1, Waterloo, injured on Saturday night when his motorcycle struck a car, died in the Kitchener-Waterloo Hospital on Sunday morning.

    Fatally Injured.

    Herman Hackbart, R.R. No. 1,
    Waterloo. 25 years of age, was fatally injured at St. Clements Saturday night when the motor cycle he was riding struck a parked car. The car was owned by Peter Kuntz of St. Clements.

    Hackbart was the son of the late William Hackbart and Mrs. Hackbart of near Heidelberg.

    The car had stalled at the eastern end of St. Clements and had been pushed from the highway, not altogether off the pavement. Hackbart was leading St. Clements to proceed to Heidelberg. His motorcycle hit the rear of the car and he was thrown to the north side of the road.

    One leg below the knee, was crushed and the cyclist also suffered a fractured skull. The accident occurred at 10.40. Hackbart was admitted to the Kitchener Waterloo Hospital at 11.15 and died about 3 o'clock Sunday morning. He suffered heavy loss of blood and suffered heavy loss of blood and shock.

    25-Year-Old Herman Hack bart on Way Home Saturday Night

    CAR DRIVER CHARGED

    Stalled Automobile Had Been Pushed Aside But Was Still on Road

    Herman Hackbart, R.R. No. 1 Wat erloo, 25 years of age, was fatally in Jured Saturday night when the motorcycle he was riding crashed into a car at the eastern end of St. Clements. The car was stopped at the time but was not quite off the highway. Hackbart was thrown about 15 feet to the northerly side of the pave ment. One leg was horribly mangled below the knee and he also sustained a fracture of the skull. He died at Kitchener-Waterloo Hospital at 3 a'clock Sunday morning, having suffered heavy loss of blood and shock.

    Going Home


    The accident occurred about 10.40 when Hackbart, who resides about half way between St. Clements and Heidelberg, was leaving St. Clements for his home. The car, owned by Peter Kuntz of St. Clements, had stalled on the highway, it was said, and while it had been shoved to the right shoulder of the road, the left side was a foot or two on the pavement. Hackbert struck the rear of the machine. Kents and Hubert Kieswetter, also of St. Clements, were seated in the auto at the time of the impact. Reports are said to conflict as to whether or not the lights of the car were on.

    Two Charges Laid

    Dr. P. M. Robinson of St. Jacobs was called and, with Provincial Constable A. R. Clarke, attended Hackbart, the constable putting the in hurt leg in splints. He was taken to the Kitchener-Waterloo Hospital, being admitted at 11.25, where he was attended by Dr. A. L. Campbell. Police said Kuntz is charged with being drunk in charge of a car and driving without a licence. The motorcycle was damaged al most beyond repair, There was slight damage to the rear of the car, an old model.

    Inquest Arranged

    Crown Attorney W. P. Clemen said today the inquest had been tentatively set for Sept. 8 at Kitchener.

    Hackbart, who attended St. Peter's Lutheran church in Heidelberg. is survived by his mother, Mrs. William Hackbart Sr., two sisters, Mrs. William Quehl of Bamberg, Ida at home, and one brother, William Jr., at home.

    The funeral will be held tomorrow at 2 o'clock from the home where private service will be held, thence to St. Peter's Lutheran church. Heidelberg, for public service at 2.30. Interment will take place at Heidelberg cemetery.

    A memorial service will be held at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, 248 High land Rd., Kitchener on Thursday, June 8, 2000 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Bill Shafer officiating. Cremation has taken place.

    Norene passed away peacefully at Fairview Mennonite Home, Cambridge, on Saturday morning, April 16, 2022, at the age of 97. Beloved mother of Dianne White and her husband Donald. Norene was predeceased by her daughter Heather Armstrong in 1995 and her husband Edwin Schneider in 1996. She was also predeceased by her parents, Louise (Reibling) and Edward Rank, her brother Loren Rank, her sister Merriel Margetts Evans, her brother-in-law Alfred Margetts, her nephew Claire Margetts, her parents-in-law Lydia (Berg) and Jacob Schneider, and her sisters-in-law Frieda Littleford, Eileen Schneider, Ella Schweitzer, and Laura Chattel. She will be sadly missed by her niece, Yvonne Horne, and family. At Fairview Mennonite Home, where Norene has lived for the past 6 years, the staff enjoyed her gentle nature, her funny sense of humour and her positive attitude. Thank-you to the wonderful staff at Fairview, especially in the Hespeler unit, who took such excellent care of her. Norene's family will receive friends and relatives at Lounsbury Funeral Home, 1766 Franklin Blvd., Cambridge on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, from 11 a.m. - 12 noon.     WELLESLEY After being in ill health for several months, Howard Quehl, 32, of Wellesley, died suddenly last night at his home on the Bamberg road. Born Feb. 27, 1921, he was the son of Mrs. Eliza: beth Quehl and the late William Quehl. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Wellesley.

    One brother, Norbert, at home, survives, besides his mother.

    Private funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the home with public services at 2:30 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Rev. H. Binhammer and Rev. A. W. Lotz will officiate and burial will be in St. Paul's cemetery. The body is at the Futher Funeral Home until Sunday at 1 p.m. when it will be taken to the residence.

Norbert farmed in Wellesley Township most of his life, until retiring to the village of Wellesley in 1978.
